So.. who wants to complain/talk about the AP program? =D

This is also for people who have questions and need answers (obviously). Help each other out!
kpstar25
whooooo ap!!! so alot people at this forum are taking like average of like 4/5 ap tests and my school recommends taking like 3 max..and most of the people(student/parents/teachers) where i live discourage you from taking ap classes..am i the only one who experience this?
saera
In our physics class, every single one of our tests this entire year have been real AP tests. And our final was the actual AP mechanics exam...so naturally everyone got a bad grade. Except two kids got an A on it! That's like getting two problems wrong on the actual AP test! crazy.gif

Yeah, and I could keep complaining...since every AP class is taught solely around the AP exam. So everything goes like this "okay kids, on the AP test they are going to ask you about this and not this, so you dont need to know about this." Yeah...180 days spent talking about a 3 hour test. -___-;;
chdairkld
AP takes up all my time. I wish I were a genius and could read and comprehend and memorize without taking forever! Where has my life gone???? Well at least I got over the initial shock of sophmore year and World History. My brain feels fried a lot. As a senior, I don't know if I have the will to focus until the May exams....gah.
Dim Sum
I have AP US History 1 this year. The class is not bad but the test are hard. For each question there is like two possible answers.
And i need to get a 4 or a 5 on the AP exam to get my college credits.
Is anyone here taking AP economics? Is it hard? Interesting?
jess89
as soon as we're done taking the ap tests, the classes that we used to pull allnighters studying for tests or writing papers for are basically over. i do absolutely nothing from the day after the exam to the last day of school. now that i'm a senior, its basically take the exams, graduate, be done with high school forever. whoohoo.

so which ap classes did you guys take altogether?

10th grade: govt ap
11th grade: chem ap, calc ab ap, world history ap
12th grade: calc c ap, spanish ap, english ap, econ ap, stats ap

um i slacked in my history ap classes like whoa. i dont even know why i took them 'cause i hate history. i settled for B's and got 3's on the exam after not paying attention all year and not studying at all haha. what a waste of my time -.- and i feel like i havent learned anything in econ this year although we're apparently "on track" with the ap curriculum.

i don't know if i even wanna take like half of the ap exams that i should for this year... senioritis :/

--edit

ap econ is interesting i guess. i took it bc im planning to go into business. a lot of it is common sense and graph reading.
kiki
I'm thinking about taking AP Brit Lit.
Anyone taken it before?
It's year long. sad.gif lol
xgoody2shoes15x
i hate AP compsci!!!!
i dont get it at all T_T
i dunno if i should take the ap compsci exam in may or not. i got an A last semester, but it was like 89.5% lol. i dont get the subject, but i heard that the ap exam is really really easy, so im not sure...

ap euro is okay though (:
but im screwed for the essay portion of the ap euro exam :x
touche`
I love Ap Biology a lot. (: The class is soo easy but the test and quiz? They killed me.

im going to fail all my APs this year because my teachers procrastinate more than i do

i actually wish my class was CLOSE to that. i'm taking AP Physics right now, except it's really AP/CAPP Physics, and he teaches it more CAPP than AP {meaning we do labs and never talk about the AP test at all}. the worst part about it is, i'm most likely the only one in my school who is going to take the AP test for that subject, and my class {as in the people} hinders my learning rather than helps it. i seriously feel like i'm in middle school again. there was a point in time when the guys sitting next to me threw spitballs and laughed. =________=;;
malevolent.
AP Statistics is a joke in my school now because our new teacher doesn't know crap.

LOL sad.gif sad.gif

I took AP Comp Sci last year. I hated the class, but the exam was easy.

This year (sophomore), I'm not taking any AP classes because our district doesn't give AP World History classes for some reason. blink.gif So I guess I'm just taking GT World History, lol.

