With dictionary, u always have access to things u need, but as far as sentences, phrases and expressions in Korean go...a dictionary wont really help at all coz it just tells u the meaning of words. I mean, if u give a person who knows no english a dictionary, they'll know the definition of words, but the person will have trouble formulating sentences.

With Soompi...well i guess we can provide better help when u need to deal with Sentences and phrases (Any text that contains korean/english), but it cant be guaranteed that someone will always be there to translate it for u coz this system is based on volunteer work, lol.

There are 'dictionaries' and translators available thru the internet such as Babel Fish http://babelfish.altavista.com/ but i only recommend it for emergency use as often the translations they give are kinda retarded.

eg: i tried to translate "너를 많이 사랑했었나봐" into English and the Internet translator said it meant "It will be extensive and it loved plentifully to see" When in fact it actually means "I must have loved u a lot"

When I encounter some phrases I don't know, I usually cut them down into phrases, or translate them word by word just in case, like I would translate 너, then 너를, and 많이, 사랑, 해었, 나봐, 사랑해었나봐, etc...

Same thing here, but at my school, I encountered a Korean girl, and I didn't know if she was in the same grade or not, so I started using informal, but then I learned she was 1 year higher, but she let me use informal XD Even though I feel awkward when I get to the ending part when I have to either just end it or go 요, or something.

yeah, 새끼 is like as*hole/b*stard in slang. it's used somewhat more commonly than 자식 for cursing at people i think, for example if you punch someone they might be like "야! 개 새끼야!"

but like i said i know guys who're friends who call each other 새끼 a lot, in which case they're calling each other b@stards but in an...affectionate...or playing around kind of way.

I call my friends those kinda things sometimes, for fun.

HOWEVER, Originally, "새끼" can simply mean "child"...nothing offensive at all. It is a common cliche in Korean drama's for mum's to affectionately say to her daughter/son "내 새끼!" (My Kid ) and "자식" commonly just means "child" as well........but it depends on how u say it, when u say it and who u say it to

Ok, when you are talking to a girl that has an older brother, say "니 오빠"-say 형, and you're saying that she is a he, because you're asking for HER oppa, not yours.

yeah, or you could just refer to her 오빠 as so-and-so 형 if he's also older than you.

whenever you're talking to someone about someone related to them, you have to think in THEIR position.

so you say '네/니 오빠', because it's HER oppa. just think that you're them, and say what they would say.

As with when to say Oppa or Hyoung...always put it in the viewpoint to who it relates to.

eg: you're a guy, but ur referring to another girl's older bro....You would say "Her Oppa" NOT "Her Hyoung"....of if the guy is older than you...it would be "My Hyoung....Her Oppa"

With Oppa...its always HER oppa (and MY oppa if ur a girl)
With Hyoung...its always HIS hyoung* (and MY hyoung if ur a guy)


*there are exceptions....sometimes girls call older guys "Hyoung" especially if they're a bit Tom-Boyish, etc..but these cases are rare.

"새해복 많이 받으세요" is the equivalent of "Happy New Year"

Literally it would mean "I wish u have many New Year Blessings" in English, but yep Koreans say it to eachother meaning "Happy New Year"
