im so confused please could you help me or lead me to another page with instrictions for newbs like me greatly appreciated.

Im also using virtdub so i hope this can help you and applies to where u have stuck......you need to install the codec like divx or Xvid codec onto your virtdub. below is the link to more info on virtdub on how to filter your subs into the clip (SSA not srt). If using srt file u need to change it to SSA file first. hope this helps

Whew, I was gonna write in English, but I knew I wasn't gonna be able to express myself well in English, I gave up in the middle of writing..
What I can do well! my native language..! Korean is what I have chosen to write in^.^

But.. it might be a little difficult for you to translate.. I'm so sorry T_T

Since it's the beginning of the school year, are you gonna be busy?
I left a message on the guestboard on your cyworld.. hmm.. you wrote as if you were gonna leave forever T_T I was so sad..

I couldn't do anything for you but you said you were appreciated.. thank you^^

I was very happy that I could learn English all because of you..
and I was also very happy to be able to talk about things earnestly^.^
Not just about Jung-Eun.. and other private conversations^^

Only if I could speak English more fluently.. I would have kept in touch more often.. I'm so disappointed...

Unnie! You're not gonna leave forever,r ight? You gonna come back, right? ..hmm..
I'm so disappointed that I don't know what to do.... T_T

(When she said she's disappointed, she's not saying she's disappointed at YOU.. just saying that she is because she wished she had spent more time with you, but that didn't work.. etc.. k? ^^)

I feel silly asking this, but I still don't 100% get it. What's the difference between 을/를 and 은/는? The way I understand it is, for example, 나를 would be "to me" or "with me (to a degree)" and 나는 "I am [blank]".

And I have a sound question. One one of the websites (teenkorean I believe), they pronounce the sound 외 and 왜 differently and I grew up pronouncing the two the same. Is there a difference or am I hearing wrong?

을/를 is used for to indicate the direct object.
은/는 is hard to describe b/c korean has subject and topic markers, so i don't want to get the terms confused, but, anyway, 은/는 is called a "topic" marker, but in english terms, it is used with the subject of a sentence. actually, the difference between 은/는 and 이/가 is much more complicated, imo.

Would someone please translate this song title for me? It's track 6 for the OST from My Name is Kim Sam Soon. Thanks a lot!

umm ok i dont kno if my question is going to make sense or not...but when would you use the base form of a verb, etc? i.e the 'da' form, e.g 'mianhada', 'haengbok hada' etc...

also, why is 'ne' added to the end of some sentances? e.g 'i miss you' = 'pogo shimneyo' ...hope that makes sense. thanks!

"하야... 참 코코나..."

But she is saying "참 곱고나", am I right?

Sorry, I should have included a sound file. I found the dancer in the CF is the same voice here, so she is from North Korea (pretty voice!). I can't make out some of the words she says. Can anyone find out in addition to my original request?

She says '만나 보고싶고' I believe.

That's all I heard in it besides what you already wrote.

Also, it sounds like 연변사투리. Yonbyun Dialect.

It's the part of China above North Korea where Korean is one of the languages.

Oh, you're right! My mistake.

She's from Pyongyang. But if 연변 sounds like that, I like it! Seoul dialect is boring. (Probably cause I was born around it)

Oh Pyongyang?? Does she live in South Korea?? o.0?

Seoul dialect really isn't a dialect ... it's just basic. xD

I like JeJu Island's dialect ... 안녕하시다이다이다이. laugh.gif
bsu
Pyongyang is the capital of North Korea! =D

I thought every province had their own dialect (you always hear [province name] followed by dialect), Seoul being the most understood/practiced because it's the capital and most dominant state.

That's Jeju? I thought it was 안녕후아과 (how awkward! xD)

lol. I just heard that 다이다이다이 was what the elders spoke. xD

I knew Pyongyang is the capital of N.Korea ... I was just wondering if she lived in South or North.

Because I'm from Seoul, but I live in Washington. tongue.gif

People born in North Korea are there forever. They did however agree to let her shoot this CF with a South Korean company (and with Hyori), but it was in Shanghai lol.

To answer your question about Seoul dialect,
It's called 표준어, the standard dialect/language.

Jeju Province's is like.. blah blah blah 감수광 or something like that.. haha.

shame on me, i'm taking korean and I have difficulty just reading the instructions.

can anyone translate the following:

영어 속담과 한국어 속담에서 비슷한 것과 차이가 나는 것에 대해 이야기해보세요. 이야기한 내용을 정용을 정리하고 보족한 내용은 더 조사하여 "영어의 속담 한국어의 속담 비교"라는 제목으로 글을 써 보세요.

all i can make out is that it wants me to write something about a comparison of Korean and English folktales.