Next year, I'm taking AP Spanish 4, Biology, US History, and English.
I'm kinda worried about biology because my bio1 teacher last year didn't teach anything. It was her last year before retirement, so she wasn't even in school like half the time. We had open notes&book tests for heaven's sake. :[
CALI-sweetie
I'm taking Lit, Lang, Calc AB, and gov... SOOO ANNOYING. I was just going to study gov on my own, but now I don't want to.. but I already put it on my apps. O WELL. 2 is a 2 hahaha

SARAH!! You don't need to stress out. I know some people who took the AP Physics C test last year... and well, basically he summed it up as because the test was so hard, almost everyone failed. It's sort of on a bell curve sort of thing, the AP tests, that is. So basically if everyone fails, then the people who less failed or did better, get the higher grades, or, 5s on their AP test.

At least... I think. Yeah, the "AP test is going to ask something like..." thing is really annoying me in calc. I mean, Mr. Wallbaum does it a lot. Mr. Braun did it a lot too. Though, in APUSH, it's not so much. Because, well, most of the time, we're talking about something off topic. And then Ms. Thompson is just lecturing us... there's only like 3 times total she's said that.
malevolent.
They start taking payments for the AP tests next Monday for my school. I'm on the lunch program so it's only $15 per test for me. smile.gif Sucks for people with tons of APs that have to pay the $83 per test. My friend has all 6 of his periods as AP's. 83 x 6 = A LOT OF MONEY! laugh.gif

^ SIX O_O

my school....we're a really easy school. so im kind of scared since the teachers teach pretty easy stuff and i feel smart but when the test comes around i know im gonna get a 0 sleep.gif lol

anyways, im taking calculus AB, government and english literature. so yup =] but maaaaan. 83x3. sleep.gif how i wish i could take the money and do something that would satisfy me like SHOPPING XD
malevolent.
Yup. I believe he has AP physics, bio, calculus, statistics, and....... I forgot the rest. laugh.gif

oh gahh APUSH is killing me
especially if youre doing sports and youre like VP for 2 clubs sad.gif
but im not doing a sport this semester
so yeah whoot for more time.
what the HUH
honestly, ap bio is screwing me over. the class is a joke, the teacher is a joke, and i have a feeling i wont even get a 3.
i have the BEST ap ush teacher ever. the class prepares me so well (thank goodness) so at least i dont have to worry about this ap.
i have a feeling i wont do too well on the ap eng lang test because im not taking a class for it, and i suck at the critical reading portion of theSATs. ughhh im praying ill survive may with all these aps.

yeahhh i'm like your friend. i'm taking 6 tests, paying full price. but the thing is, you get a like a $15 reduction from $83 per test if you take more than one AP Exam.. well that's how it goes for my school. and i don't know if they're still doing it this year, but since i passed last year's english lang., the school should give me this year's eng lit test for free... besides the deposit.

my ap bio teacher's pace is so fast... we go through like one chapter in 2 days. that gives no time for review in class.. and she's really horrible at lecturing. i never listen to her.

ap stat, eng lit, and human geog. are all blow off classes for me luckily..
Ethereal_Memories
This year I'm taking:

AP Chem
AP US History
AP Psychology
AP English Language
AP Biology

I feel prepared for my US History, Psychology, and English tests, but Chem and Bio are completely different stories.
(I'm a Junior, btw.)

Ugh, and I worst part is, I probably spend the most time on Chem and Bio..
mai_ichihara
AP TESTs are SO COSTLY. =[
its 84 dollars. and with a fee waiver its still 53~ =[

good thing i decided to not take all my AP test
i'm only taking 5 ap tests.

but its so sad for my friend. shes taking 8 AP tests. and she has to pay 84 for each of them =[

anyways, has anyone taken the AP economic test? or AP U.S. government? how was it? and which one was easier?

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLYYY... oh god ap bio is hell... the teacher is so boring and cant teach. she laughs at her own jokes...

wow..that's so weird to hear you guys complain about bio? I suck at science..and I honestly think ap bio has been one of the best classes I've taken thus far! haha maybe it's just my teacher...but I know that the majority of those who take the AP exam get a 5...I'd just say to study some of it on your own? =]
remmy
i feel so unprepared for my ap ush exam... my teacher doesnt teach. today he spent the day telling blonde jokes and talking about his kids. he taught like 10 minutes max. but i feel pretty prepared for my ap gov exam, at least that teacher knows what he's doing...

