I can see quite a few people are into the pros and college sports. I'm into them also, but I'm currently in highschool, not in college or out in the world.
So I'm thinking, why not get into highschool sports?
I mean being on or having been on a highschool athletic team is just much more real for most people...After all just a select few of us make it into Division I schools with an athletic scholorship.
Do any of you agree with my opinion that highschool athletics are just as intense, exciting, competitive, just as college basketball or football?
Here in California, we've got nationally ranked teams that play not only in regional and state competitions but also in National and International competitions.
I currently play varsity basketball in my So. California school and its given me some of my most rewarding and memorable experiences in highschool. Our school has one of the longest running rivalries in California history and "Game Day" v.s. our rivals is huge in not only our school but also across the city.
Do you have any highschool athletic experiences?

Also this:
I'm sure you guys all heard that stereotype that says most if not all jocks in high school are horrible in academics. But I personally don't believe that. I find time to involve myself in the school Marching Band, community service, hanging out with friends, chilling at home, and dealing with a handful of AP and Honors classes. I will admit though, that I probably could have done much better in academics if I didn't focus so intensely on extra activities. I have regrets about not studying and achieving in academics to my fullest potential, but there is nothing that I really can do now. As I start applying to school with valedictorians and perfect SAT scorers, all I can do is pray to the Lord that I am walking on the right path.
I wonder if there are other people here also in this situation??

Hi!
I play basketball in my highschool. been playing for 3 years so i'm on varsity. hey highschool balls huge...like in games that ive played in...
the most huge games for me this season is probably against my rival school...played them 4 times...1 time during summer league...2 league games...and 1 wildcard game for playoffs. every game was sooooooo tight! we're like jumping down each others throats because the scores so close. every game was determined by 3 points or under. every1 had my team as the underdog. thats understandable cause our teams been going downhill for like 5 years...they said we wernt a match and that we were going to be blown out. but prooved them wrong! our team won with a upset...the other team cried... sweatingbullets.gif . we gave it to all them that underestimated us. we beat them and we went to playoffs. and playoffs were huge. like a 7 hour drive but so worth it. we sang, danced, played games, and watched hoosiers on the bus. we played a real good team and hung wid them till the end when they upset us. grrr!! ohmy.gif

Yeah ... High school basketball and football is pretty crazy ... State tournaments here in Washington are intense ....

I play basketball and track and field. My school's pretty small, so there's no freshman team ...

I played JV freshman year and Swing this year for basketball. Currently, Varsity for track and field.

Our T&F team is good ... Top 3 in our league most likely ... Our basketball team has lots of potential in the next three years too.

Thats too bad. I know how much sacrifice is required to be involved in athletics. Tennis in my school for example involves practice during the summer, games during the fall, laid-back winter and spring practice, then back to intense summer practices. Our area is pretty hot during the summer. It gets to the high 90s and possibly mid-100s. Doing sports involve not only sacrifice of time but also endurance and commitment. I guess thats why Universities look so positively on good Student-Athletes.
I suppose I am trying to convince you to join "dontmakemecry". Playing organized sports and sports for fun are two different things. Besides, High School sports is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Once your out of High School, you'll never get the opportunity again. smile.gif

Wasss on Varsity tennis in the Fall. smile.gif Loved it & miss it a lott. Even though we weren't the besttt team in the league, my friend & I played doubles together & we still managed to beat some of the best teams.

I'm only in my junior year of high school and I've played 3 years of tennis & badminton.

1 year of JV, 2 years of Varsity in tennis.
2 years of JV, 1 year of Varsity in badminton.

We took co-championship of our league for tennis this year, and we recently moved from B league to A. Can't wait till senior year. (:

That's amazing. I kinda wish our school had year-round practice like that. We have practice/matches during the spring season and that's it. And we need practice....we suck.

i really wanted to join badminton, but the club gave me the wrong room & then i went there & it was like, "hellooo, anyone here?"

so i joined fitness team. basiccally the routine is situp, pushup, pull-up, long jump, shuttle run.
you compete with other schools.

last competition the girl team won 3rd place happy.gif

i still can't do a pull-up, but hopefully with more practicee.

Ever since from 6th grade through High School, and College I've always played in both Basketball and Football for all my schools.

My younger brother on the other hand is a 4 sport guy, he plays Tennis, Golf, Basketball, and Baseball for his school.

I'm on the JV girls tennis team for my highschool. Coach says I'm getting better so she might consider putting me on some Varsity doubles! I'm kinda happy because I moved from the bottom of the list to the top of JV since season started woo hoo xD! It also makes me work even harder... I want to play in at least one Varsity game this year.

Practice starts at 2:30PM everyday after school and ends at 4:00-4:30PM, but usually I play until 5-7PM, so about an average of 4 hours a day, 5 hours a day on good weekends. I hope I can play more, I really want to get better so I can be Varsity next year sweatingbullets.gif...

