Artist: Maroon 5
Album: It Won't Be Soon Before Long
Release Date: May 22, 2007
1. If I Never See Your Face Again - Style starts off similair to their first album, just a little more fluid, then synth makes there way in and u can sorta see how the album is gunna turn, even they said this would be a little more like 80s Prince/Michael Jackson, than 70s Stevie Wonder/Motown of their last album. Fast tempo danceable song.
2. Makes Me Wonder - First single, and Im sure you've heard it already. Very funky, MJ style kinda song.
3. Little of Your Time - This song is a bit experimental when compared to the other stuff. Its very new wave sounding, and a little bit like something Gwen Stefani would do.
4. Wake Up Call - I like this song, Its got an awesome singalong type of groove. Something to style of "Through To You" or "Not Coming Home" from the last album. Best song on the album.
5. Won't Go Home Without You - Starts off pretty midtempo, The way the guitars goes makes me think of The Police "Every Breathe You Take" This song's verses sound like an 80s song while the chorus sounds more like a 50s pop song, maybe a bit of a throwback to their Kara's Flowers days, but thats what makes it good. Think of it as a sequel to "She Will Be Loved"
6. Nothing Lasts Forever - Spanish/Western guitar rhythm lead this song, but honestly its a bit of a bore compared the the other 5 songs on the album. Its not a bad song to see, just a bit montone.
7. Can't Stop - Good song, prolly the hardest sounding song on the album, or that they have done for the matter. Thats not to say its some hardcore metal screamo song, naw its just the drums hit harder and the guitars are louder and a bit more agressive.
8. Goodnight, Goodnight - A slow song, its kind of like a typical slow song from the 80s. But again the chorus sounds a bit like a 50s ballad.
9. Not Falling Apart - Another midtempo song, actually sounds like "Won't Go Home Without You" for the most part. Again its not a bad song, just feel a bit out of placed when compared to the other songs.
10. Kiwi - This song definatly sounds like a Prince song. Hard drums, funky guitars, goovey bassline, horn section, female vocals, and SEEEXXXX!!!! Dope song, watch out for the solo. I like the song alot.
11. Better That We Break - A slow song starting with piano chords. More or less something like a Gavin Degraw song.
12. Back at Your Door - This song sounds like a Isaac Hayes type of song. Its got a mixture of 50s guitar ballads, and 70s string driven love songs. But this is such a good song. Everything works well together.
13. Infatuation (Bonus Song) - Sounds alot like "Through With You" from the first album, just a little slower. Basically its kind of the same song structure.
Overall I really liked the album. The album doesnt stray to much to far away from the first album, so it wont leave fans confused with a sudden switch in style (coughlinkinparkcough) The album was definatly more polished than the first, its seems like they knew the style they were going for when they started writing the album. Some of the slower song seems to be out of place and kinda slows down the pace of the album, theyre not bad songs though. This album will sell like wild fire, be panned by critics and idiotics music snobs alike, make little girls swoon over Adam's look, make their boyfriends jealous but it still won't change that the album is fun and solid.
8.5/10
