"I can't believe this. This is the worst idea in the history of cinema. This is a tragedy. This is evil. In a sea of recent movie remakes, both good and bad, there is one movie that should never be touched. EVER. And yet, Variety reports that Warner Independent Pictures is planning a remake of Enter the Dragon. Enter the frickin' Dragon! This cannot be. I don't want to believe it: Warners to remake 'Enter the Dragon'. Kurt Sutter will write and make his feature directing debut on Awaken the Dragon, "a noir-style remake" of Enter the Dragon, the 1973 martial arts classic that made Bruce Lee an international star. It'll be produced by John Wells, and original movie producers Fred Weintraub and Paul Heller. The bastards. Here are some details:

Sutter said he's writing "Awaken the Dragon" as a contemporized drama about a lone FBI agent who pursues a rogue Shaolin monk into the bloody world of underground martial arts fight clubs.

Original film starred Lee as a martial artist who's drafted by law enforcement to participate in a martial arts tournament and infiltrate a drug smuggling operation run from the host's heavily guarded island.

"I'm a huge noir fan, and this plot lends itself to the film I want to make," Sutter said. "I wanted to set it in these underground fight clubs where the action is really raw and expose the brutality of Shaolin kung fu. This will be more 'Raging Bull' than 'Crouching Tiger' in its viciousness."

Sutter will look to discover a fight star in the role of the monk and cast an established American actor to play the FBI agent.

Noir? This doesn't sound anything like film noir. Does this Sutter guy even know what the hell he's talking about? It sounds like a steaming pile of crap. How many suck-ass 1980s direct-to-video action flicks have been set in "the bloody world of underground martial arts fight clubs." For that matter, hasn't Enter the Dragon already been remade (and when I say remade, I mean ripped off) countless times over the last 30 years? In everything from Bloodsport to the upcoming Balls of Fury? Hell, Jean-Claude Van Damme is responsible for half of them. We do not need an Enter the Dragon remake. This is just a ridiculous attempt to cash in on the legacy of the original.

In the name of all that is good and decent in the world, do not do this. No doubt, Sutter's plans for "an established American actor" probably means a "white actor." Never mind that what was so appealing about the original movie was Bruce Lee himself. The guy was an amazing onscreen presence—a phenomenal martial artist, but just as impressive when he wasn't doing martial arts. That's what set him apart. And consider the symbolic, historic impact of Enter the Dragon, as strange as that sounds... an Asian man kicking ass in a Hollywood movie? Unheard of. Revolutionary. Life-changing. I know I'm sounding excessively dramatic, but this remake is a horrible idea. I shake my fist at you, Warner." - http://angryasianman.com/angry.html

That's a silly idea. That's like trying to remake The Godfather. You can't just remake a classic like this. People should just watch the original. Everyone knows Bruce Lee anyway.
80slitenite
NOOOOOO! that's exactly what i said outloud when i read the title. freakin crazy. bunch of lazy asses just tryin to make a buck off another mother f'in remake. and who do they think they are going to get to play Bruce Lee? as a big Bruce Lee fan this blasphemy.
jicks
OMFG

Normally I really don't mind the remakes because I like to see how they stuff it up but this is one I can't believe they even would even dare think about remaking let alone actually go to do it.

And this noir-style plan... gosh I hope they don't make themselves look like complete fools but it's not sounding too promising ATM. I am extremely curious as to who they will cast though...

oh dear lord sweet baby jesus..say it ain't so.

please if there is one movie that escapes the greedy hands of the ''remakers'' let it be this one. why would they do such a thing. Bruce Lee is probably rolling over in his grave at this news.

i know..how 'bout nobody go to see it..that will send them a message. sleep.gif

HONG KONG - Bruce Lee's classic 1973 film, "Enter the Dragon," will be remade by Warner Bros.

The remake, to be titled "Awaken the Dragon," will be written and directed by Kurt Sutter, producer of "The Shield" TV series. It will be released by Warner Independent Pictures.

In an e-mail Thursday to The Associated Press, Warner Bros. publicist Laura Kim said the movie will tell the story of an FBI agent who investigates a Shaolin monk and underground kung fu fight clubs.

China's Shaolin Temple is renowned for its martial-arts tradition.

Kim declined to reveal the casting choices, budget or shooting schedule.

Lee played a kung fu fighter who infiltrates an island occupied by a rogue martial arts artist in "Enter the Dragon."

He died in 1973, at 32, from swelling of the brain.

Lee was known for movies in which he portrayed characters that defend the Chinese and the working class from oppressors.

He was born in San Francisco but grew up in Hong Kong, where he made his name as an actor.

Not sure if I'm happy about this.

Um.

Why?

I'm not even a big fan of kung fu movies and I still loved this film. Does not need to be remade.
This is just weird.

How much you want to bet, they'll mess it up. I mean who can replace Bruce Lee??
Special Ed
Whats up with all the asian film remakes these days?? Yes its nice that asian cinema is getting noticed by the American public, but the only thing the audience will notice is the remade film, not the original. Thats why I hate remakes.

I personally don't really like the idea of remaking this film since, c'mon! Bruce Lee was in it!!
deeLOVELY
Hollywood is running out of ideas
they should just publish the original sleep.gif
<3goesDOKIDOKI
dont want this to happen
it'll be so cheesy

bruce lee was a legend!
he was friends with my grandpa hehe
Lana
Uuummm, I dont think they should touch that one.

Alright usually I dun care about remakes
......but they are crossing the line big time.

I can't even fake like I'm okay with this
I freakin love this movie, especially when he kills that guy that made his sister killed herself.

I am upset
my day is ruined

Bruce Lee was the best fighter on the planet, poetry in motion no one can even come close to his skills
he owns everyone from Jackie to Jet li and so on, I have such a great amount of respect for this man.

OMFG.. damn Americans and their lame attempts to Americanize everything... how could they??!!!! killing the bruce lee legacy... URGH!!
monchichi
The angry asian man article made me laugh...

BUT - I agree with everyone. Leave Enter the Dragon alone!! I grew up on Bruce Lee!! Don't fix what's not broken!! sheesh.

Where has all the creativity gone? There's too many remakes out there, it's getting sickening and boring.

I turn my back on english cinema and will immerse myself in the creativity of asian movies and dramas.
BabyK
Duuuuude! why can't they just leave it alone =.=;; You can't beat the classic wit Bruce Lee!
TimmyYayo
alright, now we're gunna remake scarface! ready, wait. more americanized...let's put in an american actor instead.
