this is a CULTURAL as well as language question... and you need to read the story that goes with it..

so basically i was an idiot this morning..
and since the kid that i tutor didnt show up, i was just sitting in this teacher's classroom talking to my friend...
then this (asian, i would guess korean) girl came in and she was studying...and i noticed that it matched mine.. so i pointed it out to my friend (i was excited.. cause i'm an idiot) and she laughed at me.. when i tried to tell that girl why, she didnt seem to understand... and she kept looking at my friend (who's chinese.. i'm white by the way) and me..
so i felt really bad.. i tend to hang out with the korean kids so i have an understanding of some of the stuff they go through when they come.... and since i assume she's new, i probably made her feel even more uncomfortable in this weird place...
so i really want to apologize to her.. but i'm kind of shy to, since i'm not sure what the korean custom would be about this..
i can speak some korean (i have a tutor), but i'm not that good..

i need a strategy plus advice of what to say? please/// TToTT
thank you~

what is it that you want to say? she probably was looking at your friend because if you're studying korean and she sees this asian dude, she's maybe thinking he's korean american and looking for him to help her understand what's going on.

from your story, she seemed like she was just laughing or giggling because you seemed way over-excited about her being korean. it doesn't sound like she was offended, so i'm not sure what it is you want to say. i'm sorry? i'm studying korean, so i was excited to see that you're korean? all of that seems like it'd just make things way more awkward. just let it go.

#1 figure out what you want to tell her

#2 have someone here write a note that you can copy on your own (you can write in korean at least, right?)

#3 make sure the note has further instruction that you'd like for her to help teach you some korean

#4 do ur best, good luck

I think a better way to write it would be
래이니
and
마이컬. (:

But it could be like that.. I guess. ahaha (: But 레니 would be more appropriate for "Lenny" (:

Hey! That's my best friend's name! loool. yup. it's 이단비. (:
lee would be the last name and "dan" is sweet and "bi" is rain, so lee sweet rain. ahahah (: That's the literal (sp?) translation. ahah

I don't know if this belongs here, but I didn't want to start a new thread. Does anyone know if there's a thread for the KBS2 gameshow/talkshow 위기탈출 넘버원 ? I recognize the 넘버원 part to say "number one". I checked around but it doesn't help when I don't know the full romanized or english name of it.

we don't have a thread for that yet. you can make a new one and report it in the threads directory.

i want to work with Jun Jihyun one day. I was a big fan before her debut. (laugh) most guys must feel this way also but after watching the movie "my sassy girl" i fell for her charms. and the Jun JiHyun in the movie's character is similar to my ideal type. if you see her in movies she captures the attention of guys. i'm not sure what her true self is like but through the works i feel like she is a person with many charms.

Okay, so I finally decided I want to learn how to read/write in Korean... I feel if I can start learning to read Korean and become fluent in reading I can start speaking better... I feel how I hear Korean is wrong. Like some syllables and things aren't clear to me.

What's a good place that makes it simple? Like Japanese was easy to learn for me because it has charts and stuff... It only took me about 1-2 hours to memorize the katakana/hiragana and be able to slowly read it... but I don't understand how Korean is put together and how the sounds are... or if I'm pronouncing things right haha. It looks confusing >_<

I don't know stroke order either sad.gif. I looked at some of the links on the first page and feel overwhelemd :\

If you learned kana easily then you should find Korean a breeze--it's a really easy system to learn and the pronunciation rules are actually easy to catch onto after a very short time. The links on the first page should be fine if you go back and try again. There are a lot of places to quickly learn 한글 (the Korean alphabet) on the web. Good luck! Don't worry too much about stroke order. laugh.gif It's not as big a deal in this case as when you learned Japanese or if you've ever learned Chinese. One of the sites at least I think has sound files for everything, so look for one like that. It took me maybe 30 minutes to learn basic reading and not much longer to learn the harder pronunciation rules; a lot of the rules actually make sense.

I guess the hardest thing about learning to write Korean would be spelling. Even I have a lot of trouble with that and I'm Korean. =_=; ahaha But it's pretty easy to read it. (: lol. a lot of the words have the same pronunciation, just different spelling and meaning. ahah. Stroke order doesn't really matter as long as it looks like the word. It's pretty simple altogether though Good luck! You'll get it soon...

and I don't know any sites, I'm sorry. =_=x

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I'm sorry. I should've actually put this in one of the stickied topics. My apologies.

Well, I'm korean- born in the US- and I pretty much understand it/speak it (sort of)/read/write(sort of), but spelling and how to say certain phrases and spell them is my main problem and what is keeping me from being fluent. I'm constantly worrying whether or not I'm using specific words right. Can anybody recommend any good sites (in english) that might help me with stuff like this?

I find it easier to teach yourself or to take actual classes. I think it's complicated for a person that just learned it themselves to teach others.
If you memorized the korean alphabet/sounds then you could go on youtube and watch 'Let's Learn Korean' with Lisa and Stephen. It'll help you lots. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_language )

I need help with translations again:

나야 뭐.. 잘지내지 ㅋ
너는??? 음. 3일동안 쉬는데
뭐하고 지낼거야??ㅋ

------------

ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 새해복 많이받어!!!
.....세뱃돈 주세여 ,,,☞☜ㅋ

I think this one is saying something like, happy new years and get lots of money but I just got to make sure I'm correct. XD~~

Why is the k/g sound sometimes like this: and sometimes slanted at the bottom ?
