Charice: As of now, all I can say is that I am still continuously pursuing my passion which is singing. Of course, I would also love to penetrate the international market and be recognized outside the Philippines - that’s one of my dreams that’s why I’m still keeping my fingers crossed to achieve that goal. Charice: I actually don’t know how I would answer that. But going international really excites me.

Asianbuzz: Gifted with such wonderful voice, who would you dream of having a duet with?
Charice: Whoah! I am dying to meet and sing with Whitney Houston. She’s like my greatest musical influence since ages ago. Hmm..who else? I also like to have a duet with Beyonce, maybe not only sing with her but also shake a booty with her. (laughs). I also would so love to sing opera with Andrea Bocelli.

Asianbuzz: If you’d have to learn another language for your career, which language would you select?
Charice: Hmm… maybe Korean. I don’t know, there’s something with they way they talk that really sounds good to my ear.

Asianbuzz: Your fans really want to know about your experience flying to Korea for Star King. Can you give us a recap from the arrival to departure? (Can you share some photos with us? )
Charice: When I arrived at the airport, a group of Koreans approached me and asked me if I were a celebrity. Then of course, I said no and that I was from the Philippines and was only visiting their country. Then they said I looked like one and they thought I was a Korean too. Maybe because of my eyes? (laughs)… I stayed in a hotel and did some practice for the song that I sung. The next day was the performance day. It was actually fun. I got to meet a lot of Korean stars. I even saw the Kim Jung-Eun. I used to watch her before because Lovers in Paris was shown here before in the Philippines.

Asianbuzz: Can you describe your experience for the taping of Star King? Can you share some interesting or funny things that happened behind the scenes? We thought you did great despite having language barriers with Koreans
Charice: The taping was fun. The audience really surprised me. They were like rocking the whole studio every performance they saw. Of course, I was happy that I got the loudest cheers and yells. It really boosted my confidence to really sing my heart out. Behind the scenes? Hmm, I had a translator which was my first time to experience; I mean that kind of exchanging thoughts and stuff. It was really fun.

Asianbuzz: Did you know about Super Junior before you met them? What are your thoughts about them? (The fans are gushing that you met them : ) )
Charice: No, I didn’t know anything about them, honestly. But before I went on stage, I kind of wanting to meet them face to face because of the things that my translator had been telling me about them. That they are very big in Korea. Finally, I had the chance to meet them after the taping. They were all nice but I must say KyuHyun really stood out because he was the one who was always smiling and talking to me.

Asianbuzz: Some source state that you will be signing up as SM Entertainment’s trainee. Is there any truth to this? If so, can you share more details?
Charice: Hmm…Yes, they did ask me to join them but it still seems far-fetched as of now because I’m still a contract artist with a local label here and it will be until May 2008 that my contract ends. So that only means that I can’t sign up with another talent agency AS OF NOW.

Asianbuzz: Your popularity has reached the US at some level partly because of YouTube. What are your thoughts on that?
Charice: I’m really happy. I never thought I would be recognized outside my country. Of course, I have to thank the person who started it all for me in the cyber world – FalseVoice of YouTube. You should keep on watching his channel if you want to watch more of me.

Asianbuzz: Any upcoming projects that you want to share with your fans?
Charice: In June, I went to Sweden to record some songs that will be released digitally. I still don’t know when it will be released. I’ll keep ya’ll posted.

haha. judging from that interview, she's still in her local company until may 2008. this girl is born to be a solo-ist. people are put in groups because they lack something, they can dance but not sing as well or the other way around. this girl is not lacking in any department. imo, she excels in vocals, confidence, energy, charisma(got the crowd pumping) and judging from the star king clip she knows how to dance fairly well. haha. dancing's not that important anyway. it's the vocals that amazes me x]

I guess it's because of Regine Velasquez. She started it all. Historians would agree to me.

After winning a big Asian singing contest before, she made a remark on our Philippine standards of a diva--high note hitting belters who can 'sing' (but not necessarily move). Almost every amateur singing contest participants here in the Philippines would answer "Regine Velasquez" if they asked about the singer who inspired them to pursue a singing career. All thanks to Regine Velasquez. Now, we have tons of singers who are equally good and, yes, better than Regine Velasquez :-D

she is known outside the philippines i hope she will continue being recognized in other countries coz she's damn talented and i don't know she can dance.. hahaha...