A FIVE? wow... okay our AP BIO teacher SUCKS because no one has ever PASSED the AP exam in the past five years. soooo basically i don't even know if i WANT to take the AP exam. Sigh i would have to studyyyy hecka hard.

Apush is really easy for me and the teacher is great. i want to take AP WORLD HISTORY but my counselor keep saying its only for sophomores when its not.
jess89
have you guys already signed up for your exams?
our ap coordinator like disappeared or something and none of us have done it yet.
someone went to our guidance office to see what was up and they were like "um just go do it yourself online" wtheck. and i checked online and its like "go talk to your ap coordinator".... =.=;
saera
Registration starts next week for us, it's probably the same everywhere.

I'm in calc, bio, lang, and physics c - so that's a total of five tests since Collegeboard made physics c two tests.

I don't know if I'm going to take the AP lang test since our teacher is a retard.

And while I'm complaining, the AP bio and physics C tests are on the same day, morning and afternoon, respectively. So that's like 7 hours of AP testing.
simpleandpink
I'm only taking two AP this year [my friend is taking AP Bio and I scoffed...the teacher of that class hates me and I'm not too fond of her so smile.gif ]

AP Lang & Comp is fun. My teacher's great and he gives us tips on the SAT [he teaches an SAT class] biggrin.gif Sometimes it's boring and it's reaaaalllly slow when he gives us an AP Reading [Critical reading] but w/e He's spazzy sometimes so it's fun xD He stresses "TONE" and "THEME" a lot and says it'll help us a lot in our writing, which I think it has...

APUSH is okay. First semester laugh.gif I hate to say it because he's such a great guy + person [side note: he's Rachel Cook's dad xD xD] but he was too laid-back. Our other teacher came back after maternity leave and picked up in second semester. She's pretty good smile.gif I actually pay attention more! [And I absolutely hate US history] and I'm at least getting a little interested...

Our registration deadline was uh...last week I think...I only paid the deposit because we're poor ATM x_x But I'm doing pretty good in both classes [BUT SO MUCH WORK IN APUSH WHY ??? TT_TT] better than last semester laugh.gif
Emy
I'm taking 4 AP exams this year tears.gif

I might end up in the hospital if I think about that for too long.

APUSH, AP psychology, AP english, and AP physics

What to dooo, what to do? wacko.gif

(Don't say, "study" o_o)
jess89
i have less than 2 weeks to decide if i wanna take calc c, spanish, and lit.
my econ teacher decided that he wont teach macro (?!) so now im gunna have to self study that plus psych. ugh.
stats is like the only test that i know i'd get a 5 for sure. how sad.

are there people taking both the ap lang and ap lit test? most people at my school dont take ap lang unless they do it during their junior year. i kindof feel like "whats the point?" bc we're going to have to take english courses in college anyways..
icyhot?
on the topic of AP bio....

it REALLY depends on your teacher and/or your self motivation, depending on the circumstances.

my teacher was horrible, and the class was torture, but i studied like mad and got a 5. studyyyy time =D

It costs $94 at my school.

What do you do for the entrance exam for Computer Science AP?
pencil_geeks*
my ap bio class was fine until the teacher left to be a guidance counselor. we now have a British African teacher that has a Ph.D and had taught at Harvard. those things don't help at all with her teaching. everyday the students complain that she doesn't know how to teach and it's true. she repeats the same thing over and over again. i dont think she know what she's doing. im going to have to depend on the prep books to pass the exam.
x__yekki
That's crazy how you guys are paying $84 a test. o__o
At my school, it's only $52, thank God.
AP Lang, APUSH and Physics B.
I'm so screwed for the lang/phys b tests since both of my teachers for those classes don't TEACH RAWR
Iridescence
I'm only planning to take 3 this year. I think that's the most I will take. This year, I'm taking AP Bio, AP Psych, and AP English Language. Blah... AP Bio feel so hard. I hate doing the whole memorization stuff. It fries my brains.

