That doesn't just affect the K and G sounds. It's the same for J/CH, D/T, B/P...

Romanization is really tricky when it comes to Korean. Some people write 가게 as kage or gage. The thing is, Korean is just full of many sound changes and rules.

Whenever ㄱ,ㄷ,ㅂ,ㅈ is the initial (first) part of a word, they sound like *soft* versions of k, t, p, and ch. However, they sound like normal g, d, b, and j the rest of the time. When they end a word and there is no vowel after them, then they sound like k, t, p, and t. HOWEVER, they all may even sound like ㄲ,ㄸ,ㅃ,ㅉ at certain times too! And of course, there are separate letters for the real k, t, p, and ch sounds (ㅋ,ㅌ,ㅍ,ㅊ). But beware, there are still sound rules that will take effect... See the examples.

바보 - babo, but sounds a bit like pabo
가게 - gage, but sounds a bit like kage
자자 - jaja, but sounds a bit like chaja
다다 - dada, but sounds a bit like tada

And so, many non-Koreans cannot tell the difference between sounds like these:

가다 - gada
카다 - kada

...but Koreans can.

발 (bal, which sounds a bit like pal) and 팔 (pal) mean "foot" and "arm," but non-Koreans may have trouble telling the two apart.

Various examples of sound changes:

학 - hak
학이 - hagi, NOT haki
한국어 - han-gu-guh
빛 - bit, NOT bich
꽃잎 - kkon-nip, NOT kko-chip
인기 (popularity) is pronounced 인끼 (in-kki) not in-gi, as in "someone's personality"
치과 is pronounced 치꽈 (chi-kkwa) not chi-gwa
할게 is pronounced 할께 (hal-kke) not hal-ge
어떻게 is pronounced 어떠케 (uh-ttuh-ke)
갔다 - gat-tta (같따) NOT gass-da
독립 - dong-nip, not dokrip

etc

So... If you are not Korean and you only learned Hangeul (the Korean alphabet), you need to learn the sound rules. You will not be able to read Korean fluently just by learning the letters.

i put a question mark there cause when you say it, your tone of voice has that high pitch to it when you ask someone a question except it doesnt sound like your actually asking a question but more like making a statement. lol get it? i cant explain it, but yeah you dont need it there though, haha
