Just had to post this. She's so adorable! xD

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e02IJ2RKENo

omg i love her~
"mike check 1 2 1 2!" definitely unexpected. XD

where was this video originally posted? does she have a US blog or something? or was this on her myspace?

although she's working with a lot of great producers for this album, i want her to work with darkchild again. he produced "time limit" on her album distance, and that song was FIRE, seriously. if she has r&b like that on her new album, i'll be terribly happy.

edit: jimmy jam and terry lewis too! they produced "addicted to you", and that song was great as well. happy.gif

That's a really interesting interview. I agree about the makeup artist thing... He had no idea what to do with Hikki's face during Exodus. lol
Aaaahhh, can't wait for her new video. biggrin.gif
Still need more promo. ;-;

^Haha...yeah..The red lipstick made her look weird.
Im excited about the new video too! From what she said, it sounds like it's gonna be great! biggrin.gif

Do we have official cover art for her upcoming album or are we to expect this abomination as the official cover art:

Bethany
She's got such great personality.

Haha...she even admitted that "Come Back To Me" is too mainstream.

I hope her all the best of luck.

that is the official cover art. ;___;
it is terrible. looks like it was made in 2 minutes. sigh.

at least utada looks pretty (as usual) on the cover?
*trying hard to find the good in the awful cover*
keeptryin'
I think it will be different since her upcoming album is called This is the One.
i really hope so.
amydien
I just noticed....in her previous album cover arts, it's always her face only (except for exodus). They barely do half-body or full-body shots.
Im not complaining though because she's got a beautiful face, but Im just saying.... wink.gif

yeah, its going to be different, thats just a promo picture
official cover should be released late late february or early march

....atleast thats what i heard off U.blog tongue.gif
*hachiko*
thats the official cover art for the come back to me single (digital??)
the this is the one album cover hasn't been released yet
but given the recent trend of "photoshop" and even "paint" covers
i wouldn't be surprised if it was similar to this....

Oh wow. So that is the album cover. I thiught it was going to be that one orange placeholder. Automatic Part II does sound interesting.Automatic has always been one of my favorites.

sigh ): am also disappointed with the cover. anything... anything but that please ): I love Utada too much for that. ):

Utada fighting!! I hope she starts playing around my area as well ):
semi-fly
I guess you can't expect too much from the cover art department almost all of her albums have had her on the cover with simplistic text art. My problem is it just looks really cheap. Would creativity have killed their budget?
JING-JING

at least her new profile pic looks awesome :]

WOW. can i say upsetting.
way to just change the font [the font is ugly]. there are better fonts out there.
^ the new profile picture is a lot better than the cover though.

edit. anyone know if her song started playing on the radios?
NotFromThisPlanet
automatic ii... very intriguing. it does disappoint me that could be the real album cover, but hey maybe thats what she wants.
shufflez
someone recorded her being played over the radio :]
it's the remixed version though...

HA this girl went to my high school...she was a senior when I was a freshman. She was like the Britney Spears of Japan at the time, only not an insane overly-sexed-up robot who actually had musical talent. Oh man, "First Love". Hahaha.

What do you do when you’re a J-pop superstar in Japan, and a native English speaker, but have failed to take off with your first U.S. release?

Try again, of course. Japanese phenomenon Utada will release her new English-language record, “This Is The One,” March 24 on Island Def Jam, with all parties predicting greater success the second time around. Her first English-language record, 2004’s “Exodus,” peaked at No. 160 on the Billboard 200, selling 55,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

“My first English album was a very experimental, mad-scientist-in-a-laboratory kind of album,” Utada says. “It was a bit of a mess on my side as well as on the record company’s side. I didn’t know how to [express] myself to the public.”

This time, Island Def Jam Music Group president/COO Steve Bartels says the label is “extremely committed to breaking Utada in the United States.” Kimitaka Kato, president of Universal International in Japan, says, “Utada’s talent has been recognized by [IDJMG chairman] L.A. Reid, which led to this launch. We believe that the moment has come for the world to embrace Utada as a true global superstar.”

