QUOTE(KanJi @ Nov 10 2007, 04:03 AM)

According to XE.com (a currency conversion site), 432 억 Won is just under $48 million USD.
Approximately broken down, BYJ earned roughly $5.5 million for Taesagi, $5.5 million for endorsements, and $36.6 million in investments. (I'm rounding up number here ...) I mean, the man's known also for his executive thinking as much as his talents as an actor, and he owns a good portion of his own company (BOF), a few restaurants in Korea and Japan, and a significant chunk of stock, if I'm correct. I read an article about his investments a while ago, so I'm a bit fuzzy on the details ... (please correct me if I'm wrong; it's been a while).
I think Bi's total breaks down to earnings from world tour, modeling contracts, stocks, and films. BoA's is from record sales, endorsement deals, and stocks.
But, yes, converted, they are in the millions of USD.
Thanks for clearing things up KanJi! This may help to answer everyone's curiousity abt BYJ's investments.
I will repost here what I shared in the Legend thread when somebody asked about BYJ's source
of income when he is not active in his showbiz activities.
He has been the top earner for quite sometime now. I think for the past 4 or 5 years.

Top stars, exit from management company to stand alone one after another
[Yonhap News]1/28/07 08:34Modeling after 'BYJ one-man business' , (top stars) stretch themselves one after anotherAs the fact that BYJ paid close to
10 billion won as 2006 personal income tax is known recently, it became topic of talks. Paying such amount of tax is an example that decisively shows that BYJ himself is like a one-man business. Actually, he established a company called
BOF (Mariko: now under Key East, a KOSDAQ listed co. dedicated for cultural contents which is another BYJ Co) for himself, and is thoroughly managing one-man business BYJ.

◇"Cultivate minds of businessmen"
The success example of BYJ is counted as the special case even in entertainment businesses. That is BYJ has basically outstanding mind as an executive before he is an actor. That says that to be 'the second BYJ' is not easy. As there actually are stars who do not have any results for several months although they stood alone by taking BYJ as role model, what they are saying gets weight.
Of course, all of them, because they declared to stand alone, are dreaming (to be) BYJ. There are cases in which they are forced to choose (to stand alone) as they are caught under relationships with people, more than that they have great ambition. However, even in such cases, because they are top stars, it is certain that their value will become different depending upon how they plan and prepare for their future. Although they are in positions where they can work alone in full, they have to agonize over what to chhose for thier development.
Along with mergers and associations of management company riding on KOSDAQ boom, we pay attention to what results those stars standing alone will bear.

This article is about his restaurant business and his another co. Smart Kitchen.Translated by Joanne

'Yon-sama', is he 'Dining(食)-sama' in this time? [Korean Business]6/18/06 17:5The
Smart Kitchen, where actor BYJ has 100% of shares, will open Korean set-menu restaurant in downtown Tokyo with regular meals in the nobility family in old Korea as its menu.
Mr. BYJ, the representative of 'Korea Current stars' would set out to advance into restaurant business in Japan placing 'Korean Current restaurant' in the front in this time.
In coming end of August, the Smart Kitchen plans to show for the first time about 300-pyeong sized Korean set-menu specialty restaurant in the name of 'Kosire' in Hiroganedai area located around 20-minutes distance from Rotponki, the busiest street in Tokyo.
Hiroganedai is the place where production factories of manufactoring companies were in the past, and is in spotlight as a restaurant street recently as restaurant companies enter one after another.
The Smart Kitchen is the company which Mr. Bae established in the last year by single-handedly investing 100% of its capital (one billion won) for restaurant business. This company opened the
'Gorilla in the Kitchen' claiming healthy food restaurant, in Shinsa-Dong, Seoul in May, in this year following opening of the
'Tea Loft', traditional Korean tea specialty restaurant, in the main branch of Seoul Lotte Department Store in the latter half of the last year.
That makes the 'Kosire' the third 'work' by the Smart Kitchen. A person who is well informed on restaurant business in Japan evaluated, "Compared to pretty many Korean restaurants in the size around 50-pyeong, most of which adopt 'fusion-styled Korean set-menu meal' centering round Boolgogi or bibimbap, the 'Kosire' is definitely oustanding in its size, and is significant from the perspetive that it utilizes traditional Korean regular meal in its business."
It is known that the Smart Kitchen has been preparing meticulously before opening of the 'Kosire' in order to re-create traditional menu in nobility families in Chosun Dynasty period, including receiving instruction on cooking methods as they personally met off-springs (of nobility).
There is an after-talk that as much as the 'Scandal', the film with noble man in Chosun Period, where BYJ had appeared, is well known in Japan, they referred foods and interior (decoration) appearing in the film.
A person in the business told, "I know that it is not royal food," and "If they succeed in Japan, they would start franchise business by taking back into Korea."
Regarding this, Mr. Chung Kyeongeon, president at the Smart Kitchen, avoided immediate answer by saying, "A collaborating company in Japan is managing all the business."
On the other hand, Mr. Bae, as the largest stock holder (82.44%) in BOF, company specializing entertainment as well as his own management company, rose as the 'big hand' in the business, and also rose to the largest stock holder (37.50%) in the Key East, company listed in KOSDAQ' by participating increasing capital for counter value by third party in past March. All of BOF and Smart Kitchen are affiliates of the Key East. Reported by Park Donghui,donghuip@hankyung.com
