EDIT: This picture DOES NOT go with this interview, I just randomly chose it. This picture was released a few years ago.
Also, if you want to know if it's real or not, Clay Aiken will not 'confirm' if these pictures are him or not/won't talk about it.
Clay Aiken, who makes his Broadway debut next week in "Spamalot.", was recently interviewed by Newsweek's Ramin Setoodeh.
Below are excerpts / highlights from the interview which starts off nice but quickly turns ugly:
NEWSWEEK: How's the "Spamalot" rehearsing going?Clay Aiken: I'm sore. I couldn't even get off the toilet the other day. It hurts so bad. I don't know if it's I'm not coordinated or using muscles I never had to use before.
Like what?My legs. Having to remember three, four, five [taps feet]. I can't move and think at the same time.
Did you know your socks don't match?I have a bunch of striped socks. It's too difficult to match them, so now I just pick up two in the morning. Even if I wear a tux to an awards show, the socks never match.
Have you seen "Spamalot"?The first time I saw it I thought it was the stupidest thing I'd ever seen in my entire life. My tour drummer is the "Spamalot" drummer, and [he] said you've got to see it again.
Are you a Python fan?I thought Monty Python was a person until three months ago.
How did you get into a fight with that lady on a plane?I'm not going to talk about it.
I was just curious because you've never talked about it.I did talk about it.
What about the Kelly Ripa thing?I'm not going to discuss it.

(2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fcXWNog1JQ)
Did you think it was homophobic?I'm not going to discuss it.
What do you want to talk about?I think we're done.
Can we talk about something fun?No, we're done. I thought NEWSWEEK would be more reputable. I'm surprised.
But I think people are curious about it.It was a year ago. This is NEWSWEEK. It's not the National Enquirer. I'd hate to have a job where I had to be rude to people.
We're just having a conversation.Change the subject! I'd never take a job where I had to do something that I didn't want to do.
What about all those Ford commercials on "American Idol"?That wasn't a job.
It was part of your job.It wasn't a Ford commercial. It was a music video. It was a completely different thing.
I'll change the subject. What do you do for fun?I watch the news. I read news magazines, but I'm reconsidering that now.
Are you going to watch "Idol"?I haven't watched since season four. I compare it to high-school football--if it weren't for high school, we wouldn't be successful, but I don't need to keep going to the football games.
Clay Aiken is hilarious, I actually lol'd.

That surprised me but made me laugh as well. What an awkward, awkward, awkward interview. I feel bad for the person who had to go and interview him. I was trying to figure out where the entire interview started flopping but it just seemed like Aiken just snapped or something, haha.

Jan 11 2008, 09:29 PM
i don't see what's wrong with him. the news reporter was being rude. of course he would act that way. & honestly i don't think we should judge him about being homosexual or not. people shouldn't stop listening to his music if he is. it's his business and all we have to worry about choosing to like his music. not his sexual preference.

See, at first I also thought that the interviewer might've been a little unprofessional. But really, he did say that he'll talk about something else but then Clay Aiken started to get mean/rude about it.

Jan 12 2008, 07:00 AM
Did those webcam pix actually come with the article? Cos it's never been proven that that is Clay Aiken, especially since that topless pic could be anyone for that matter!
I don't really blame him for being so annoyed with the reporter. The Kelly Ripa thing happened more than a year ago, and if u watched the actual incident, he didn't mean to be rude to her. She blew the whole thing up. (she herself has covered her hand over Regis's mouth numerous times before.). It was totally blown out of proportion by her and the media.
And the airplane incident which happened months ago.....he HAS addressed it before, more than once in fact. the reporter should do his work.
I know like i'm totally siding Clay Aiken, but if u guys actually watched his interviews and concerts, he's far from a diva. He's a pretty down to earth guy....and he does so much charity work for his foundation and UNICEF. He does get rather impatient with the paparazzi and ignorant reporters though...and he can be rather snarky and sarcastic, which ppl mistake for being "rude" and "arrogant". but i dun think he is. and even if he weren't straight, i'd still listen to his music and continue buying his cds. I think the way people have been bugging him about his sexual orientation is totally rude and invasive....makes me feel badly for him.

geez what did he (Aiken) expect? if you're gonna do all these hilarious, lame stuff all the time, of course that's all people are gonna wanna talk about. Apparently he doesn't believe in earning respect.

Heard Clay Aiken was a MAJOR DIVA and has a majorly INFLATED EGO from news and even from former fans. He's really mean to people who come to his concert. Fans have left disgusted by his character and said they were delusioned for liking him. What a change from his Idol image. Even Kelly didn't say things like that to Idol. Even though she could care less about it now, she still performs on there sometimes. Clay isn't even half as successful as Kelly is, so he has like no excuse. Kelly is the only A.I. who has her head on her shoulders and is really grounded despite the fame.

Wow...what an immature comment. You do realize that celebrities are entitled to protecting their private life and refusing to answer questions they feel violates their privacy? I'd like to see how you would react if someone tried bringing up old news that happened a year ago just to see your reaction and get bits and pieces of personal info.

The interviewer probably got weirded out by the fact that Aiken had never even heard of Monty Python before. I can understand some of you people in Asia never hearing about it before, but Monty Python is well-known in America (and England of course, where it's all from).
If I was giving the interview and Aiken said he didn't know what Monty Python was, I'd have probably pimp smacked him right then and there. He's in Spamalot...he may as well pretend to know what Monty Python is.

I might have reacted the same. He looks so different in those campics though. O_O...it's probably because of the cam.

Wow he sounds pissed considering his image, but then again I don't blame him because I do think that some of the questions that the interviewer asked was a bit out of line. I think it would've been better if he kept his cool, but strong.

He was actually being polite in my view. Inquiries about his sexual orientation has gone beyond the annoying level. He already said no to it, so drop the subject and move on. The guy is not going to talk about it anyway.

That interview sounds fake to me... I don't think anyone from Newsweek would be that unprofessional, and I don't think they'll ever publish those pics along with the article. I read Newsweek and this definitely isn't something they'd normally publish. Or maybe they ran out of ideas? LOL
Madoki
Jan 13 2008, 09:13 PM
this seems very fake, since that doesn't even look like clay aiken to begin with.

Those pictures of Clay are actually old. He took them from his webcam a long time ago while chatting on-line with a guy. The guy claims Clay was trying to set up a date with him. That story already made the rounds a while back, so it's old news.
You can choose to disbelieve it if you want to, but it's general knowledge that Clay is gay.

The people who are criticising him on this interview are quite ignorant. The interviewer was extremely rude. Clay had a right to answer like that, because the questions were so ridiculous. Think for yourselves and dont let media influence you.