She’s already achieved that status in Japan, despite being born and raised in the States, until she was 14. Her 1999 debut album, “First Love” (Toshiba EMI), is the best-selling album in Japanese history, selling more than 7.5 million copies, according to SoundScan Japan. All but one of her subsequent six releases have moved more than 1 million copies.

Managed by her father, Teruzane Utada, on both sides of the Pacific, her star status at home is such that she has separate deals for her Japanese repertoire — which appears on EMI under her full name, Utada Hikaru –– and English language releases, which come out through Universal under the name Utada. “Exodus” has sold more than 1 million copies in Japan, and “This Is The One” is due there March 14. But Utada says she remains committed to Japanese repertoire and is already working on her next Japanese album.

As for “This Is The One,” she says it’s “an album made for the purpose of [being] mainstream,” having enlisted top songwriter/producers with U.S. track records and strong ties to IDJ, including the-Dream, Stargate and Tricky Stewart.

“For this project, Utada wanted to work with some of the hottest producers on the charts right now,” Bartels says, “but more importantly they wanted to work with her. The-Dream, Tricky Stewart, Stargate and many others are big fans of hers, and all of us know what the U.S. and Europe are soon to find out — Utada is a star.”

Bartels says Utada’s American “sensibilities and sound” set her apart from other Japanese artists seeking stateside success, noting early press supports from Nylon, the New York Times and Vibe. A slot is also booked on CBS’ “The Early Show,” with more TV appearances to be scheduled.

Utada had her longtime hair and makeup artists fly in from Japan for key U.S. promo work after feeling her image wasn’t presented correctly in the States on “Exodus.” The artist says she’s feeling more confident about how she’s perceived this time around.

“I feel very comfortable about all the promotional work I’ve been doing,” she says. “probably because there is less of this hype about a Japanese pop star making a breakthrough that I struggled with last time.”

thanks for the news lisaaa. good to hear (:
Hikkifanatic
When they say working on her next japanese album it means she's working on more japanese songs since Singles are released b4 albums in japan
semi-fly
While it may be a little harsh to say this, but couldn't someone interpret her actively working on a new Japanese album to be that she has no faith in her new English language album? Generally you would actively promote your current work, might I say something that hasn't been released or been given wide acclaim as of yet, and not start working on something new for some time.
sheart
^ That's exactly what i've said about BoA and Se7en in the past so to me it's not harsh.

Then again, Utada can work on a song and wait a long time to release it, kind of like how she released singles waaaay before she released Ultra Blue. (I mean, she released Colors in 03 and that was on Ultra Blue in 06). Or like how she recorded the demo of "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" in Dec 07 for This is The One.

Since she actively works on her music (not just the singing) she works on songs for longer, whereas (sorry if this offends =/ ) other singers are usually given a song to sing, then just do the recording/promoting/performing.
And since she is a huge part of the process of making her music I'd really hope she would have some faith in it (I mean, it it titled This is The One biggrin.gif
semi-fly
I think my biggest problem is the lack of promotion they are doing in the states. They've only recently started playing her songs on the radio in Los Angeles & New York according to people living in those areas and reporting back to Soompi. I would think that actively promoting in the states is entirely different than promoting in her home country where she isn't a relative new comer.

I can't imagine the songs that will make their way on her new English language album were something just thought up, she's probably been working on some of these songs since Exodus bombed in the states.

No offense taken, I know that a number of singers are given their songs and never really try to add that bit of themselves in what they sing like Utada has done in the past. BoA to her credit has begun to do what Utada has been doing for year in her music.
shortboy
Craziest thing just happened..

I heard Utada on San Diego, CA radio!! They played come back to me
shortboy
So NYC and SoCal is getting our mix of Utada now, huh? Freakin' awesome.
Jaeho
Hopefully the "real" promo will begin after her music video is released.
I know Hikki's been saying she's been doing this and that interview, but really... Kiwibox? Japanator? Etc... :/

This gives me some hope:

Wonderful.

Although I kinda wish they toned down on the eye make-up. It made me wonder a bit if they really had her Japanese make-up artist do the job instead of someone else.

But overall, it was beautiful. The clothes and setting made her look elegant. She looks great! biggrin.gif
