teddy.nz
Please forgive me if talking about alcohol is against any rules...

Hey Manti, do u happen to know the percentage in yoghurt soju? and are there many flavours?
hershy kissez

eliza bennet
I'm not Korean and I have tried soju (the plain one in a small bottle with green leaves on it).

Actually I had with almost every dinner when in Seoul. It is not a heavy drink and goes great with beer too. The bad side of it is in the morning, I usually feel alright after drinking but with soju I felt bad.
clride
Soju tastes like detergent to me. But it keeps you so warm!
teddy.nz
Yea it has quite a strong after taste to it and could hardly be called a heavy drink... theres just something about it that makes it so great to drink ^ ^
Manti
mmm i think last time i checked its only 15% or 17% so its not 2 bad. mmm yeah theres heaps of flavas. like they hav 2 types bamboo the other is rice. they also go lemon flavour. nt sur bout the others though
GUCCI QUEEN
I can only drink a small cup full of it before I puke my insides out.
I prefer mehkju and makali.

hmm.. how do you know what detergent tastes like?
I've never had soju... I know it's not very strong but I'm always scared to try it because of those ppl on the tv shows who make those weird noise after they take a shot of it. I take shots of vodka but I don't sit there and make "monster" noises.. hehe.. I don't know how to describe the noise.
one_lub_4_eva
^ahahhaha monster noises!

i tried it. it's not THAT bad.. lol

what!???????? you hate kimchi??????? actually i used to not like it... but its grown on me.

and speaking of soju, it taste so good with food. like greasy bbq meat. like the pork one with the lettuce wrap. or with stew..

and it so cheap... in korea. but not very cheap imported.
Hiatus
im thinking of trying it for my 18. since it is legal to drink at 18 over here hehehe. but I dont know where I can find soju -__-" there's like no korean town or store as I know... and i dont think they would sale any at the morning glory shop LOL
InSong
soju with meat is soo yummy
oh so delicious
i've had it before but i don't really like the taste.
thatlittlegurl
i've always wondered what it tasted like because in the kdramas people drink it like nothing.

does it taste like vodka sorta? that's what i heard.

if it tastes like vodka then it doesn't taste very good. . .

unsure.gif
Amicus
i guess it kinda has a similar after taste.

vodka is potato based.

and soju is sweet potato based.

thatlittlegurl
oh i see

thanks for the clarification

My first time drunk was off soju, I didn't like it.. but the second time around, I loved it. Especially chamisul. To me, soju isn't about the taste, I love the fact that there is no after taste, and it goes down smooth. biggrin.gif
ginaz s t y l e

it's not heavy? hrm.. last time i checked, whats available in Australia is 23%-25% alcohol, im sure theres stronger ones existing. I know compared to vodka which is around 40% most of the time (unless you're in russia where you may get something stronger) i think it's quite heavy and hard on your liver. 1 bottle is enough for me. 2 = my dinner would be on the footpath.

I still drink it though.. regardles.. lol.. its pricey here though - AUS$18.00 a bottle...
compared to 1-2000 Won in Korea (AUS$1-$2.00).

I also like 설중매 seol joong mae. It's made out of plum. About 12-14%.. tastes sweeter (pictured below)

2 bottles made me tipsy but good (but I also drank a bottle of beer with those)

You may be right about the alchohol content. I meant "not heavy" I meant the taste. It is easy to drink it smile.gif

I too would like to drink it here but there are none in Istanbul.

Jang Pilmo
i have not tried it yet i always tell my mom to get me some soju from the korean store but she never does......
kittinexjj
ive only tried soju once, im really a big fan of rice wine though...but i do like the japanese rendition of sake, the pineapple and raspberry flavored ones are really yummy.
MzBeciko
ive never tried it
nara jjang
i read an article in a restaurant magazine that soju is being used as a subsitute of vodka to make cocktails etc. its cause some places don't have liquor licenses and soju doesn't count as a liquor so they can use it without spending a fortune o getting a liquor license.
o yea soju is good with sam gyub sal....yummy~
oona
Not many of them are familiar with soju, most of them probably heard of sake though.
wish*wish
I ddnt like the taste...even felt puking afterwards.
suelki-x3
