You can try reading all of Amy Tan books she usually write base on asian culture
here are the list of books she wrote:
* The Joy Luck Club (1989)
* The Kitchen God's Wife (1991)
* The Hundred Secret Senses (1995) (Shortlisted for the 1996 Orange Prize)
* The Bonesetter's Daughter (2001)
* Saving Fish from Drowning (2005).

the most popular one is The Joy Luck Club really awesome book I read. In high school I also read another book called "Farewell to Manzanar" by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston. It's mostly about a Japanese girl going through the time of WWII and stuff really interesting book

hope it helps u a bit biggrin.gif

Memoirs of a Geisha was one of the best books I've ever read featuring Asian characters, but it's not by an Asian author though sweatingbullets.gif.

atm i'm reading lost names by richard kim, its an inspiring book about a young boy through his identity struggles, as the japanese take over the korean region, causing his family to change names and to that matter, i think its quite a good read.

I read a book similar to that. But it's about a girl and her family. I forgot the author but I think the title of the book was "When my name was Keiko".

Chinese Cinderella and Falling leaves by the same author. Falling Leaves is about the same girl, but it follows her through her adulthood. Pretty sad, but it's a happy ending.

Lian Hearn - Across the Nightingale Floor

Toto-chan - Tetsuko Kuroyanagi

[] Chinese Cinderella - Adeline Yen Mah
[] Falling Leaves - Adeline Yen Mah
[] Snow Flower and the Secret Fan - Lisa See
[] Peony In Love - Lisa See
[] Bound Feet & Western Dress - Pang-Mei Natasha Chang
[] A Single Square Picture - Katy Robinson

And, of course...books by Amy Tan.
Aziraphale
Kazuo Ishiguro:
- A Pale View of the Hills
- An Artist of the Floating World

Most, if not all of Haruki Murakami's books deal with quirky characters in a Japanese setting.
