Aziraphale
Hi guys,

I've noticed that people like to ask for suggestions or whatnot on gifts to give for different occasions, be it anniversaries, birthdays, Christmas, Mother's or Father's Day, gifts for friends, better halves etc. So this will be THE official gift thread in the L&R for all of you to ask for gift suggestions, and for those of you who have ideas to help out. All gift threads independent of this pinned topic will thereafter be closed, so please make use of this and don't start new gift topics.

Some guidelines for posting in this thread:

- all soompi & L&R rules apply
- be clear in what you're asking, so that people can help you as much as possible
- pictures are allowed, but try to limit them to a maximum of five
- if your query is better served in the Beauty and Fashion section, please post there instead
- do not quote pictures in your reply
- if you have nothing to contribute, don't spam this thread with useless replies
- once your request is fulfilled, please be nice and say thank you

If there are any questions, please PM me.

Cheers.

How lovely <3 I'll begin.
I don't have any requests, but rather-- I have suggestions if anyone is interested.
Although many people like to spend money on gifts, I think it to be true when they say that "it's the thought that counts." I also believe that bought-gifts do not mean any less than hand-made ones. However, hand-made ones tend seem more sentimental.

For any & all occasions:
- message in a bottle
- baked goods
- paper cranes or stars (with a message written inside)
you should say something along the lines of "can you unfold paper cranes without ripping them?" or else they may never open them, haha.
- homemade pillow or blanket, if you're the craftsy type
- compilation of fav songs in a CD or tape
- goldfish (real ones)

It's all about thinking outside of the box. Some prefer gift cards and lotion, but some like gifts out of the ordinary. One time I got a friend a trashcan for her room and filled it with candy, photographs, a stuffed animal, a picture book, and socks. She said that it was one of the best gifts she's received in a long time. Put some thought into it, and the ideas will come (:

i love how this thread was made EXACTLY when i needed it =)

does anybody have any ideas on what i should get for a graduation present?
one for a guy & one for a girl.
the guy is extremely kiddish & innocent.
and the girl is the preppy, cute type of girl.
what kind of gift would be good for the graduation present?

Guy... I'm not so sure. (I'm not good with getting guy presents)
Girl... you should get her something cute like the suggestions smooglez gave or, you can do what I did. For one of my friends, I made her a collage in a picture frame. She loved it! If you're really close with that person, it's very memorable and cute. You should put it in a nice picture frame too. You can also get flowers to give her on graduation.

Anyone help me? I'm stuck. My boyfriend and I have our one year at the end of the month. I've thought about it, but I'm not sure what to get him. There's this store and it engraves things. I found a small keychain watch thing that can also hold a small picture inside. He wanted a watch, so maybe this is better? But he might scratch it up... Ergh. crazy.gif Well, he might not if he knows how much it means or whatever.
Picture of keychain thing

Or... there's also this clock thing. It's sort of the same thing. It opens up and you can engrave it too.

I was also thinking a guy bracelet thing.

Anyways, you should make him something homemade if you're that close to him.
Buying things that can be bought anywhere seem to practical.

I don't know how many guys would actually carry around the keychain. o.O It seems more like a girl thing...
If it's not that much more expensive, I'd get him the bracelet. The clock is good too.
What do you think he would like? It's better to spend more on something that he'd love rather than spend less on something that he wouldn't love, but would just appreciate because it's from you...

This was my present for a certain someone. He graduated high school yesterday, but this doesn't have to be a graduation present.

I took pictures of places we had been together [with a digicam] and printed them out on postcard paper [err. part of this was just by accident, and the other part was on purpose]. In the "address" part, I wrote the place (i.e. So-and-so store on this-and-that street) and on the blank space, I wrote what we had done, or something random about the area.
Then I wrote a card where I wrote about how I would miss him, etc.

It's like a scrapbook...on a budget xD

My boyfriend and I will hit our one year very soon.
We're not big fans of giving material gifts, but for our one year I would like to
get him something nice. I was thinking a white gold bracelet, since he already has a chain.

Any ideas please feel free smile.gif
Thank you in advance

QUOTE(JamiexAi @ Jun 24 2007, 09:39 AM) *
for my 6-month with my boyfriend, I gave him

- a picture of him I drew (pencil), inserted in a cheap frame I bought (he really liked this one! and his friends were awed by it too)
- 180 stars (for each day we've been together) in a star jar (I got the paper and the jar from one of those korean stores that sell the cute korean stuff)
- a CD with two videos, one of me just being silly and another of me 'talking to him'

our relationship started off as a long distance one, so I had to mail it all to him, but everything was under budget and it all meant a lot to him! I thought the stars were a little cheesy but he told me he carried one with him when he went to rehearsals (he's a violist) to keep me by his side smile.gif

unfortunate he didn't get me anything, but I'm not mad. I'm just glad he liked my presents. He better get me an engagement ring or at least a promise ring the next time he comes to see me, though lol

