가지마 kajima does mean 'Don't go.' (hajima 하지마 = don't do)
'Don't leave' is 떠나지마 (dduhnajima)
To say 'don't leave me' say 날 떠나지마.

안녕하십니까? 제 이름은 카일입니다. 만나서 반갑습니다.
Explain to Kyle that since he's speaking/writing so formally, he needs to say 제; 내 is informal. Same with 안녕. To match his formality level in the rest, he should ask 안녕하십니까? or say 안녕하세요.
안녕 is really informal, too...like for use with friends or little kids. 안녕하세요 is really common.

If you have Windows XP I can help you.

Control Panel
Regional and Language Options
Languages tab; check "Install files for East Asian languages" and click Apply
When it's finished installing, go back to Control Panel-->Regional and Language Options-->Languages tab
Click "Details"
Find Korean in the list of languages shown, click on it, then click "Add" then on "OK"

You should now be able to choose Korean from the Language Bar in any application as long as you checked the box to show Language Bar.

Sorry if you don't have XP....I can't help you in that case.

Can you fluent speakers please listen to the first part of the song and let me know what kind of accent I have?
Feel free to let me know how bad my Korean is...lol, I simply tried to read what was romanized
Also..what are some ways I can sound more fluent?

Well, I won't comment on the singing or your accent, but you said 분 (boon) instead of 번 (buhn) in 한번에 (hahn buhn eh).

Haha, sorry u had to listen to the horrible singing..I was too busy trying to pronounce the words. wacko.gif
I think I got the buhn and bohl confused, I started saying boo after seeing all words starting with a "b" lmao

um.. honestly, i couldn't understand it sometimes. i think it's because you're like slurring your words. i know a lot of ka's who do that b/c they want to try to hide their lack of pronunciation skills, but it makes it less understandable. i'm not sure if you were doing that or not, but, anyway...

record a clip of you just talking or reading something, and it'd be easier to tell what regional dialect you have, assuming you learned korean from your parents and stuff.

잔혹과 짐승

그리고 isn't used to connect nouns like that. It's more like a connector between sentences or phrases.

Can anyone help me translate the following sentence (informal polite):

"My friends celebrated my birthday for me"


And another thing, I keep hearing this phrase " 사람 참" (i think that's how you spell it)
Cos I heard it from a period drama, is it still used in modern times? And if it's not used in modern times, what would be the modern equivalent of it?

My spelling might be REALLY off. So if someone wants to correct it.....

Hi. I'm looking for someone, a study buddy really, who's studying Korean and is of average fluent level. I would like to expand my small vocabulary and learn new grammar. Having other people to practice with would be great.

Not to sound picky, but please, only if you're serious about learning Korean. Not just for fun or because you're bored. I've been doing too much teaching and not enough learning. Haha.

을/를 has nothing to do wih 반말. the reason 을/를 was probably omitted is because it sounds more natural when you talk. if you're writing formally, i think it's always good to include markers. anyway, when it's obvious something is a direct object, subject, etc, then you don't have to include it when speaking or writing informally. i'd recommend you practice, though, because when sentences get more complicated, it's important to add the markers, or it gets confusing. this is one of the MAIN complaints my korean teachers had about korean americans is that they leave off way too many markers.

formal / informal

- "I'm leaving" - 저 갈게요 or 저 가요 / 나 갈게 or 나 간다
- "Be quiet" or "Shush" - 조용히 하세요 / 조용히 해

marayo? It depends on which definition you're talking about.

말다 (malda - dictionary form) can mean

1. to mix
2. to roll up
3. do not
4. to stop

If you're talking about 3 or 4, then something needs to be infront to make the phrase complete

i dont really come into this thread often so i hope your question hasnt been answered~

그리워해/그리움 means yearning as in like wanting something deeply~ (whether it be a person, place, or thing...)
if you've been in love, i think you'll know this feeling ... blush.gif
