It's the official cover since Amazon posted that picture as their cover.
http://www.amazon.com/Breaking-Dawn-Twilig...7837&sr=8-1And I think I'm the only one here who HATES the cover. It doesn't really go with the "theme" (I guess you can say it) of the previous covers for the books!
I hate the cover, too. It doesn't match with the other books ==' The only ones that I think match with each other are New Moon and Eclipse. Twilight and Breaking Dawn are two very different things from those two books.
I looked at the first chapter of Breaking Dawn at Chapters. There's a quote at the beginning of the novel that I was puzzled about. Here it is:
Childhood is not from birth to a certain age and at a certain age
The child is grown, and puts away childish things.
Childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies.
- Edna St. Vincent Millay I'm not sure what it means. Anyone want to decipher it?
FOR VANCOUVER PEOPLE:There's a midnight party for Breaking Dawn at Metrotown! One of the workers at Chapters told me people are going to dress up as vampires or werewolves for the celebration of Breaking Dawn. And apparantly, it's like a masquerade (I read that on the poster they had on the computer desk).

Hm, I think it fits the theme well. They are all black red and white... how does it not match?
I've thought of the cover of Twilight to mean something more like forbidden fruit (it reminds me of Snow White.. when she is offered the poison apple)... Eclipse is like breaking ties/bonds (with Jacob stuff?).... Breaking Dawn is like... CHECKMATE! haha (though I don't know chess so I'm not sure if it actually is) it looks like the pawn is sneaking up on the queen? Iono, I'll have to read it to figure it out... New Moon is the only one I can't really figure out how the book fits in with the cover.

May 31 2008, 05:13 PM
^I meant the theme. Eclipse and New Moon look very similar. Whereas Twilight and Breaking Dawn break apart from the similarity. I know Breaking Dawn's cover is symbolic, but I think the cover could be nicer. I'll probably grow fond of it the more I look at it in August, haha.
I think the ribbon also represents Bella's ties with her human life, not just Jacob.

^That's what happens when we have the same names, hahaha.
^^ Of course
Anyway, I think it is considered checkmate. I read on wikipedia (because I haven't played chess in a really long time) that the pawn can only move forward and can eliminate another piece by going diagonal once. Whereas, the queen can move anywhere and however many spaces (but it has to be one direction only). If the queen goes first, she can just move diagonal once, wait for the pawn to move forward to the black square, and then eliminate it. If the pawn goes first, then... well, it's the same thing. Either way, the pawn got owned.
I really hope that the queen is
Bella, haha. Edit: V The queen can move in any direction, but when a person is making a move, if he/she chooses to move the queen straight, then it has to keep going straight. It can't go straight, then diagonal in one turn. Sorry about the confusion.

Have you read New Moon?
Edward is described as perfect in Twilight because it's in Bella's perspective. When you like someone so much, you fail to see their flaws. However, Edward really isn't perfect. Examples of his flaws would be in New Moon and especially in Eclipse.
Twilight is more... like lust than love, actually. For the most part, Twilight was about how Bella and Edward attracted each other, whether it was looks, intriguing impression, and so on. However, in New Moon and Eclipse, you realize why she loves him (although, I have yet to discover why he loves her... because she has a ton of flaws).
And it wasn't bam he saved her and she fell in love. She was always interested in him before he saved her. That's why she keeps talking about Edward, wondering where he is and getting upset that he isn't at the cafeteria. If she wasn't watching him so intently--like a person would when they like someone--she wouldn't have
seen him run from one side of the parking lot to her car when Tyler's car was coming toward her.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned here or not.
In Breaking Dawn, Alec's power is revealed and it is essential to the battle! This is what SM said.
I wonder what his power is and what more is BATTLE? I think she's hinting the Volutri

Oh yeah on the topic of the meaning of the cover of Breaking Dawn I think it means:
The red pawn
(representing Bella in human form, alas Twilight cover, apple = Bella; Eclipse cover, ribbon = Bella unable to break away from her human life to vampire life)The white queen
(representing Bella in vampire form, Bella's frequent descriptions of vampires as, white, stone like, cold and strength)I don't think the cover's meaning is
Edward (the pawn) protecting Bella (the queen) - (Pawns in Chess protect the queen) , as many fans are thinking, as it wouldn't have a significant meaning to it. Coz we all know Edward would protect Bella at all cost, we don't need the last cover to reinstate that when it's been stated throughout the 3 other books

^Well.... that's like saying in every chapter: "I just went to the bathroom. I took the biggest crap." I don't really see having a period as a big deal. And Stephenie mentioned that it's dead blood, so it isn't as strong as the blood in her body. Edward's too much of a gentleman to tell her that he's uncomfortable and she's too embarrassed to ask.

About Alec's Power (which is to be revealed in Breaking Dawn).
SM hints this in New Moon.
I was re-reading New Moon again, when I read this part:
"Welcome back, Edward," Alec greeted him. "You seem in a better mood."
"Marginally," Edward agreed in a flat voice. I glanced at Edward's hard face, and wondered how his mood could have been darker before.
- New Moon, pg. 464
"Caius, surely you see the potential," Aro chided him affectionately. "I haven't seen a prospective talent so promising since we found Jane and Alec. Can you imagine the possibilities when she is one of us?"
- New Moon, pg. 477
A couple of pages back, Edward's face was hard and he complied to Jane and the Volturi's "request" to meet up with Aro.
Alec is described as Jane's twin
The pale boy in the pearl gray suit could have been Jane's twin.
- New Moon, pg. 464
I'm guessing that Alec formidable gifts that are somewhat greater than Janes'.
What are your thoughts?

I think what that quote meant was that Edward was
feeling all messed up and depressed that Bella died. I don't think the main theme of that quote was about Alec.
Bella doesn't realize that Edward wanted to kill himself for her, so she was probably confused as to why he would be "darker".
The fact that he was putting Bella's life into jeopardy by bringing her to the volturi was, in my opinion, what made him mad. So... it's not just Alec he was worried about. It was Volturi as a whole.
