lol ummm yeah i pretty much dont listen to any asian music at all...i used to listen to like jay chou in middle school but thats about it. asian music seems to "poppy" for me like the nsync and bsb mini cooper from like 4th grade and most asian rap is terrible. haha am i the only person here who feels that way? i'm more into stuff like dashboard confessional, something corporate, taking back sunday, jimmy eat world, jack's mannequin, coldplay, and pretty much any crunk music from the ATL
ace.spattervenom
No. If it weren't for my family, I probably wouldn't be listening to much asian music.
But I do listen to some, mostly sent by friends and stuff that I just liked.

I find current asian pop on the radio is terrible, whatever it is that's on. =/

I can recommend some really good asian music if u like

I listen to about 15 asian artists on the regular.

I admit C-pop is kinda like that...really cheesy to me
(no offense) I can't listen to it, only Leehom.

I can recommend good J-pop
Try Namie Amuro! "Want me Want me" that song is crazy!
cpopbaby19
^lol. i think i saw that on Channel V before.. mellow.gif i guess Jpop is really not just for me. .__.

i used to listen full time on american music. Like the classic ones.. late 90s.. when i was growing~ xP but later on when i got to highschool, i started listening to cpop (it was kinda good and not cheesy back then..) then i found kpop, which i am REALLY obsessed right now.

well, probably if F4 wasn't around and didn't come up with Meteor garden, i'm only listening to american music (and local music [opm]). mellow.gif you're not alone. lol. but yeah, i still DO listen to american music nowadays. smile.gif like P!ATD. <3
MUXU
im chinese, but i find mainstream chinese music just plain blah.
ShukakuOTS
if u don't like asian pop try visual kei/jrock haha
Malice_Kaiser
I don't think you've listened to much Asian music if that's how you really feel...

Sorry if I'm really generalizing, but I can tell Chinese music probably isn't for you. It's pretty much all poppy, and only a handful of the artists contain any actual talent (sorry, but it's true. that's just how their music business flies).
But there are a ton more genres of music in Japan and less mainstream Korea. Japan has visual kei which is unlike any other genre from any other country, and some pretty good mainstream rock to boot. And once you stray away from the pop scene in Korea you can come across some really great finds.
And though the music is harder to come across, other countries like the Philipines have some good rock bands too.

I mean if you don't wanna listen to Asian music it's cool and all. I'm just saying you probably haven't looked hard enough.
JiNi;
haha you're so americany~ lol.

Is it only just chinese music you've listened to? try some japanese and korean music, very nice stuff right there.
sweet serenity
Have you tried j-rock? The list you named is mostly alternative/rock which is a genre I listen too to.

I don't really listen to much Asian rock so I can't give you any suggestions.

I can, however, suggest some artists for R&B, hip-hop, and pop. The bands you listen to that are 'poppy' are like DBSK, SJ, etc, right?

I HOPE ur the only one who feels this way?

WHy would you have an account at *soompi* when it's MAINLY about asian music *Korean* to be specific, that's weird

I'm sure theres a lot of american forums you could find...

U;NEE is EXCELLENT RAPPER, you obviously haven't been giving asian rap all that much of a try...

and all those bands you listed are SO BORING that's one of the reasons why I hate american music, it's ALL THE SAME now, they all play guitars, all their music videos are so DUMB, but a lot of people are into it....IDK why.

ASIAN MUSIC all the WAY!
tasty
no, you're not the only one.

i never listen to asian music. i hate it.

and to the above poster, not all of soompi is dedicated to korean entertainment.

what do you think *Mainly* means? not all, but most...that's what it means, so I don't know you your calling idiot, an idiot is someone who "Never listen to asian music." How an you hate asian music? what a weirdo!
snail.
I think it all depends. Sure, there are still artists out there that will be these 'typical' boybands who'll sing these poppy songs just to entertain people. I believe that there are awesome singers that you haven't discovered yet, probably you used to hear the same thing over and over again so you just quit, but I say even if you hear that someone is overated, give them a chance, MAYBE you'll end up liking it.

kawaiiprincess
i haven't listened to a lot of asian music (j,c, and k)yet...
i used to have jpop cds though smile.gif and kdrama ost smile.gif
i'm trying to like kpop, but im mostly into kdramas and movies smile.gif
in terms of philippine bands though, i'm a huge fan of the rock bands and semi pop bands too! ^^;
you should try listening to spongecola, hale, 6cyclemind, sugarfree, imago, barbie almabis, kitchie nadal, bamboo, rivermaya, kjwan, sandwich, pupil, chicosci, etc. smile.gif they have english songs, which are soooo beautifully written smile.gif

i saw the vid of ayashi a while ago... and i kinda like it, so i guess i have to listen to more asian music to appreciate it smile.gif
touchthesky
i listen to an equal amount of asian music and american music.
yea well theres nothing wrong with not liking asian music. but im sure
if u keep searching you`ll be able to find something u like

look at all the sub-topics under 'soompi world', 'soompi interests', 'soompi entertainment' and 'soompi artists'

then stfu.

edit: since i doubt your intelligence, let me point out only a small portion of those sub-topics are dedicated to korean/asian artists.

I have music in these languages: Latin, french, serbian, russian, german, chinese, japanese, korean, vietnames, tagalog, arabic, AND MORE! I'm inspired by all countries, but not america since i live here, it's not exciting!

AL_NT_ATT
i'm not a big fan of american music or any other languages besides chinese, japanese, and korean--occasionally vietnamese. other than those languages, i don't bother. so i guess i'm a little bit of the odd one out.
iamstellar!
your not alone. i just looked at my ipod and i barely have 20 korean songs but i have 1,000+american songs. i try to listen to more korean music but nothing appeals to me...