Braintree's girls team is nowhere near the top, and some of our best players are graduating this year, so I really want to be there with some of my friends to hold the team up O_O... yeah. Anyone else play high school tennis?
Lum
^
Yes! Tennis. :] Me and a couple of friends wanted to try tennis after watching Prince of Tennis.. LMAO xD But I don't think any of us expected it to be this fun. :] I missed the summer practices though.. since I'm still a freshie. ^^; So yeah, I'm on JV. Most of the Varsity players are graduating this year and since tennis isn't really big at my school, our team honestly sucks. Haha. The Boy's team is really good though... From what I've seen. xD Tennis is the most underrated sport here. NO ONE comes to our games... probably because our courts are so messed up, we have to go to Skyline College to play them...

I wish tennis was year round... That would be so much funnn <3
lollypops
I'm a freshman on the swim team for jv. i love it smile.gif
asian x dork
I play Varsity Lacrosse and JV cross country/track =)

YEAH. Same with my school. I don't think anyone even knows there's tennis, because it's not even in the yearbook LOL... our courts have cracks everywhere. It pisses me off when I position myself to return a ball and it hits the crack and flies off in the complete opposite direction.

I would LOVE to have year round tennis!!!
baboko
Varisty swimmer- all years for high school. I'm quitting for my senior year for discrimination and favoritism from my coach.

V Golf- Can't play competivley again for the rest of my life. I busted my shoulder.
helenmelon
I'm not good in sports, but I made it to the teams! Seriously. I think it's only because of perseverance.
Freshman year I was in Junior Varsity Volleyball and Basketball.
This year (sophomore year) I was in Varsity Volleyball, Junior Varsity Basketball, and Varsity Basketball.
My school wasn't much in sports.. so games weren't that big and not a lot of people came.

Actually I want to join tennis too. Tennis is so fun! I just don't have enough skill to play it. sad.gif
supa'Wanki
I'm in Varsity Tennis. I was going to quit next year, but my coach won't let me, and told me even if I don't go to practice, I still have to play for the games. We're still waiting for the CIF playoff match-ups, which is tomorrow. This year wasn't that fun, but we did good. Our school is best known for sports.
sakuralily
Badminton 1 yr JV 1 yr Varsity Im a jr
kimn
Only Freshman on the varsity team for basketball :]
High school sports are quite real.
We get ranked Nationally. Every Wednesday, the newpaper post up the rankings
Quite competitive with all the tournaments and rivalries.
KorEaN
currently varsity tennis =P
i cant wait till senior year tho hopefully we will make it to CIF
bohemianheart.
I play varsity Swimming. ever since the ninth grade. But we dont' have that much people on our team. I quit this year because of my school grades. T_T. I'm so bad with balancing things all at once. I used to play jv soccer in the seventh grade. Eighth grade i played for junior high though ; wanted to support my school : ). Varsity is hard to get into ; as in soccer for the high school but the jv isn't that hard to get in. Last year i tried out but threw up during the first try out it was really bad though. Maybe next year I'll try again.

Hrm...when I was in HS (about 11 yrs ago) I was in vball and badminton during my freshman and sophomore year. I played JV vball (team captain during soph. year) and our badminton team didn't have JV or varsity. I played mixed doubles and singles. Ranked #1 at my school for the girls.

I wanted to join track & field, soccer, and cross country but I could never b/c during fall season I was in vball and when spring came I was in badminton.

I miss the high school days....sad.gif
fu yuen
I'm on girls varsity swimming, ever since freshman year.

Really excited, because this year we won championships, two years in a row!
However, last year we didn't get much recognition even though we won championships, which was really sad. T^T
This year, hopefully, we'll get some more recognition for our hard work. x)
han.
been 4 years since i graduated high school but i played football for my team.
i played all the way til junior year and made it to varsity.
then i thought i was a cool guy and started smoking cigarrettes. there went the football team. sweatingbullets.gif
i actually regret quitting the team when i sit back and think about it. i didn't even get my jacket!
oxnouieox
im a freshy soon to be sohpmore.. and my freshmen year.. i played JV Volleyball

but after a great improvement .. i'm kind of striding for varsity.. and our volleyball team was good before the c/o 10 came... but when we came.. it kinda went down.. our JV did better than V and it was really suprising ... but i think the reason why was because we encouraged everyone and everybody on the team and such.. and we got along very well. no arguments no drama no nothing.. but varsity was here adn there though..

i played setter and my coach saw how i hit, so she switched me to outside..

but i can play all positions really.. i think i might play DS next year.. but setter nah ah.. nonoo... i know hitting might not because of my height defencies.. lol.
bananasushi
I did Badminton, Track and Field, and Girls Field Hockey happy.gif So fun! We just had a play-off game yesterday for Field Hockey! =]
catch-22
Playing sports is actually one of the main reasons I come to school.
Besides learning of course. smile.gif
But anywho, I play varsity volleyball and varsity soccer.
I'm also captain of the soccer team which I'm very delighted about.
And I'm a starter for both sports. But trust me, I know how benching feels like.
I've been there, but hey, everybody has to start off somewhere and the majority
of the time, it's at the bottom. You just have to practice and work your way up. smile.gif
s13
i did a little wrestling my sophomore year

Tennis season is over, and our first and second singles graduated. Coach says she may consider putting me in third next year, and a couple of my friends is going to hell train me all through summer just so I can make it to first singles WOO HOO!!!

I did JV track and field this spring. Next year I'm thinking about pole vaulting. And currently I'm doing summer conditioning for Cross Country, but the competition is still going to be scary.
