I'm pretty sure he's going to be the other love interest now that Gucci is DEFINITELY out of the picture.

Cun Xi seems like a HUGE butthole.
I didn't really understand the concept of "him feeling better if he hurts her" because
Xin Yi is like THE sweetest person.
She doesn't annoy me one bit. I just pity her.
It's like bad things happen to good people.

Cun Xi isn't exactly the IDEAL prince in this drama.
He's really mean and he seems to want to intentionally hurt Xin Yi's feelings.
What happened to the nice Cun Xi on the boat? T___T

Anyways, I hope Dylan get moments with Xin Yi that makes Cun Xi EXTREMELY jealous.

I love this series! It's my new anticipated drama of this year!!! It kills me to wait one whole week for just one episode....
Dylan's REALLY sweet... but i will continue to root for sweet CUn Xi to come out! I love episode four's preview of the next episodes! It's very exciting!

ALSO, can someone help me out here? I want to know what song was used when Xin Yi was going to the hospital to abort her baby. It was a ReAllY nice song!! PM me if you can help!!!!

after i watched it with subs- i can sort of see why Cun xi thought xinyi set him up. when he was on the boat back, he shouted, "XY, did you set me up"...they couldn't really hear what he said...and thought he said he want her to work hard to fall in love with him first and the words sound the same...her brother in law was like quickly, say it back to him! and she responded "i will work hard to fall in love with you first" which to him sounded like she was happily admitting "i set you up" while smiling and waving- which pissed him off. And because those words came out of her mouth, it was to him, a confession of setting him up. I hope they clear up the misunderstanding in the next episode- cuz he does bring up, in the preview, you must not fall in love with me. I feel like guys are pretty conceited when they say that- hey dude, maybe she doesn't end up falling for you, maybe she will fall for dylan, have you ever considered that?!

and POTENTIAL BIG SPOILER FOR FUTURE EPISODES
and i hope anna and dylan aren't relations cuz everyone's expecting that right now and i want to be surprised cuz i bet they won't reveal who dylan's sister is until like the 8th to 10th episode.

I can't wait for this sunday's ep... Dylan meeting Xin Yi! ahh... and Cun Xi gets jealous. hohoho...

I'm also not quite on Cun Xi's side after watching Ep 4.. frankly speaking, I already wasn't that fond of the way he treated XY in Ep 3. The way he talked to her was quite rude.. I mean, of course, she's not some girl that he's close with, but at least he should speak to her with manners...at least more politely. I think it's kinda ironic that CX's the head of his company.. and that normally I'd expect a person holding such a position to think of things rationally and try to solve things in the most practical way, but the way he reacted and responded to matters related to XY was just a bit too childish for me to digest. Most of the time, he's either screaming, or just blatantly shouting at XY.. telling her how she's incapable of doing this and that..

Talking about inconsistencies, I think those were the flaws which the writer or director has failed to deal with. CX was initially quite nice in EP 1 and Ep 2... but then he suddenly changed for the worst when he found out about the baby. I know, he has a girlfriend whom he loves/loved a lot, to which betrayal would be the last thing he'd want to do to her.. but again, XY doesn't feel any better either. To have slept with a complete stranger, get pregnant with his baby, and sacrifice her happiness for her family and Jiang Mu Dao, she's in a worst off position than CX. The last part of Ep 4 was sad... Even if CX thought XY was part of the plan, he could have talked to her right in the face and not just resort to such a despicable tactic..

For now, CX's so totally off for me..

And back to Ethan's acting.. I found something interesting. Ethan LOVES to close his eyes when he's angry or trying to express something.. and to be frank, I found it distracting at times. It's like he's trying too hard... and most of the time the outcome of what he was intending to convey thru his expressions wasn't THAT convincing. I'm not saying he's a bad actor of course.. but so far, I think he's the one who needs more polishing on his acting. Other than him, the others're just fine for me.

Overall the episode was alright.. I found it a bit boring in the beginning.. the only part which I was really impressed with was XY and her mother's conversation. I loved how it brought out the hidden bond which both XY and her mother have concealed within themselves all this while. QE and the actress who portrayed her mother had so much chemistry together, that I totally bought the mother-daughter relationship..

I can understand and accept CX behaviour so far. In epi 3, he was frustrated and upset with his circumstances but he was at least still very nice to XY in the special room and at the hospital. In epi 4, CX was not nice to XY anymore because he was forced into a marriage and XY was also involved in threatening him not to retrench any worker. Because he is resentful of the marriage, his conduct towards his new wife is understandable.

Concerning Ethan closing his eyes frequently, I have the same feeling as ripgal for a long time already. In another of his drama, I already felt this way. Closing eyes = trying to act too hard and distracting to me. The net effect is that he is not able to convey the emotion of his character through his eyes.

i noticed the whole closing eyes thing because it makes his "anger" too exaggerated-- it's ok once or twice but he does it all the time. but i do see how it's easy to notice mistakes/bad decisions in his acting since he's acting opposite someone as wonderful as Joe Chen. She is one of the few taiwan idol actors/actresses who can really act. the other is ming dao- her previous costar 2 times--so i guess ethan has a lot to live up to.

i hope cun xi's relationship with xin yi will make him really grow up. when he was with anna, all he could think abt was how selfish she was [and that was partly true] but he didn't notice how selfish HE could be until he met xin yi - he said something to this effect when he was in the storeroom at Jiang Mu island.

ya... ya... ya... i am waiting anxiously for this scene too *give me a 5*... finally.. something FIRE is burning...
and i also agreed that quite "bored" last episode...