Usually I'd go and recommend you some YG Family stuff..lols. Cause that's what I like..hehe....buuttt I don't want to force anything on you (but give it a try yeah?^^) well..if you want to listen to an album that will blow your miiiiind...

I'm currently listening to Epik High's 4th Album. *___* Try it.^^ I've never really listened to Epik High surprisingly, but wow..I love their music!

I started off listening to American music...but I blame my friends for getting me into Asian music. I listen to some American artists still tho...like Omarion and Coldplay..lols..I know they are so different...but I listen to all genres.^^

^ i LOVE "fan" and "love love love" by epik high. it's the only korean music i listen to these days. not a big fan of yg though.

for me it's the other way around. i grew up on korean music but my friends got me into american music.
Dee
Word, I don't listen to asian music no more. I used to be "crazy" about it but it died out about a year ago, lol. But I still listen to Se7en occassionally, lol.

Back in middle school, the ONLY music I listened to was Korean music, but now, it's about 90% American. Lately I've been into the older songs like John Lennon, Donna Summer, Rolling Stones o_o

I just think American songs are of better quality especially the older ones not the new ones that mostly talk about sex, money, girls, etc.
clee86
Used to listen to a lot of American music, got kind of tired of the new stuff though. I pretty much only have a handful of korean songs I like though.
amydien
Me too. I used to listen to a lot of american (or english) music when I was in elementary, but since I went to highschool, it became all japanese, korean, & opm....lately, I get to listen to some english music (though I cant very much keep up and relate to the english music anymore) that my friends play when Im with them. I found Japanese music to have many genres like bubblegum pop, anime ost, jrock, hiphop, rnb, and some more matured version of pop. smile.gif

I don't listen to asian music AT ALL.
radiant.DOLL
i'm not a huge asian music fan but i sometimes listen to it on my friends phone at school biggrin.gif
JungxYumi
You're not the only one. korean music is like a joke to me.
Michelleys
There are really good chinese music out there, but not those modern day ones.
I listen to like Zhao Wei style music. Like Huan Zhu Ge Ge songs. To me those are really good. They are much better than like F4 songs. (pshh, haha sorry if I offended any F4 fans.) But I still listen to LeeHom and Alan Luo.
x`ind
i don't anymore. i mean my asian music days are over. lol. its just too iono corporal and mainstream. maybe if i could get a hold of indie asian stuff that isn't just the same ''boy loves girl girl loves boy'' sweet sounding ballads.
Iridescence
I really don't think you've listened to enough kind. Yes, its true that pop music seems to dominate most of the asian music, but that does not necessarily mean that it is the only type of music genre out there. There are tons of great artists of many different genres in the Asian world.

I have to say, though... I haven't been listening to Asian music in a while. I still love it and keep it dear to my heart. But I just haven't been listening to it lately. I think at times, I wish I could understand what in the world they were saying. But, hey. That's life.

I would recommend you to try other artists of Asia other than those in the pop genre.
little mixed girl
it's somewhat ironic that you post on soompi (a site geared towards korean music), but say that you don't like asian music.

as to all of the other forums; a few years ago soompi didn't have all of those forums.
they were created because all of that stuff can't fit into general discussion without it becoming scary.
mayo
i dont listen to much asian music. if it werent for my sister, who is an asian music fanatic, i wouldnt even hear about certain asrtists...
dOotsiez
most asian pop imo is terrible, save for leehom tongue.gif
Tonyc402
I dont see the reason why you posted in this forum then. Since this forum basically is mostly about asian music . Unless you are wanting to learn to get into asian music thats cool. But other then that wouldnt suggest this forum is for u .

I listen to a few english music . I like cold play , omarion , usher etc.. But mostly i listen to asian music .Chinese , Korean, Japanese .
butterflyeffect
I find it really ironic how you posted on Soompi.
brighteyes
i used to be really into kpop when i was younger but it's become really annoying and most of the stuff sound the same so now i don't listen to any of the mainstream singers. there are some good bands though if you search more.
wee33
i'm chinese. i don't listen to ANY asian music, well, ok, rarely. i don't remember the last time i listen to an asian song. i don't enjoy a lot of them. mainly because i'm not much of a cpop/jpop/kpop person. its not my cup of tea. i'm more of a rock/alternative sorta person.
chocopocky
Yeah, it's very ironic that you posted on soompi.

If you don't like Asian pop, listen to rock.

There's plenty of amazing Asian rockers out there. You just have to look deeper. No offense but I think the stuff you listen to is rather commercial. =P

Have you tried Japanese indie?

Then again, everyone have their likes and dislikes. So yeah.
LucasBunny
I dun see anything wrong with this thread
maybe they want recommendations. besides it's just there opinion, not like they OP was bashing asian music.

But yeh, the only asian music I like is J-pop and K-pop and I can recommend u some good songs.oh yeh I like Indian music also.

But that's it, I really cannot listen to Chinese music. It punishes my ears (cept Lee Hom)

If u want some quality asian music that isnt knocking off american music

I suggest

Koda Kumi she makes catchy songs
Namie Amuro
AI
Crystal Kay

Cuz they all have good r&b vibes

Rock I recommend Japanese the onlyt k-rockers I know are the tracks and they make lame music

Gackt
Larc en ciel
Klaha
Miyavi
I've lisented to some Gazzette and they are good
I've listened to Pierrot as well, not contanstly but from what I've listened to it's pretty good.

k-pop
Se7en
Bi/Rain
1tym
Jinusean
Wheesung
Big Mama
Gummy
Lim Jeong lee (but her image is too much like Alicia Keys but her voice is nice)
Big Bang makes great music, but I aint feelin them ATM cuz they made me pissed.
