my friend needs help translating this quote for her fanfic!

"I know she likes you, but is it okay if i like you too?"
LoH_Ter
Hi...I was just wondering, is there some kind of trick or something you can use to figure out when you're supposed to use ㅐ or ㅔ when you write certain korean words? Like when you write "dog" in korean, you use to first one, and when you write "crab" in korean, you use the latter, but both words sound the same (to my ears atleast).

Are you just supposed learn by memory which words use which of those compound vowels, or is there some other way you can tell?

For me, this is hardest part about writing korean...
moonk379
ummm i think you just have to figure it out from sentence

Yes, it can get quite difficult and confusing sometimes, but as the saying goes, practice makes perfect.
I don't know how I got the hang of it, but you DO get used to it after a while.
Just write write write, see how it goes(: If you still have trouble, hmm.. I don't know how I can help you.^^;
But firstly. JUST PRACTISE(:
Good luck!

NEW POST: apparently i clicked "new topic" instead of "add reply" in this section.. so kinda made a new thread in general discussion section.. ma bad.. tongue.gif

ok.. anyway, the real thing i need help with is..

1. Im learning Han'gul from a newly made friend who recently arrived from S. Korea, she's really nice and really pretty .. anyway.. she helped me alot with Korean alphabet, now just 2 weeks after my alphabet lessons, i can read/write korean characters.. sooo cool . laugh.gif

anyway, I can read korean newspapers, but really really slow, as in syllable by syllable, though i cant understand what i read sometimes.. im still learning.. "hangugeo chogum hasuisumnida" ~ if im right, it roughly translates to: "I know a little korean".. well back to topic.

She just got here in the US, and her English isnt perfect, she often asked me to correct her English whenever she makes a mistake. but to me she speaks very well, she just needs the confidence, she's a bit shy did i mention she's cute? blush.gif

anyway, i said ill teach her english if she helps me learn korean, and well she did that.. but i dunno how to teach her English.. or at least gain confidence in speaking it. been 2 weeks since i saw her, I've been busy looking for bookstores everywhere, anything that might help boost her confidence. Then I found book + audio CDs titled: "Fluent English" then i said: "YAY!" so i bought that for her.. i gift wrapped it, now im just waiting till this Sunday to give it to her.. *I attend a Korean Church, but im Filipino* my question now is this:

"how do I write "hope this helps" in Korean?" ~if you can type in korean that would be nice, so i can copy it and put it in the card.. if not, could you try to romanize the phrase? if you can do that I can try converting it to Han'gul. Thank You!

But I bet you'll always have at least a small accent when you speak.

Just a little correction.
It's 절때로 가지마...
also I would think that it's more natural to say 절때로 떠나지마 because 가지마 means more like "don't go", 떠나지마 means "to leave"
Romanization (just in case you want it ) is
절때로 가지마 juhl ddeh lo gah ji ma
절때로 떠나지마 juhl ddeh lo dduh nah ji ma

Could someone translate this unsure.gif

IPB Image

Kim Choong Gon: Jung Mi sshi (respective particle)... I don't know what's wrong, but I'm always looking out for you! Become a strong woman...

Well, instead of 'looking out', it actually means 'watching you' but that's kind of scary o_o and it's not what you think it means.. Korean is confusing hey hahah -0-

I suggest you don't use online translators because they give false info(:
Just ask here.. and if it's too personal, just PM a person =D

well none of the sites are really good or even good since translating from english to korean is more difficult and doesn't follow english grammar. but try zkorean.com for words and babel altavista for sentences but know that it might not make sense all the time or even 80% of the time.

I translated the lyrics and made it as literal as possible so, here you go

SM Town's Red Sun
The warm sunlight, cool wind
Within, you and I
SMTOWN bow bow boom
The beautiful melody of love, la la la

The lights are so bright, cannot open my eyes. To me, a city too hot (?)
When I stop my steps and close by eyes, I hear the blue ocean

(I) send out trembling currents of electricity signaling my heart
If you feel it, tell me that you feel the same way

As the wind blows the wet strands of hair
oh, right now is Summer time!
When I'm by your side, it doesn't seem like this will ever change

(*)Inside, when the hot sun is overfilling
I want to send you my feelings
Come closer and stay by my side forever
Like the endless rolling waves
Here in this place full of your scent
Loving you as if for the first time

Rap)
Where the rough waves and cool wind blows,
To my heart, come on
My name, youth(?), your name, ocean
The blinding light of the pearl encrusted shell

As I come to know you, every day becomes new, right now I'm perfect
The remaining hesitation
Like the white foam bye bye

As the wind blows the wet strands of hair
oh, right now is Summer time!
When I'm by your side, it doesn't seem like this will ever change

*Repeat

I want to stay here, only with you
I want to give you everything I have

Rap)
Uh, Uh, Here we go~ With Yunho and Shindong
Are you ready to spend this summer together
(We're) ready with great passion
Enjoy with laughter ha ha ha
Come closer so I can feel it
This summer together, forever
Feel and enjoy, together laugh
Yell louder

*Repeat

Rap)
You are my Sunday make it bounce with me
To me, larger and cooler than the ocean lady
Look at me uh remember this moment
Below the sun you and I are perfect

Embrace the ocean, even the breaking waves
As we embrace the sun, you and I together
Our meeting becoming closer
Our memories becoming deeper
I'll cherish it, our unique summer time!

yeah, sorry if the phrasings a bit awkward wink.gif

That's cool, thanx! smile.gif
