Three-time Oscar®-nominee Frank Darabont ("The Green Mile," "The Shawshank Redemption") reunites with horror-master Stephen King to write and direct this chilling adaptation of the author's original short story. Following a violent thunderstorm, artist David Drayton and a small town community come under vicious attack from creatures prowling in a thick and unnatural mist. Local rumors point to an experiment called the ‘The Arrowhead Project' conducted at a nearby top-secret military base, but questions as to the origins of the deadly vapor are secondary to the group's overall chances for survival. Retreating to a local supermarket, Drayton and the survivors must face-off against each other before taking a united stand against an enemy they cannot even see!

# Thomas Jane as David Drayton.
# Marcia Gay Harden as Mrs. Carmody: An outspoken member of the trapped group who causes its division
# Andre Braugher as Brent Norton: A high-powered attorney who owns a weekend home in the Maine town
# Laurie Holden as Amanda Dumfries
# Toby Jones as Ollie Weeks: The supermarket manager
# William Sadler as Jim Grondin
# Frances Sternhagen as Irene
# Jeffrey DeMunn in an unnamed role.
# Amin Joseph as Machen.

Watching the film in b&w is bloody brilliant. It still doesn't stop the fact that Marcia Gay Harden's character is off-the-wall annoying, in and out of color.

I really wanted to see this.
Stephen King IS unbelievably overrated, though.

I also thought this movie was pretty good.
I hated that lady who keeps on preaching, forgot what her name was.
I also hated one of the mechanics (the white dude).
The ending made me furious though.

This movie just came out on DVD and I rented it last night..and I hate it!
The preaching lady was annoying. I would of shot her in the beginning already. How dare she preach about things to people when she is doing the exact same thing. Grr..she got to me.
Also, the boy was annoying. Stop crying already! Geez.
I knew there was something fishy about the military and their involvment with the mist. C'mon now...the 3 military men stuck in the store didn't help in any way with what was happening in the store. You knew something was up....
On top it all, the ending SUCKED big time. Why would you shoot anyone? I say at least wait to see if the monster/creature is anywhere closer and if so then go ahead, but if it ain't that close just hold off on it. You never know....
Sad that he survived at the end like that....
This movie is so stupid! I hated it!

The ending is a moral dilemma. You have to look at it from the characters point of view, how it all came down, from the beginning of the film to the end.
"Happy" endings that go about it in a stupid way are weak.

i was kinda disappointed when i finished watching this movie. it wasn't that scary as i've expected it would be. the storyline was so dragging... and i hated the friggin' preaching lady that just won't stop talking about religion. and the ending was... blah. but that's what you would expect from a stephen king's novel...

The Darabont ending is different from King's novella ending.

I can look at it from the characters' point of view, but still...does it really have to be like that? Throughout the whole movie it was just dragging and when it finally reached the end where he shot everyone I felt upset. I, myself, would not do it. I guess its different for everyone in certain situation, but it would be hard either way....

i don't think the movie is draggy, in fact i love the idea how Marcia Gay's character can make people goes against each other to the extend of killing just in order to survive. it's like end of the world and everyone start to believe in God again.
the ending is just awesome! i have to agree with res0nate, you really have to see it from the character's point of view. to them they believe that there are no ways out from the situation, and for this reason they end up making that one decision.
anyway, i recommend the movie to all my friends and they love it too!

Marcia Gay Harden's character, hated her guts.
The ending was OMFG!!! But I guess it was brilliant.
I wonder how I would have acted if I was put in that situation. Would I have followed the crazy lady and killed the army guy? I don't think so...but I guess I would never know. --

i watched this last week.
it's a very good movie -- the creatures are very well made and are really from "another world"
i don't like stephen king's writing so i can only like the movie so much
- king's writing tends to overdramatise emotions. but this is precisely where today's world is returning to. and the movie does an excellent job f portraying what really happens when emotions grip those around you. your world turns upside down. the movie teaches this lesson really very very well.
many people say the monsters in the movie are not the true monsters. this is a very good observations.
- the ending: captures what i wrote above very well. actually i would like to see a sequel and it is possible this movie could become like Alien and Aliens.

I liked this movie

. I wasn't like in awe or wondering what was going to happen because I read the story before but the ending was like...holy crap. I would still choose suicide after that :/.
The religious lady was INSANE. But awesome in a creepy way. Hahaha.
The monsters in the movie though ALL connect with
King's Dark Tower series. And I'm so excited because the painting that guy was painting earlier in the movie sort of depict that they're going to turn THOSE into movies soon too. Can't waaaait.

Funny that I find this thread RIGHT after randomly watching this movie again. Good story about what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real...haha jk
But seriously, a good movie testing what occurs when fear dominates and controls people's actions and distort people's perspectives

This is one of my favorite movies. It made me cry so much at the end. T_T
Cause the ending is like woah O__O You'd never expect it.
Yeah, it really teaches you how people become in a crisis situation.
Groups form and people go against each other.
Us humans are so stupid. : D

this movie was sooooo good but th end kind of pissed me off when the father killed his son and elderly couple they were traveling with and this woman b/c they though that they couldn't get out of the mist but then the missed cleared and you see the military carrying the other people that were also in the mist at first i was mad at how it ended but if you've ever read a steven king book it didn't really suprise me b/c there's always this element of suprise with him
