i agree with v-tops... i was a competitive swimmer for 9 years so broad shoulders were a big problem for me before. mine aren't so wide now that i've stopped but i've learned that v-necks somehow make everything look better while scoop/U necks make everything wider. i disagree with halter tops though... i've never had a problem wearing them.... i think then tend to draw the eye upwards and makes the shoulders look smaller. it's the wide tank top straps you gotta watch out for. from my own experience, those tend to rest further away on your shoulders than on regular shoulders and it just makes them look even wider.
if it makes you feel any better about your broad shoulders, almost all runway models have semi broad shoulders in order to pull off all the unusual clothes they have to wear... their shoulders give an absolute horizontal line. i used to feel horrible when i had them until a friend just said that one day.. and even though i'm no supermodel, it did make me feel better about them afterwards.

edit: and DEFINITELY NO SLOUCHING! doesn't look good even on girls with normal shoulders. broad-shouldered people just look even worse when they slouch, thinking that it hides them. that is a big misconception because when you slouch, the shoulders fall foward even more, making you look even more top-heavy. plus it makes you look like a tom-boy. you should always pull your shoulders back.

If anything,
that just totally made me day

....Sooo thanks!!
Cuz Yeah, I have pretty broad shoulders too and always have a harder time (than those girls who dont have broad shoulders) when looking for the *right* kind of top...grrrrr.

I have broad shoulders too,

my mom says it gives me a "model look" but I absolutely hate them, plus I'm short so it just looks strange lol. I wear v-necks and shirts with wide necklines that seems to make them smaller.

I have broad shoulders. I think it makes me look taller since people always think I'm taller than I really am. I'm only 5'5 but people will tell me I'm tall and when I tell them my actual height they look surprised. The only time I hate my broad shoulders is when I'm layering in winter--it gets too big and bulky. Also I can't fit into tops from Korea since I have broad shoulders and big boobs.
Otherwise I like them since it makes me look healthy and athletic when I'm wearing tank tops. v neck and unstructured tops are good to wear.

ehehe i am 5'9 and have EXTREMELY broad shoulders.
& I'm not just exaggerating. My shoulders are probably 1/2 longer than an average chic's.
i used to HATE them like crazy but I was a sad, sad kid

i love them now that i'm skinnier and my shoulder blades/arms more defined.
and i love wife beaters <3

Long sleeves.

Feb 5 2007, 03:59 PM
I have huge football player shoulders. What makes it worst is that I also have a small head and short neck.
For me, not all v-necks help hide the big shoulders. Those with really wide v-necks cuts are bad for me. I find that deeper and skinner v-neck cut helps. Cap and puffy sleeves are my enemies, but depending how the neck cut is or how I layer it, it might actually look flattering. 3/4 and longer sleeve helps tone down my shoulder.
You can also layer different type of pieces to hid your flaw; no matter what kind of neck cut it is.

Oh. I also have nig shoulders. COmpared to the average girl >___< and its sad cause they get to wear all these lace and fancu stuff and halters. but yeah. that's life.

guilty of man shoulders from swimming x---x
to hide my shoulders, if i have to wear a T, i get medium, even though i can fit small, so the T's look like they can fit me normally and hid my triangle look x--x
agreed with vnecks, because i remember my dad making me read this fashion article he saw in the costco catalgoue or readers digest or soemthing XD that said if your shoulders are broad wear vnecks so you can give the appearnce of a long graceful neck!
hide your shoulders, but accentuate your neck area so it gives you a long look! hope that helps

Omg i have broad shoulders, seriously its not even from any kind of workout or swimming, i naturally have broad shoulders...coz many times people thought i have like muscles and some even thought i am a swimmer, but i swim like very seldomly and i still have this kinda curve...it's kinda frustrating especially when i wanna wear like a usually like baby tees and they are usually kinda small around the shoulders..so i usually rest on guys muscle tee instead...so yeah i've very manly i guess..haha.

i don't have broooaddd shoulders but i'm also not the petite type..
hmm i normally just wear short sleeved cute tees so that it kind of hugs you,
but not so much that it draws attention to your shoulders.
darker colours also make you look a bit smaller.. so maybe try black/navy?

I used to be like slouching all the time because of my shoulders and if i stood straight up my chest would pop out T__T.
I have a large chest for my age LOL. So like . . i would never stand up straight.
But i think im going to now that i know slouching makes shoulders look BIGGER than usual T_T.

Does it count your arms too? Isn't that kind of unporportionate if your shoulders were thinner than your waist?

that doesn't make any sense
imagine your shoulders being 'inner' than your waist. like someone said that isn't proportional or anatomically not correct??
broad as in stocky shoulders (in bone structure)
or shoulders that are wider than your arms? i'm confused

hmmm there's a girl at my school that has broad shoulders too. but she still wears tops that makes her upper body longer. i might be wrong about this...but when u wear LONGGG tunic or any top...it gives that model look. i dont know really.

i think v-neck sweaters are suppose to look good, avoid boat neck sweaters they'll just make your shoulders look broader

oh maaan....i've always felt that I was like the only girl who had broad shoulders...I mean technically it's not our fault right? As for me, I blame the sports. I used to be on the swim team and now I play basketball and I I used to throw for track. This thread totally just made my day!

Ive got broad shoulders from cheerleading, its kinda okay because alot of the other girls do too. But ugh I look so horrible in halter tops, might as well call me a man too. =_= Well I just stick to regular tops. Im mean wearing something that reveals your shoulders are gonna make them look any smaller right??

LOL it only gives you a model look when you have broad shoulders and your realy tall! tall meaning as
your legs are tall/slim and your stomach/ waist thing is tall too/ not chubby
if your sides are tall than your broad shoulders would look great with them which gives you the model look i guess . . . o.0
I hope that helps xDD i cant really explain it lol xDD

I have broad shoulders too and what's worse is that i'm short. If you're tall then you'd get the model look. So if you're short with broad shoulders what do you wear? My friend said people with broad shoulders look good in stylish jackets but since i'm short i don't think i'll look good in them
Juli~<3

^ likewise. i'm short with broad shoulders. sigh.
i dno, even with vnecks i look pretty crap haha.
i found overly baggy stuff helps to make them look smaller.

if you wear tanks.. where ones with a thinker strap to "even" it out.. thin straps will just make your shoulders look even bigger

I don't have them but my friend does because she swims a lot.
I dont know what you should wear but I know you should never wear those regular hollister/AE tees because they made my friends shoulder so frickin HUGE. I would maybe suggest v-necks though
