No, I'm not gonna be there. My application for Kyoto got turned down.

Ah...last night we watched the Liquidize-DVD again...and it got us all sentimental...thinking back to the concerts and to all the strange stuff that has happened. There rerally were some things going on...which lead me to saying it was fate.

D’espairs Ray…and the world of horoscopes

D’espairs Ray is one of those formations that can be seen as pioneers for many others. Because with their concert in the year 2004 they paved the way for other j-rock bands to come to Germany and were the ones who tested the local audience, so to speak. Meanwhile they can proudly look back on three concerts and the release of their album “Coll:Set”. With their bold gothic-rock mix they seem to perfectly meet the taste of the German listeners and gain moiré and more followers.

Naturally we took the chance to take a closer look at the guys and squeeze out some information.

The band was founded in 1999. Since the beginning of your career you’ve played in the same formation, which is rather unusual for Japanese bands. What is the secret behind this wonderful collaboration?

Karyu: Yes, that’s true. We don’t get along perfectly all the time, but we respect each other and always try to show ourselves from our friendliest side. That’s probably our secret.

Meanwhile you should know each other pretty well because of that, right?

Have you ever thought about what is said about you’re starsign in Germany?

Zero: I am lion. What is said about lions in Germany I do not know, though.

We’d like to play a game with you guys. I’ve done a little research about what is said about lions and I’d be very grateful if you’d tell me if these attributes appy to Zero or not. But please don’t take this too seriously!
German folklore says the following about lions: The lion shows itself proud and strong.

Zero: Well, that’s true, I guess.
Karyu: I want to point out that you can already see that he’s a lion if you take a look at his hair!
(laughter)
Hizumi: If zero sees a woman that is to his liking and that he’d like to meet, his eyes light up and sparkle like those of a lion, proud and strong!

Zero: That I am definitely.
D’espairs Ray: There has been nothing recently to tickle out this attribute, although it’s definitely there.

Sometimes lions are too self-confident and a little modesty would suit them well.

Zero: I’m having a problem with other people for a long time already now. Maybe there is a connection, Maybe it’s my being too self-confident that makes other people hesitate when dealing with me.

Lions aim for luxury, riches and hate mediocrity.

Zero: Yes, your starsign is right there, too. For me there’s only black and white. There’s no way inbetween.

We have two pisces among our round. Hizumi is March 2nd correct?

Hizumi: Yes.

Tsukasa, is March 6th correct?

Tsukasa: Yes.

About your starsign around here the following is said: Pisces are very tolerant.

Hizumi: I do believe I am.
Zero: If you ask me, this attribute applies to both of them. They tolerate everything, as long as it doesn’t hurt their pride.

Pisces are undecicive and are no good at organizing things. They prefer to work under guidance.

Karyu: That’s probably correct. But maybe that could be connected to their being tolerant.
Hizumi: I’m very undecicive. Especially when it comes to shopping. I’m not a person that goes and just buys what he wants to have. I’m someone who keeps something in his hand and looks at it over and over before he decides to buy it or not.

Let’s turn to the last one in the group. Karyu, you’re celebrating your birthday on December 7th. About Sagittarius the following is said: This starsign is marked by fidelity.

Karyu: Yes, I am, if there’s someone I can trust.

Sagittarius are cheerful people.

Karyu: Maybe?
Hizumi: Tsukasa and Karyu are by far the most cheerful people in the band! But more than that you should call them curious.

Now that’s interesting, because that’s the next and last point on our list. About Sagittarius around here is said they are very curious.

Karyu: True, I always want to try everything out.

They believe in the future and in progress.

Karyu: That’s kind of true. I always set objectives for the band and try to bring them there by pushing them all forward.

Sagittarius’ are the best friends one can have.

Zero: Did I ever see you as a friend? I don’t know…
(laughter)

Now that we put you through all of this, I’d like to know if you believe in horoscopes and such.

Karyu: 50:50! I only believe in the good things that I read.
Zero: I don’t believe in horoscopes. In Japan we have so many different ones. There’s those with blood types, animals and so many more. I only believe partly in it. What doesn’t interest me at all are those who are written for commonality, that are found in books and such. But most of the time there are aspects that fit and others that simply don’t.
Hizumi: No, I don’t believe in such at all! I take a look at it sometimes, just for fun. But usually I don’t like being judged like that.
Tsukasa: Only if I want something to be true from a horoscope. Than I do believe in it. So I don’t take it too seriously.
