I'm surprised I haven't seen a posting about Yui. She did a song for Bleach titled "life" and has been receiving a lot of hype in Japan for the past few years. I suppose she could be classified as a Rock singer, but I think her style varies a lot. She writes slow ballads, pop quitar songs, acoustic tracks, and electric stuff. I guess if you are not into music, you can at least agree she is pretty cute with a really sweet look.
YUI is a Japanese singer/songwriter/musician (who plays both the acoustic and electric guitar). She was born in Fukouka, Japan, on March 26th 1987. Unlike many professional musicians who've played an instrument all their lives, it wasn't until the age of 16 when she started playing the guitar (and began to study singing and songwriting at a private music cram school in Fukuoka). In such a short time, YUI was able to master her skills at the guitar, and learn so much about singing and songwriting. This would prove her future success and launch her career as a professional artist at a young age.
At a Sony Music Japan audition in March 2003, she performed three songs: "Why Me," "It's happy line," and "I know". YUI was given the highest scores by all of the judges. This excellent audition allowed record labels to notice her and caused the labels to scramble around (in debating who would be able to sign her). In December 2004, "It's happy line" was released as indies single for Leaflet Records (and the song was coupled with "I know").
Soon after, YUI left Fukuoka for Tokyo and around this time she wrote (what would become her major debut single), "feel my soul". Originally the song was going to be released on an indi label until it grabbed the attention of FUJI TV producer, Mr. Yamaguchi. The song was eventually released as the theme song for the Japanese drama "Fukigen na Jiin" (which starred popular Japanese actress, Takeuchi Yuko).

Tomorrow's Way mv (youtube)
- Classical Yui song. Nice orchestra arrangement.

Life mv (youtube)
- This song was one of the opening numbers for the Anime Bleach. more Rock style
Bleach Clip - ending credits (youtube)

Tokyo live performance (youtube)
- this is probably her slowest ballad.

Rolling Star Live concert (youtube)
- Ah.... yui is great in concert! very professional, funny, and she likes to interact with the audience. The openning number is Rolling Star (which by the way was also featured on the anime Bleach). The second song is Cher.ry...

Che.r.ry mv (youtube)
- So when i saw this video, i was actually very surprised because I didn't know Yui could actually be girly. Up to that point I was under the impression she was very tom-boyish and tough (because she rarely smiled in her promo pictures). But actually this turned out to be a very VERY popular song.

Goodbye Days mv (youtube)
- Okay... this is a mv with clips from her movie. it was a good movie... a little slow, but very entertaining nevertheless. the video is very emotional for her... Can you believe she wrote this song too?
Goodbye Days (in Korean) sung by 베이
^ i think it sounds better in japanese, personally, but Im biased (btw im korean).

Highway Chance live concert performance (youtube)
- This is just my favorite song of all time. it is well balanced and it's very upbeat.
I culdnt find another picture to put up there... but i think this one is pretty interesting. I think Yui looks WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than avril (maybe because think asians are better looking)
THis is it for now. Enjoy and tell me what you think. BY THE WAY... dont forget to watch the USC trojans destroy the Illinois Fighting Illini at the Rose Bowl
