Some common problems which users seem to be having. (This only affects a tiny portion of our community but it's often enough where I felt the need to make this announcement).
Seeing the backup running page when it isn't.
Seeing database error messages when there isn't one.
Seeing basically any thing else other than the forums when trying to access the forums.
First thing to keep in mind is that sometimes the above messages are actually legitimate and are shown to ALL users. The following only pertains to those who see the above messages when for others it is working perfectly fine. Another scenario may be when it works for you from one location but not another. Please note that this also only applies when it happens ALL the time. Sometimes we do get small "hiccups" in the system and you may see these errors for a brief/short period of time.
The single/sole reason this happens is because the error messages are CACHED. What this means is that either your web browser OR a proxy server used by your isp, school, work, etc is NOT updating the changes. If this is caused by your browser, then simply deleting your browser cache (temporary internet files) will resolve the issue. However, I've noticed that in many cases these stale pages are cached by a proxy server. If that is the case then there is NOTHING we or you can do until those proxy servers decide to update their cache. Ideally, proxy servers should be configured to always look for changes but sometimes they can be configured to only check periodically. Once again, there is NOTHING we or you can do about it. It is what it is. You may say "I don't use a proxy server". That is not necessarily true because many isp, school, and work networks use transparent proxies which you are not aware of. I think many people either don't know what a proxy server is or misunderstand it to be something you have to manually configure in your browser for a way to anonymously surf web sites. Whether you are aware of it or not, this IS why you see the problems mentioned above.