Aww that is soo cute ! and VERY original ! happy.gif I think i will do the stars thing... maybe paper cranes or w.e. And a video of me talking to him and upload it on youtube with me looking pretty =] haha. This made me think alot of what i should give him soon. Its not the gift that counts right ? its the thought biggrin.gif

What can you get a guy that's not too girly (promise rings, scrapbooks) but not jewelry? T_T
wakaka*
For my one year I got him a bigggg glass bottle shaped like a wine glass and filled it up half-way with paper stars, turtles, cranes, and some pebbles. Then I wrote little messages of all the things we`ve done together (originally wanted to make 365 for every day we`ve been together but I didn`t really have time ><). I also wrote more messages and stuck them onto a piece of candy and put it in the jar. Everytime he`s sad, I make him eat the candy and read the message (: I only made a certain amount (his favourite number).. meaning that he can ONLY be sad for that many times a year hehe tongue.gif which isn`t a lot! As for the other messages, he could only open one for each period of time we haven`t see each other!

He also made me stars in a heart-shaped bottle, lolz! He then brought me to dinner at Bluewater Cafe in Yaletown and surprised me with a Tiffany ring during dessert >< He ordered a slice of cake and asked the waiter to put it on. I feel so bad =\

As for getting guys presents, I usually just get clothing like a Energie tshirt/T5S/JL shirts. Not very original, I know! Cologne can be kinda risky because it can smell differently on certain people. Most guys I know like surprises! Plan something, make something, or go visit him during work (:
joolee.
I need help! Okay, my six months for my boyfriend and I is coming up. We're planning to go out of the city for our six months. ^-^ I'm paying for my own expenses as well so I'm kind of on a budget. Well, I knitted him a scarf but it feels like something's missing. What else should I get him along with the scarf? Thanks in advance~

I am visiting my ex-bf (he is my best friend now), and I feel I should get him a present cause he's gonna sacrifise his room for me (he will be sleeping on the couch). And since we're in different cities now, he's gonna take me around and sorta be my tour guide. This will be a thank you present. I want something meaningful, tell him how much I appreciate him, and hopefully something small that he can bring around easily with him.

Any ideas? Nothing expensive please...I've spent a lot on air tickets.

I think even if he is a materialistic guy.
I am sure he would appreciate something from the heart, versus from your wallet.

Translation, the meaning behind something is more important.
Than how much it cost sleep.gif;;

So I cannot really suggest a gift to you but I am sure you can come up with something.

Money, wine, pretty picture frames...
HERMIT
Well, usually the bride and groom register at some stores and disclose this information on their wedding invitation for the guests to go out and shop there for their wedding gift.

Ask where they are registered at, obtain their 'wish list' from the registry desk in the store, and decide which item on the list you can afford to buy or would like to get for them and get it then.
jimmylim
people usually have a registry to save others from this. but if you're asking the question then i assume they didn't make one. since you're 16 i doubt they'd expect anything more than 20. they'll probably be moving to a new home so decorative stuff. you can get small crystal things for 20; i got a decent-sized xtal elephant at macys last xmas for 20.
chickyl3aby
when i think of weddings... i always think of toasters, blenders, etc... r they moving into their own house? that'd b a good idea... but u should check if they have a registestry!

my family always gives red envelops with money in it and jewlery.... (kids usually don't give those kinds of gifts tho..)
RawrDesu
personalize something for them! it's always the cutest presents ^__^ like a coffee cup and carve their names on it xD
monchichi
I always give money... o_o but then this is a vietnamese thing so, yeh...

I've seen some people give really cute box shaped photo albums? I think your sister would be happy with anything smile.gif
ahmong_
yep they are moving out.oh... im not sure if they have registry thing yet....................... haha she is just got proposed so i guess its coming?
~ BunnyliciouS ~
just wait till she has a wedding registry, and give her a gift card or anything from the registry that u can afford.

it's my boyfriend's 22nd birthday in less than two weeks and i'm torn between all sorts of gifts!

a long time ago, he said he liked the boxes inside boxes and it gets smaller and smaller. he said he'd be happy with just that, haha. i'm going to put packs of gum in there 'cause whenever I have gum, he always ask for some too so i'll *pretend* that's his present.

paper stars (his ex-gf made him straw stars), notes (i wrote him love notes before), scrapbooks (we don't have any pictures together) are great but i'm afraid he's not the sentimental type. i made him cupcakes for our sixth month anniversary and he didn't eat any of them. probably because he hates bread sad.gif but i really want to make him something to eat because he knows i can't cook so it'll show that i care smile.gif

i'm really stuck! i'm also getting him a polo from AE and some AE boxes ('cause i work there). it just seems like it's not enough! any ideas?
