i asked myself this too. yes yes, they are YOUNG, have GREAT VOCALS, GOOD LOOKING and THE COOLEST THING ON EARTH. BUT what makes them really really popular is of course the PROMOTION.
i'm not trying to say SM made them the most popular thing and they have no talent...they have HUGE AMOUNTS OF TALENT!!!!!!!! but the marketing and advertisement is what gets to EVERYONE~
if you noticed....they come out with 10 Japanese singles!!! and each single is like one or two songs...but the point is...everytime they come out with a new single which is probably a new song, they promote!! going on shows,radio stations, cfs, etc. always keeping themselves the "HOT TOPIC" of teens.
haha..and ON TOP of that...they each have an edge that brings together the group, PLUS they are an accappella group which makes them even MORE attracting....

JAPANESE: PROUD [accapella ver. just because anything accapella from them is better PLUS it's yunho's favorite song too!!]

worst?!!! lol..is there such thing? lol. some ppl posted up smoking pictures [but look how OLD those pictures are, i think they don't smoke anymore, or so i heard.] the worst thing about them is.......wellz i won't say it's really directed to THEM~ but it's their repeated subjects/answers on shows....like Yunho's first kiss thing..i heard it 3 times on 3 different shows [YSMM, Heroine6 and i think it was SUJU's radio station]
see..not really their faults...it's those who ask the questions[or maybe even SM who doesn't allow some stuff to be asked/broadcast<--that's why there are soo many changmin cuts...that's how korean shows are...ONLY showing the good side]

DesertedRose’s Response: OK, up till now, my responses have been vague but they really convey deep meanings once you are able to penetrate into them.

I'm gonna be discrete now. The worst thing about them (don't SHOOT me for this if u disagree. I m being sincere.) is their lack of English speaking proficiency. For eg: Even the directors (of their MV’s) don't suggest them to properly lipsink in English ( eg: their “LOB” instead of “LOVE” pronounciation). I would like to request SM Entertainment to get DBSK to learn English and make them fluent in it. May be SM doesn't see the benefit of it but we know that this would add flavor to their already popular image! I would love for my boys to be appreciated n recognized all over the world!

I don't think it's anything too specific, really. The boys personalities, vocal talent, dance, performances, looks, and promotions all combine together really nicely to form Dong Bang Shin Gi. Just the way they interact with each other on shows and stuff really is good enough for me to like them. ^^; You can tell they really care for each other; and the things they put themselves and go through to reach success is simply amazing.

To me, they deserve the popularity they get<3

2) What is your favorite TVXQ song/s? Why?

Ahh.. I have quite a bit. But "One" is the one that appears foremost, and I'd agree. I honestly don't know what it is about this song that makes me never able to skip it when it comes on, but... yeah. xD; I love the beginning, with the soft guitar (?) and how it just... flows. The whole song is interesting enough to keep me listening to it no matter how much I've listened to it before.

4) Who is your favorite member? Why?

Definitely Kim Jaejoong and Park Yoochun. If I can only pick ONE, I'd go with Jae, because... I don't know. He's definitely got the looks, but what got me first was his voice in "Tri-Angle". Since then I've just 'fallen' for him~? He's so blunt at times, but he also has those times when he's just utterly CUTE! Honestly, Jae is awesome. I can't word it any other perfect'er way than that. xD He may not be the most well-rounded, but he has my love. xD

3) What do you think is the best thing about them? Why?

The best thing? Everything. Their way of interacting with each other really stands out for me, though. I love how they treat each other - just like family. I honestly believe that if they ever have to disband (at least from SM, but heaven forbid) that they'll still stick together if they can, as a group, because that's what makes up DBSK, and I think they know it too. Their compfyness around each other is amazing, and they're just so CUTE together. xD

5) What do you dislike about them? Why?

Ahhh, now this is hard. I don't really think it's their fault, but their interviews lately... I haven't really been able to watch all of them with my full attention. =\ The questions are kinda repeatitive... ^^; I still love the boys, and I understand the necessity for privacy and how some questions shouldn't be asked, but some questions are being overdone... =\

I wanted to go but everyone was saying that the probability of DBSK going is like 5% out of 100% But Super Junior is going, BoA too!! I think they may go to HB because thier concert is in May. That mean they have a long time to prepare and practice.

THey better not be going to the HB because I don't have the tickets or time to go see them. I know, why in the world would I not want them to come here, right?
Well, I have no money, I don't know if I'll be able to see them that day, and it's simply just too rushed! SM would be so cruel if they were to announce at the last minute that DBSK was going to show up and then jack up their ticket prices! Oh how much would I cry if I missed out on not seeing them? Lol, I'd probably be so pissed and jealous of everyone and then cut myself...Okay, I'm just kidding about the last part, but I'd be incredibly disappointed if I were not able to see them. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, so to miss it would really "traumatize" me.

Anyway, oohhh...Mabe, I just read that you guys made a mini rumor faq, so I'll go check it out!
EDIT: You guys did a nice job explaining and listing the issues that get too repetitive. The only thing I noticed was that Changmin's popularity issue was posted twice. I'm also wondering, if you guys got SANBI to edite her post (Unless a mod did it), how come the heights still haven't been fixed?! Junsu and Micky should both be 180 cm.

And about the ballad version of Miss You...Hmmm...I'm still not sure whether I like it or not. Strange reasoning, but it's not really a "ballad," it's more like another remix. They didn't re-record it, so it's the same vocals but with a different music and speed. Ballads are sung in a different way, the vocals need to be more stetched in ballads. It's basically like another Yamaki's remix. It's good, but I still like the original better, I guess that's how I'll rate it. Unlike Choosey Lover, I didn't even like the original very much to begin with, so when the remix came out, I was extremely surprised at how good it was.
Anway, that concludes my blurb.