Yes, it's telling you to write about similarities and differences between English proverbs and Korean proverbs.
The Title should be "영어의 속담 한국어의 속담 비교". You should neatly organize your stories and whatever you are missing in the story, you should research.

Did you actually type this yourself? I see some typos, and one word (정용) doesn't seem to fit in the sentence (for me, anyways). Please double check. smile.gif

thanks! one more for today

속담: 암탉이 울면 짐안이 망한다.

A: 오늘 안민자 대리가 또 한바탕 얀단쳤대요.
B: 암탉이 울면 집안이 망한더는데 안 대리가 요즘 히스테리가 너무 심해.

Im supposed to write a dialogue between A and B using a folktale, such as the example above. I'm having a hard time translating the example's dialogue to begin with wacko.gif

A: today, something deputy, something
B: if a hen cackles, the house will be ruined..something these days very histeric something

암탉이 울면 집안이 망한다= When a hen cackles, an ill (or something bad) will happen in a house.
This proverb is just.. to make the females feel inferior. How it's formed is..
Ages ago, people knew that a hen (female chicken) does not cackle in nature (always the male ver [cock] does).
Likewise, according to the female inferiority idea that existed in Korea, in a household, a wife should not interfere with important matters in place of the husband; if the wife does, the family will malfunction.

A: Today, Deputy Min-Jah Ahn (female, hinted by her name with Jah at the end..) once again had created a chaos.
B: The saying goes if a hen cackles, an ill will happen in a house, nowadays, I think Deputy Ahn's hysteria is way over the top.

Hope this helped. ^^

Thanks! I had a hard time with it because I kept looking at the dictionary for anminja.. i didn't realize it was a name lol. I've never seen anyone with that name (Minjah). In any case I finally completed it, although its probably full of grammatical errors.

interestingly, we have this Tamil guy in class, its amazing how many words that are similar between Tamil and Korean. The teacher was very shocked. He's quite good at Korean too.

Yay. Good luck on the other things. smile.gif

Just for your information, 안민자 IS a female name. I doubt any female Korean person from the new generation (those born after 80's or as early as 70's) to have the name. It's pretty "traditional" (being euphemistic) or.. oldie names... 촌스럽다.. would be the correct term in Korean.
You will see similar names (영자, 미자, 기자, 이자, 순자, 형자, etc). Do you see a pattern? LOL.
자 (子) is a Chinese character that means son/child. Korean women used to have this in their names because of the Japanese influence during the colonial period in early 1900's. Koreans have somewhat (or almost totally) grown out of this trend of nomenclature because, like I said, it's soo 촌스러워~ 영자야~~ ~ *ek*
"Jah" is the Korean pronounciation, but in Japanese, it's こ(ko). So you see lots of Japanese women (still) have names like Ryoko, Yoko, Mitsuko, Matsuko, Kumiko, etc.

Curious, what words were? I know only Na (me), Nal (day).

I read a hypothesis in wikipedia that japanese also may be linked to Tamil as they have similar vocabulary and phonetics. Pretty interesting stuff.

Question : How to take cap off a show that is running on MediaPlayer.

I tried the Printscrn, but all i get is a blank black screen in return.

click 'PAUSE' button when you see the image you want to capture appears. Go to FILE and pick "SAVE IMAGE" on the drop down menu.

^that song is so good=] hahaha...이별 is like farewell tho, right?
umm ok i dont kno if my question is going to make sense or not...but when would you use the base form of a verb, etc? i.e the 'da' form, e.g 'mianhada', 'haengbok hada' etc...

also, why is 'ne' added to the end of some sentances? e.g 'i miss you' = 'pogo shimneyo' ...hope that makes sense. thanks!

you would use the base form, -다, when you are using the intimate speech, you know the, verb + 어/아, like 이걸 봐, or 빨리 가. Korean ppl when using the intimate style switches b/w the 어/아 ending, and the 다 ending a lot, so its hard to exactly explain when you would use it. But from my experience, 다 is used more in first person speech, like I'm tired, I'm hungry, This is hard, etc

네, "ne", at the end of a verb signifies something unexpected, something that you are surprised about, or did not expect it to happen. Like if the clothes you want are really expensive you would say, 이옷 비싸네~!! or if someone you haven't seen for a long time got really pretty, you'd say 예뻐졌네~. But you wanna be careful when using that, since you might offend someone, cuz it basically means "you've gotten really pretty", and some ppl might think that you mean they looked ugly b4 ph34r.gif

and that 보고 싶네요, it can be expressed as, gosh, i really miss you. So you miss that someone more than you expected smile.gif
