RELEASE DATE: April 3, 2007
Well its been kinda hard since the end of 2006 and all of 2007 thus far hard to not hear a hit from Timbaland on the radio or on a TV station. He produced 2 top platinum selling albums with Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake and produced other hits for artist like Omarion. It was only a matter of time before he would release his own album. This is his second album as a solo artist even tho majority of this album, like the last features one or more artist. Great appearence by all invovled and he even has a few odd collabs towards the end of the album.
1. Oh Timbaland - Starts off with just pianos, kinda reminds me of John Legend's Used To Love U, but thats over quickly as quick and funky guitars follow. Basically Timbaland's intro, braggadocious verses. I like how the chorus sounds.
2. Give It 2 Me (f. Nelly Furtado & Justin Timberlake) - Im sure you've heard this song already as its the first single. Type beat, nice drum patterns, hard bass. Basically They are calling out other people, Nelly calling out Fergie, Timbaland calling out Scott Storch, and JT calling out Janet Jackson and Prince.
3. Release (f. Justin Timberlake) - Kinda like a sequel to Sexyback, youll hear the boom-bap drum pattern, hard synth and the ocassional "YEA!" Altho Im not to fond of the vocal style Tim uses, he sounds like Thomas Dolby singing "She Blinded Me With Science" from the 80s. I don't even notice JT until the end of the song and he isnt even doing much.
4. Way I Are (f. Keri Hilson & D.O.E.) - Best song on the album. This should definately be the next single, as it will burn up the charts and be on a constant rotation on the radio and TV. Its style if very similair to JT's "My Love" with it's techno based beat. IT IS FRICKIN FIRE!!!! Keri Hilson has a very appealing voice, some of you might remember her from the Xzibit "Mean Muggin". D.O.E.'s verse is similiar to the style Tim used in Nelly's "Promiscuous". Definatley check out this song if you can. (actually i think someone posted a link for it on here.)
5. Bounce (f. Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake) - First off let me say couple of things, 1 its great to see Tim and Missy back at it, 2 its cool to see 2 of the worlds best producers share the mic, Tim and Dre excellent! The song itself is down south slow. Rumbling bass and hard drums. JT handles the chorus and others each have a verse, its a song about SSSEEEXXXXX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. Come & Get Me (f. 50 Cent & Tony Yayo) - TIM-UNIT! Its a hip hop beat, hard drums but mostly vocalized. Its a gangsta gangsta type song but its not bad. Im not a big GUnit fan but 50 didnt mumble in this song so I like it.
7. Kill Yourself (f. Sebastian & Attitude) - This beat is kinda creepy. The beat is mostly gothic type vocalizing and pianos. But other than the beat this song isnt that special. The rappers are alright, but theyre nothing special either.
8. Boardmeeting (f. Magoo) - Ha, the intro is funny, Its Tim doing some old school rapping. Then the awesome beat kicks in. Its kinda like "Promiscuous" but with a little bit early 90s R&b sound in there. Magoo comes in and spits 8 bars, hes nothing special, and never was. But what makes this song enjoyable is the beat and Timbalnd's chorus.
9. Fantasy (f. Money) - This sounds like Ciara's "Promise" The beat slow like it with a little more synth and the girl sounds like her as well, just a little more annoying. I think I would like this song a little more if the singer didnt sound the way she does because everything else is good.
10. Scream (f. Keri Hilson & Nicole Scherzinger of PCD) - It has this weird "western showdown" sound too it. But Tim is known for using strange sounds in his beats and this is a hot beat. Its a very sensual song by these girls but I think they could have been better if they had a more radio friendly song. The beat doesnt go well with the topic. I dunno, this song makes me confused. I like it but then I kinda dont. (And Tim talking sexy at the end didnt help anything)
11. Miscommunication (f. Keri Hilson & Sebastian) - I think this song is gunna be like JT's "Summer Love" for me. First listen it wasnt that appealing, but the more I listen the more I like it. The beat rides a long synth that plays throughout the song (like "Summer Love" just a little slower). Tim starts off singing like its an oldie from the 70s, which is funny but I dig it. I enjoy Keri Hilson's part, and she carries majority of the song herself. And this is the end of the normal collabos, there are a few odd ones that follow.
12. Bombay (f. Amar & Jim Beanz) - If you thought that a couple of Tim's beat were sorta Indian-ish, there nothing compared to this song. Basically it IS an indian song. The beat starts off with indian vocalizing and music style. Then you got Indian singers!! YES!!!! I dunno I find meself laughing at this song but still bobbin' and dancing along. Its very catchy.
13. Throw It On Me (f. The Hives) - Yes, The Hives people! On a Timbaland production, trust me it only get better. Even tho it has The Hives it still uses some tencho synch in it, and the guitars remind me of a surf song. Its a very energetic, short and fast song. Expected tho with The Hives.
14. Time (f. She Wants Revenge) - If you like JT's "I Think She Knows" then youll prolly like this song. The guitars in it are very much alike. Im really feeling this song. Everything about this song works. #2 song for me.
15. One & Only (f. Fallout Boy) - Yep, F.O.B. are on the album too. Tim starts off singing something like its from Dance Dance. Then F.O.B. starts in. Hearing Patrick Stump's saying "Rock that smile, Ill knock your .... face" is funny because he ain't a tough guy. But honestly this song sounds like a F.O.B. song that doesnt even have Tim. (Except bits and pieces of the song) And WTF, does A.C. Lerock show up at the end? This song is garbage.
16. Apologize (f. OneRepublic) - How bout that. Yes its a remix. I liked the original so when I see this as a track I had to hear it. It comes off more as a R&b track. Its not bad, because the song is just too good.
17. 2 Man Show (f. Elton John) - I told you. Its odd. But its Elton John, and it isnt as bizarre as Elton and Eminem. Damn, Elton on the piano just kills this track. Its fire! Its mostly an instrumental with a chorus coming in once in awhile and Tim talking throughout.
Overall I'd give this album a 8/10. Some of the middle songs fall off for me because of the "gangsta-ness" of it. Which wasn't really necessary but the beats to those songs were still hot. While the beginning and end were strong. I think Tim has found a good style to experiment and expand with. I just wish the track with M.I.A. was included, and atleast a Utada appearence (because her style of production and his current one are kinda similiar). I wish Tim gave her more of a backing when she released Exodus. (neways o/t). I expect a dope Keri Hilson album soon as well, she has proven herself on this album. Solid production and solid supply of artist. Worth the purchase.