Hm.. question. You know how during the AP Exams, they basically give you the whole day off or whatever, do you ever go back to your classes, or do you just go home?
grnteaaholic
^ I think you gotta go to class...

Omg the AP tests are so expensive for you guys!
I got a fee waiver and it's only $5 per test and I think you can do tutoring (9 hours) for each test in order to pay $5 each.
jess89
if its a morning test, i dont go back to classes afterwards. if its just an afternoon test, i dont go to school at all. if its a morning & afternoon test, my brain is fried by the time i come out of testing.
remmy
I just noticed that almost everyone has to pay a lot for their ap exams... my school pays for almost all the ap students to take the exams so we only need to pay a small fee of $8 ._.

^WHAT
the
HELL???

TT_TT Nice school you're going to there x_x

Anyhow, my teacher told me that if you have an AP exam, you don't have to go to school, but you can. Like if you take the AP US History test in the morning and then the next day you're taking the AP Language test, if your AP Language class is like, after the morning test [say the morning test is period 1-3 and you have AP Language period 4], you can choose to stay for that class....[Just using examples, I don't actually know if the US History is before Language but w/e]...but I don't know how it works for your school...

But me, I'll probably go home and sleep ....I mean...study smile.gif
onenonlikristy
i think i get my ap exams for free..
but only because im on some wierd lunch thing...
ahhh.. its like the only benefit of hurricane katrina.. >.<

but yeahs.. im taking FOUR this year...
not too much fun esp since senioritis is settling in..

for people worried about the APUSH exam..
it seriously wasn't THAT bad.. i was soo scared going into that exam..
i know for a fact that i completely messed up one of my essays..
my teacher told me so the next day...
plus i know i didnt get all of the multiple choice right.. because i NEVER do...
BUT the thing is, i STILL got a 4.. ^-^

Princeton Review is pretty good for most of the topics. Some topics.. I can't remember which ones off the top of my head... are a little iffy, but it's okay overall.

...

What is it with all these people and cheap AP tests???

Our school makes us pay $95 per test. I know, W-T-F. and im taking 3. that's $285 down the drain...
Acidity
Paying $83 isn't that much at all. It's MUCH cheaper than it would cost you in college [if you pass, that is].

I mean, if you do well, and get the credits, you've just saved thousands of dollars. All the more reason to study, sigh.
uninfatuated
for all those amazingly smart people out there who did well on the AP Chem test....TELL ME YOUR SECRETS!!! ahh i feel liked i'm going to get screwed over in that class. i've invest so much money on prep books that i haven't even cracked open yet =(

can you guys tell me how you prepared and did so well on the test? thanks. this class is a killer. blech.
AngeloDS
I found AP was good if you're going to go into say... An east coast school; obviously Ivy League. However, if you're not. It's really pointless/useless. There's a lot of topics that aren't covered in AP too in-depth that you will miss if you didn't take the college courses.

They only benefit you if you can get a 5, and understand the material extremely well. Because these are the classes that lead up to the "harder" stuff. It's really not advised to go into a middle of a series; that you take a series such as General Chemistry from I - III, in sequence. Same goes for Physics, Math etc.

If I could go back. I would have done the "Running Start" program compared to AP. AP is just a bragging thing really tongue.gif.

The depth of the AP classes and exams are really weak compared to an actual college imo.
tuttyfruit
in our school the fee is $95 per test....... why is it expensive in my school? and my school is supposedly rich.. -0-

but do you ACTUALLY get credit towards college if you pass it w/ a 5? i dont want to take some ap's like english language/composition and literature because im pretty sure im not going to major in english or take any english classes~
malevolent.
I finally paid for my exams. smile.gif

Anyone know if what they say about the only AP Human Geography review book out there is total crap?