We all know that Charice should feel flattered and immediately grabbed the offer of SM Entertainment for her to join them but I must say that Charice being an SM talent is close to impossible.

It's not because SM will give on her but it's because Charice won't accept the offer.

Sad to say, in the Philippines, most people don't know the Influence of SM Entertainment nor are Filipinos aware of the popularity of BoA, TVXQ and Super Junior. When you say SM, people will think of a very famous group of Department stores / Malls called SM. When you say BoA, peole will think you're talking about a reptile. When you say TVXQ or SuperJuniors, people will look at you with a blank face.

Philippines are not really into Asian Pop. We're more of Western Pop. The ONLY Asian Pop Artists who made it in the Philippines is the Group F4. All Filipinos know F4. If you don't know F4, you'll be considered weird. Filipinos once went wild over F4. Oh, I can still remember the chaos F4 caused in 2003.

Once, ABS-CBN, the station Charice said she joined a singing contest, tried to make RAIN / Bi popular by showing a documentary of him being in Hollywood on primetime. Unfortunately that didn't make him popular. The fact that documentary dubbed him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world didn't impress the Filipinos. He is still being known as 'Justin', his character in Full House when it was shown here but not as "Rain", the singer/dancer.

It's hard to live in the Philippines when you're an Asian Pop fan. It's hard showing your excitement towards your fave Asian Singers. There are only few Filipinos who're into Asian Pop and we're being considered weirdo when we share our fangirliness to others.

So...I think that Charice saying that she still have a contract was just a polite way of saying NO, I CAN'T ACCEPT YOUR OFFER to SM.

^ I understand and sympathize with you, but I just want to say this: SM would help promote her in other countries and she may gain as much fame there as Bi's character in Full House. Her popularity would spread to the Philippines too, meanwhile making a pathway for other SM/korean artists to become famous there and the Filipinos will know about them.

That being said, Charice rocks

Charice's popularity is indeed growing and have reached even the U.S. Market.

On the November 14th edition of Daily 10 on E!, they mentioned about her jaw-dropping rendition of I'm not Going on Star King. They also talked about whether Jennifer Hudson has been upstaged by a 15 year old Filipino girl (she is actually only 14 but they took her korean age which is +1). Charice Pempengco who has become a Youtube sensation with her singing. E! Daily 10 also emphasized that SHE'S NOT LIPSYNCHING.

An old article about Charice regarding being a YouTube Sensation

Who would have known that the video exchange website YouTube would pave the way for a young aspiring singer to reach her dreams of having an international recording break? Charice Pempengco, Little Big Star Season 1 finalist and Star Records' Artist Management talent, is ready to captivate the world market.
Ten Songs Production, a record company and Extensive Talent Management, based in Stockholm, Sweden, learned about Charice when they saw her Little Big Star video uploaded in YouTube. The young girl was then 12 years old when she sang her version of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You."

To date, that clip in YouTube has had 448,920 views and continues to entice more viewers, especially when someone uploaded a video of Charice with Bianca Ryan (finalist of America's Got Talent) for a Face Off. Both are incredible young singers who caught the attention of Ten Songs Productions A&R Adis Adamson who, after seeing the video, immediately contacted Charice's manager for a recording stint.

Charice and Star Records managing director Annabelle Regalado-Borja traveled all the way to Stockholm, Sweden, last June 14 to July 21 to start the demo recordings. The young Filipina singer recorded six songs of various genres to cater to the US and UK markets. Among the songs recorded were her own versions of "I Will Always Love You" (Whitney Houston original), "Stay" (Shakespeare Sisters original), "All The Money In the World" (an original song sourced by Ten Songs for Charice), and "Running Up That Hill" (Kate Bush original). Ten Songs Productions is continuously looking for more materials for her.

Charice had six days of recording, all done in two to three hours. Despite her nose bleed due to the cold weather, the young singer was very professional in her work.

Star Records and Ten Songs Productions plan to release Charice's songs digitally, which is the current trend in the US and UK's music industry. Star Records will have its digital release within the year while other hit songs are being developed for her. (www.pep.ph)
