I'm very pleased to see Native American celebrities. Although I am not Native, I feel that it is quite important that every ethnicity gets proper recognition.
They look so strong

Yes! They are underrated. I do love when they play Indians, but I hate when that's all they're restricted to.

Gorgeous.

WOW! you know what I have not seen a native movie in such a long time.... I mean wassup??? they use to do cowboys and indians and now that we are in the 2000 I don't see anything anymore.... They need to bring it back.
It's sad that there are a few left that is 100% pure Native Indian.... I'm still glad that their kind are still around.

Those cowboy and indian movies suck - they were filled with chauvinistic stereotypes, And what do you mean "their kind"? You're not talking about extinct animals here
Anyway,
great thread! My mother is "100% pure" (

) native american

Keep it up ~

I don't think you meant any harm just worded this not very well. Anyway those were Hollywood productions and for some time they had white people play natives. If you look for native movie then here are 2 I can suggest. You might have to buy them on-line because they are not popular and might be hard to find at rentals or stores.

It's nice to see this thread. I'm going to add stuff. To avoid any hurt feelings or controversy, especially since I heard from both sides while visiting New Mexico a few years ago--I don't say Indian OR Native American--unless the person I'm speaking to corrects me. Some people are very proud to be called Native American--while others look at it as a 'guilt term' given to them by 'white' people long ago--and don't like it--and would rather be called Indian. In Canada, native peoples are called aboriginals (or First Nations/Indigenous), and that and 'Native' is what I use most of the time. Not that there aren't American actors who take diverse parts here in the US--but it's more common to see Aboriginals all the time in Canada, not only as actors--but in other jobs, like the media. Being so close to Canada, most of the actors I know of are Canadian. Many of them may look familiar.
and yes, Adam Beach is Native. He's Saulteaux, and from Manitoba. Google to see other pics, including before the haircut ones. His hair has been long for so long, I went O_O when I saw it short. lol He's also on Law & Order (SVU) now, too.
I have to edit, but meanwhile some non-stereotypical movies (not only because he is in them, but because they're good) Plus this one was written by a local Native author (it was a book first--just about anything made by Chris Eyre from one of his books will be good):

With Irene Bedard and Evan Adams, who is actually a medical doctor now.

Michael Greyeyes (dancer and choregographer as well as actor)

Tantoo Cardinal

Floyd Red Crow Westerman

Graham Greene
Michael Spears has already been posted--but his brother is an actor too~

(from Black Cloud)

Nathaniel Arcand (Canadian. also in Black Cloud , Johnny Too Tall, and Skins-link posted by eledoremassis02 )

Sheila Tousey (American), pic credit PBS

Gordon Tootoosis (Canadian)
there's lots more.
I wanted to mention these, too (also done by Chris Eyre, Robert Redford produced)-- Wes Studi and Adam Beach are the leads in these dramas made from author Tony Hillerman's books--

http://www.amazon.com/Thief-Time-Gary-Farm...3285&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.com/Mystery-Coyote-Waits...3285&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.com/Skinwalkers-Apesanah...3614&sr=1-1
Wes Studi plays Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn, and Adam Beach is Navajo Tribal police officer and medicine man in training Jim Chee.

Nice input. What you wrote holds true on regarding the western hemisphere. another term, usually used by native american expats abroad in the eastern hemisphere, is Red Indian - which is what my mother refers to herself as (& we live in Dubai) - to avoid any confusion in terminology with Indians (as in South Asians) and US citizens