Yeah, I think Ethan's acting is not bad for a taiwanese idol actor. In FTLU, there are just too many veterans actors. There are several award winning actors/actresses and also several veteran stage actors all over the place and Ethan's shortcoming being a relatively new actor is showing.

Only Joe is holding up well against these veteran actors at the moment.

And since it is still the first few episodes of FTLU, Ethan may not have gotten into his character too.

^ I guess I'll cut Ethan some slack as he's considered a newbie..well not exactly a newbie, but a newcomer to the leading actor category. I hope he'll improve for real in the future episodes. I have to admit I'm a huge fan of QE, I want to see somebody who can be at par or level with her when acting.. that's why so far I have yet to sense any chemistry between Ethan and QE whilst I did sense sparks between her and Baron, who's obviously a better actor IMO.

Keep in mind this WHOLE DRAMA is exaggerated. If you watch Wayward Kenting (which everyone should!), Ethan's acting is very impressive. His character has a lot more depth than Cun Xi does, yet Ethan portrayed him VERY well. With the exception of Xin Yi and Dylan, all of the characters are over-the-top

I completely agree. I don't see anything wrong with his acting and I find him more tolerable than a lot of the other actors on the show.

Anyway, episode 4 wasn't particularly interesting and dragged a lot in some places but it looks like the future episode will be a lot better. I can't wait till the couple falls in love and starts acting cute

Yeah, I think Ethan performed well in Wayward Kenting. His role in Wayward Kenting is serious, a bit dark and brooding. Such role is alot easier to act compared to the comedy and exaggerated manner in Fated.

If you judge Ethan on his comedian and exaggerated acting style, he is coming a little short versus the other veterans in Fated.

On the overall, I am actually very happy with TianEn pairing. On the whole, Taiwanese viewers love the pairing and that is reflected in the high rating of epi 1 to 4. Personally, if I have the power to choose a male lead for Fated right now, I would pick Ethan again.

Agreed. I just watched Wayward Kenting I was impressed. Ethan's really good. In Green Forest, he did well as Owen. I dont really have a big prob with the eye closing thing. I think maybe its maybe the role that's different for him. He does really well with the brooding characters. I think though he can still be better in this type of role.

I take the eye closing thing as like trying to repress emotions. Like I feel jealous or angry but I try to not show it. Lol.
Baron isnt too great in the acting thing, just so-so for me.
But I do agree many veterans in this drama.

Well, I guess ppl just judge from what they see in a drama.. I've never seen him act in other dramas before so I don't know, and I just can't say he's a good actor just from FTLY..

But again, yeah.. I'm still looking forward to Ep 5.

this drama is the first drama, I support the second lead, I mean I want Dylan and XY end up together, until now, after watching 3 eps, I still didn't find anything interesting about Ethan's character >.<

in the other hand, Dylan is very enjoying, he's funny, calm, smart, handsome, good hair-style and really care for XY

and one more thing, the 2 supporting roles of this drama have their name in English, Dylan & Anna, while the 2 main roles has their Chinese name, hehe, I find out that's sth interesting

Oh my! I totally didn't see that one coming. Especially since we're still so early in the drama. I really like Dylan's character right now and I'm waiting for Cun Xi to redeem himself. Right now the only thing he has going for him is his adorable Grandma! And I guess the fact that he is the baby's daddy....

About Baron (Dylan), did I read this correctly? His dad was a gangster?! WTH? Maybe they meant in the drama and I misread.

It's not all that uncommon and unrealistic in Asia, actually. There are many celebrities whose relatives/parents were involved with the mafia/gangs

I'm really loving this drama! Especially since the storyline is so unconventional compared to other idol dramas. QE is amazing as usual. Although I do love Ethan, his acting is not the best, but he is decent. I honestly really don't find Baron's acting any better (since we really haven't seen much of him) but I really like his character.

The next episode looks really good with more Dylan and XY interactions and with CX getting jealous.

*squeals* Very, very adorable preview. XY is just looks completely clueless in the scene, while CX just seems to be panicking. Dylan has a very charming smile too. Even though we're only on episode 4, I'm really liking this love triangle. I can't wait until tomorrow!

If the series is following the book, then, this is after XY had a miscarriage and CX chose Anna over XY. Heartbroken, XY and Dylan go to Shanghai for two years. During those two years, Dylan teaches XY to be more independent. CX, however, is still in love with XY, and hasn't proposed to Anna within those two years.

Yeah, I'm pretty saddened about that too... but it's a dramatic turning point for XY to change her life (and Dylan's there to help her).

But at least that's not the end of the series, it's probably just around the middle of it. B/c we still have to see how CX will win XY back. It's actually pretty sweet how CX buys all of XY ceramics (she becomes a very popular ceramic artist) and then sets up an exhibition for her (flashback to episode 3 anyone?), but ends up falling ill in the process.

It did...they even have a moment at the orphanage. Dylan tells XY about his sister...and how they share the same name, so he helped her, but it was cut short because the dog went missing. CX was a jerk about that too, but he redeemed himself at the end
