Im planning on going out to eat at a Korean or Japanese restaurant next weekend
I dont know what to order in a Korean restaurant? Ive only eaten it one time, it was a Korean barbecue, when they bring this hot metal thing to your table and you cook your own meats, any other suggestions?
when I go to Japanese restuarants I like to eat the bento box combination
what would you order?

It's difficult finding a dish to eat at a Korean restaurant if you're a vegetarian.
If not, then why not?
Personally, I prefer Japanese restaurants because of the ambience (in most cases)
and I find the food more aesthetically pleasing, not to mention the taste.
I mean, Korean food is good and all but I feel sometimes, it's too heavily marinated
with sauce and everything starts tasting the same after a while. Korean food is too
spicy and red =X

I like korean style chinese food, like jajjangmyun and tangsuyuk @_@ my two favorites =D~
korean restauraunts are good to eat with a lot of close friends ^^ you all share and have a lot of socializing going on...
japanese food is too little and not as friendly? does that make sense? @_@;;

Both are good, though at Korean restaurants people have difficulty choosing out a meal that'll fit their tastes because the first thing that pops into non-Koreans minds are BBQ and kimchi.

So, they usually only order that.
I think Japanese cuisines fit the American taste bud better.
Unless you have a Korean friend that can introduce you to other fine Korean dishes.

both sounds good. I usually go to Japanese, and been to Korean bbq once, so I'd personally like to try more authentic Korean food.

My friends love japanese food so we tend to go to japanese restaurants more, but I prefer korean food since I can't eat any meat that's raw... I did swallow a raw oyster in one of the kimchi dishes once accidently though, and I almost threw up afterwards since it was slimy and squishy when it was moving on my tongue..

thats a hard decision, i love both types.
i would get:
korean restaurants- beef tongue(really good!), the regular beef ribs, orchapchae (vegetable noodles)
japanese restaurants- sushi!!!lol, salmon teriyaki, or zarusoba.
i guess for me it depends on what i'm in the mood for.
ooh topped a page.

I agree, japanese food is a lot more mild than korean food. I was watching an episode of anthony bourdain (s/p) when he was in new jersey, and he want to a korean restaurant and the way he explained the difference was that korean food is like japanese food with balls, lol
anywho, it really depends on what your craving. I would say wait until the day you want to go out. If you feel like eating more mildly flavored (but still delicious) food, then go to a japanese place, if you're craving something with more of a punch, then go to a korean place. Just ask the waiter for help on what to choose, they are really happy to help you pick something suited to your tastes.
On a personal level, I say go for the korean restaurant! I love the flavors in the food (both strong and mild), japanese food usually leaves me wanting something more, lol

i think it's easier to find good korean restaurants than good japanese restaurants. not really just because i live near a lot of korean restaurants, but because that's just the way it is. it's easy to get mediocre sushi or ramen or whatever... but korean food is pretty consistently good, even if you're going to some hole-in-the-wall restaurant. i label a japanese restaurant as "good" if at the end of the meal i'm not wishing i had gone for korean food instead. but usually with japanese or chinese or thai food, i'm thinking that i wish there was kimchi. but on the japanese side... i love very, very fresh sushi.

I've only been to a Japanese restaurant [[which I went to for the first time on the 19th]], so i'll say that. But i wouldn't mind going to a Korean restaurant one day.
((When I went to the Japanese restaurant they were playing all Korean music though which I thought was odd but cool haha. I recocnized all the songs which made me happy though [and got me weird looks from my friends who think it's weird i like music not in english when i said "homg i know this song! xD" after every song came on haha]))

japanese restaurants i find are more formal settings whereas korean restaurants are more cosy and warm and loud
it is very hard to find a Good Japanese restaurant as to have good japanese food u need fresh ingrediants and fast skillful chefs who don't handle raw meat too long just to make it look good
korean food i find is all premade so there is no worries in having raw meat being handled with by the chef for 15+ minutes
overall i prefer japanese restaurant more but in a country where its hard to find good chefs I'd stick with korean food

japanese restaurants.
It's because I have been in those restaurants all of my life.
And I'm really bad with spicy and extreme sweet food so korean food isn't my taste.

Japanese food is good, but it isn't exactly...satisfying? I don't know. It tastes good, but it doesn't feel like a full meal--more like a snack or light lunch.
Korean is much better for dinner because its so warm and inviting. Believe it or not, most Koreans don't eat stuff like kalbi and dukpoki every day--a usual meal consists of rice and small side dishes with some kind of light soup. And I don't know what you think, but in my opinion Korean food is much lighter than most American foods. In fact, that's the main reason we have trouble adapting to western diets.
