are you sure it's written correctly? if it isn't, i'm guessing it's supposed to be 우체국의 보혐, which would mean postal insurance.

Umm. "technically" the sentence makes sense with some grammatical mistakes here and there, but it doesn't really make sense to be used in the particular situation.
I think this sentence can be reworded to be --> (I hope/pray ) they experience true convesion, turning away from blah blah blah, <---- right?
If so, it should be:
전쟁과 파괴의 길에서 나와 평화와 정의의 길로 그들이 진정한 전향을 하길 바랍니다.

Man. in Korean, that sounds somewhat communistic.

It's pronounced "hess" usually words like that have an 어following.. like 했어. it a "다" or something like that is following it's "Het" so that "했다" would be "hettda"

I have kind of a dumb question... well, a simple one. Just about plain ol' past tense conjugation and how the syllables are written.
And I'm sorry, I can't type in Korean or else this would be easier to ask, but just bare with the romanization. ^^;


When in a verb stem the last vowel is "a" or "o", to conjugate to past tense you add -assŏyo or -ssŏyo, right? Well this stupid book, a phrase book, has a grammar brief in the beginning (where I learned this) and it's the only part of the book that has everything romanized and not in hangul... So I'm iffy about how exactly it should be written in hangul...

So for example, the verb "ka-".
To say "[insert subject] went", it'd be kassŏyo, so they tell me. But would the syllables be "kass-ŏ-yo" or "ka-ssŏ-yo"?? Do you ever add the two "ss" to the end of the last syllable of the verb stem, or will it always end the same and the next syllable always be "ssŏ"?

I hope you understand what I'm asking.. Sorry if I'm not making sense! ^^;; Thanks in advance for your help.

partially right. in korea, "electricity" or "bodypart falling asleep" is called "ji" (지). rat is also "ji" (쥐).
different spelling, same pronounciation. so they're kinda licking their nose and sometimes they add cat meows b/c it's just a tradition... supposedly i guess, the cat is chasing the "rat" away



갔어요. "rules" my mom taught me when i was young... you "carry the consonants over" meaning that it wouldn't be "gat uh yo" but "gassuhyo". so that rule deals with pronounciation but you're asking for spelling... i think it's "kass-ŏ-yo" IF it's given that you carry the sound over. "ka-ssŏ-yo" is only the pronounciation. though i pronounce it "gass ssuh yo"... so i put it on both.

Okay, I think I got it... maybe. ^^; So 갔어요 is definitely the correct spelling, but unlike what you could assume it IS pronounced "gass" and not "gat"?
And about the carrying over... You mean that since the "ss" was originally part of the "ssŏyo", it's carried over and thus still pronounced as a "ss"? But if the original syllable was, hypotheticall, actually "갔" and the "ss" didn't come from some other ending, it WOULD be pronounced "gat"?
