Full Version: How To Get Rid Of Fat Calves!

i think that's the name for them, lol... calves = lower portion of your legs? i have pudgy calves and i really wanna tone them down for spring/summer skirts and shorts. smile.gif

any good exercises (i know that you have to do cardio and lose weight overall...) specially targeted for that area?

i'd kill for legs like this!



(well, maybe those are a little too skinny for my taste... but yeah, at least they're not pudgy lol)

i believe the only way to get toned calves without getting muscles is to walk alot. running and jogging would make your calves bigger.

You should try slow jogging for i heard it was.. three miles? or at least three miles to slim calves. I've been doing that for maybe two or more weeks now and when i measured around my calves, they went down half an inch. It might not be much but at least it's something. happy.gif

EVERY MORNING before you brush your teeth or something, stretch them out...
and try to massage them occasionally

thats how mine slimmed down. but you really ahve to stretch everyday...
and if you want to run, run long distance atleast 2-3 miles a day...then they'll start to tone down

START PLAYING DDR ahaha. it may sound wierd, but it works ^^ trust meee =)

(and play until you are exhausted. I recommend you do it in the evening before you shower, and have nothing better to do =)

I have this problem too.
My friend suggested I do kickboxing. Apparently that helps burn leg fat.

LOL, I love the ddr suggestion. haha =)

I'm pretty sure jump-roping would help tone down your calves.
I remember when I started jump-roping after not doing it for...years.
My calves burrrned. >_> There's evidence that it works out your calves, lol.

what is the speed of slow jogging?
cuz i've been running alot at the gym like 5km in 30mins

my muscles on the back of my calves are fully grossing me out
Like if i wear 2-3 inch heels the muscles i getting defined =[

its reeli weird because i have skinny calves but i neva, neva, neva eva exericse, and i reeli mean it wen i say "never".
but den i got ddr mat (yay!) and played ddr and now my calves hav gotten a little bit thicker coz of muscle
so i wud simply recommend walking at a leisurely pace each day
2 simply "tone" them
if u run or wateva ull just get muscle
so just dont strain those legs 2 much! hehe

Yeah, I walk(pretty fast since I'm late) everyday to school and from school and they really make your legs skinny, and my friend always says "dayam, your legs are so skinny" I personally don't think they're skinny but they're pretty toned, ya know? And my walking PE teacher says power walking is way better than running since you're working your legs and burning calories longer than you are with running. Also while you're walking, move your arms.. and suck your stomach in so you can get a total fitness =]

I suggest doing yoga or stretch exercises. For some people who normally do a lot of activity, not exercising reduces the muscle and leads to thin calves.

oh wow, thanks so much for the suggestions! =) i normally run and do exercises though for other reasons, but i guess it affects my calves too. i hope the stretching exercise helps me go against muscles. xP summer is not too far away. T_T

do this...

stand normally with legs a little less than shoulder width apart
slowly and steadily raise yourself up onto your tippy toes and slowly let yourself back down
do this as many times as you can until you can't possibly do anymore

i did this for basketball so that i could jump higher.. it works

hm..running makes you gain muscles like mad. i'm in crosscountry and track, so my calves are like nasty. but i heard yoga helps, so i'm going to start doing yoga and see if it helps.

fast paced walking?
just dont run after you eat bc that all goes to muscle
but if you eat AFTER you run or something, then youll have a lesser appetite and you wont get so much muscle! :]

but that didnt help at all.

may i ask if riding bikes helped any? i mean you see all the professional bikers and their calves are thin too?
it was just something i heard and i was wondering if it worked. any body with experience?

also, for the stretchers and walkers... how long does it take for the calves to slim down?

i watched a beauty show and they said that there are 3 types of legs
1. fatty
2. muscular
3. water

for fatty, you need to lose weight and exercise

for muscular, there is not a whole lot you can do, but tone down the intense work out on the legs, don't wear high heels,
and before you sleep, lift up you legs(90 degrees against the way) and lay on your back for 15-20 minutes. this will prevent muscle building.

for water legs, just lose the water weight. don't eat too much sodium.

skipping is really good seriously gives the legs quite a workout.

i also walk really fast to school these days (caus i moved)..since im always late...
and i agree that it slims down your calves..i think mine have slimmed down...and its only been 6wks of school walking!

btw..everyday i walk 5-10 min to and then from school.

This is unfair, I do fast-walking almost all the time, but I have fat calves, LOL.

with your feet together,
go on your tippy toes and go down half way.
keep doing that.. you'll start to feel it in your calves.

Then I started walking long distances everyday during the summer and it did miracle in a week or two. biggrin.gif

how far do you walk and was your rate? I walked more about 3+ miles every single day to school, but my calves didn't get any thinner, but then again i was walking fast to get to class.

i think biking would help blush.gif i used 2 ride my bike when i was little around the neighborhood everyday & my calves r not big [they dont even have muscles haha]
but since i stop 4 like four years, my thighs r huge but my calves still remain the same....so i guess it will probably help ? sweatingbullets.gif try it

HaHa! .. yeah! i must agree this one with ya .. i used to play DDR too in my early teen years .. think thatz still DDR 3rd remix and everyone was crazy that time .. LOL .. i used to play it everyday regardless arcade or at home .. i think i at least played 2 hour a day and i didn't notice the effect at first .. i think about months later, my donkeys classmate start going like "oh man, wut happened wif ur "elephant look alike" calves?" tears.gif yeah, they're that bad .. LOL .. well, it obviously did tone down a lot though and i was so dead happy about it .. but then, i had stopped for a few good years now and my calves are back to the original "elephant look alike" calves T_T sigh~~~

worked for me!

i actually went to the extent of measuring my calves beforehand.. they were 13inches.
it's been a month, and now it's 12 inches around. YAY!

agree with what others have said, but i believe stretching is most important thing. a lot of ppl don't realize most of the ways that ppl lose some of the weight/fat(i forgot the right word for it, but you get my point) is stretching. stretching is part of every exercise. so stretch those legs! wink.gif

Stretching works for me. I just bend over and hold my toes for 10 seconds and it helps me slim down my calves. I've been walking a lot lately and I noticed my calves got chunkier. Stretching reduces the bulge.
