which asian popstar (korean, chinese, japanese) do you think is the most popular among asia or internationally?

i think BoA.... pretty much every asian person knows who BoA is. even caucasians have heard of her. BoA is everywhere!

i think utada hikaru. everyone knows her ;D from video games and such

^ I think Hikki is pretty famous as well, all the anime and video game fanboys know of her as well lol.
I don't think she likes being labeled as a popstar though...

Bi/Rain is, I think. HUGE in Korea, HUGE in Taiwan, and probably pretty popular in Japan. He's also well-known enough in the US to have a US tour.

First person that came to mind was Bi.
But I have to agree with BoA. And Utada too, because Japanese stuff is really in "style" now so more people in the States know of her too from like anime...

I'd say the Korean stars you guys are naming are more popular in Asia (and other ASian countries), but Japanese artists are usually more popular/well-known/heard-of in the western world...

BoA is only known in Asia... not many American producers
or directors in music are familiar with her yet because she
hasn't had any involvement in the US so far. Bi on the other
hand is more exposed and not to mention, he's one of the top
stars whom are recognized in practically ALL of Asia.

I have no idea about the whole world, but if it's limited to in asia, and if we face this question just literally, woudn't the answer definitely be one of the chinese/taiwanese singers ? Consider the number of chinese ppl! :0 They're probably more than half of the whole asian ppl and if i'm not wrong chinese ppl are all around in south east asia as well as the mainland, hk, and taiwan so i think it would definitely be a chinese/taiwanese popstar.

But if it's limited to among east asia only, i mean china, taiwan, hong kong, japan, and korea, and if we ignore the difference of number of the populations of each, then i think the answer would be either japanese or korean artist, such as BoA, Bi, Hamasaki, Utada etc. As for chinese/taiwanese popstars such as Jay Chou, Leehom, SHE etc, well i don't know how famous they are in japan but i'm pretty sure they're not yet really wellknown in korea. I bet most krns haven't even heard of their names. I myself didn't know about any of them either until i became a soompier. :0

Bi is definitely one of the most popular..

Looking at East Asian countries, Ayumi Hamasaki is definitely more popular/well-known than BoA, because she was the top Japanese female artist (other than Hikki) at the height of the Japan craze. I don't have any website link to provide but her albums sell more than BoA's in Taiwan and Singapore.

Ayumi consistently gets #1 albums in thr Chinese markets, but I think it's due to the fact that she actually promotes her albums/singles there as well. Whereas...BoA has been to China...Not so many times lol. Not to mention Ayu is already a veteran.
Like I said before, [I think] the Korean/Chinese/Taiwanese artists are bigger in the Eastern hemisphere, but the Japanese artists are usually more famous in the Western world for their tie-ins with anime, video games and whatnot. I have no doubt that Hikki is probably the most well-known Japanese artist here in the States thanks to KH and KH2, and now Evangelion .
It's harder to find kpop/mandopop/cantopop lovers in certain regions, but you'll always find video game/anime lovers .

I seriously think BoA is becuase I found out about BoA from my white friends and it was getting soo annoying that one day I listened to her and I instantly fell in love with her. I think its true that Japanese singers are VERY well known in the Western world, such as Ayumi and Hikki. Since you know....there are ALOT of anime freaks and that links to Japanese singers, even games too.

Definitely Bi/Rain (When Full House came out, i practically saw and heard ppl talking 'bout him everywhere ) i think he's gonna debut soon in the u.s. (in a movie that's coming out, too) he's even had some concerts in us and obviously, he's BIG in asia.
BoA- definitely one, too! practically everyone who listens to asian music (esp. japanese./kor.) has heard of heard at some time.
Se7en- imo, he's possible second after rain for most popular male korean artist. some ppl think he's like the asian usher (plz don't argue or take offense over this)
Ayumi- who hasn't heard of her if they listen to japanese music? plus, she's probably one of the most famous japanese singer other than hikki. plus, she's like the idol of fashion (esp. lolitas?) in japan.
Lar en ciel, Hyde, Gackt- sorta like ayumi, i guess. seems like everyone who listens to japanese music (esp. jrock) knows them.
Utada Hikaru- Hikki sings in a lot of animes & games. i remember when i heard her song in KH. she's also been here quite a while (since 1999? not sure 'bout ayumi tho). plus, her voice is VERY unique compared to other japanese singers. (that's y i likey her )
High & Might Color & UVERworld- anime (i think bleach?)
Jay Chou and Wang Lee Hom- whenever i think of mandarin music, i think of these two. they're both multi-talented: composes, sings, plays several instruments, and acts. (Lee Hom was in a movie with hyde and gackt: moon child)
f4, S.H.E.- obviously both VERY well known

Andy Lau - Known absolutely everywhere in Asia...as an actor and singer!~His movies are well know in the West as well! (Like Infernal Affairs, House of Flying Daggers...etc)
And Bi/Rain...he popped into my mind as well!

But to be honest, this is quite vague...because it really depends on the age...e.g. my dad doesn't know who BoA is...but he'll know who Andy Lau is...
And my little niece who's twelve, may know BoA but not Andy Lau...!
It really just depends in my opinion...

I guess if you're going to talk about just actual fans in general, then yeah...It has to be Jackie Chan lol. I'm pretty sure just about everyone in the USA knows who he is, and pretty much everywhere else in the world.
