So I felt like discussing height....but to make the thread more credible, do you often feel taller people are more "powerful"?
But anyway, how tall are you? I just looked up my height converted to inches...and I'm only 5'5 boo. I always thought I was 5'6. Supposedly that's taller in Asians, but I still feel about average height walking around.

I recalled reading somewhere that people that holds higher position such as CEOs are usually taller. CEO on average are about 6', but of course that is not in every case.
The average American height is about 5'9 (175cm) for male and 5'4 (162cm) for female. Asians for male are about 5'7 (170cm) and females are 5'3 (160cm) but varies depending on region.
im about 5'10 or 178 cm.

people tend to like taller people more and are looked upon more favorably
some people treat me well just because they like tall people
some girls tell me they wouldn't have hung out with me [when i asked them the first time] if i was a shortie
i think being tall has it's advantages... albeit unfair

Everyone has this obsession with tall guys...I dunno why. But to be honest, I don't want a short guy either =P Although I suppose I could live with it....

<.< I"m only 4'10 or maybe I'm 4'11, but the point is I'm short. Everyone says I look like a 12 year old and I'm not good with heels, so I stick with tennis shoes and flats. Though I really need to start wearing heels since I am in the business industry. Which reminds me, I feel insecure that people may not take me seriously once I get in(or trying to get in) the working field because of my height. Other than that I love being at my height. Haha

I'm 6'/6' 1" (186cm) and it does help to be at this height. My current and past gfs love it, and so do my friends.
It is a great advantage in sport and also you tend to get a bit more attention in the workplace.
Shorter people make up for their height disadvantage by being more loud. At least some do.

i work in a hospital lab and i find self-reported height and weight is often misestimated... every other male will overestimate his height and maybe one in three females will underestimate her weight - i have to pretend i didn't see their little patient details chart and measure/weigh everyone myself just to get their real details.
it's ridiculous, some men who are around the 175cm mark will round up to 180cm not realising that 5cm in height is extremely noticeable around the average height range.

I'm like 5'11" or so and I guess I'm above average height.
I've never really felt 'powerful' though. Back when I lived in Asia as a kid I felt taller but more in the "stick out like a sore thumb" kind of way. I mean, it's not really in more personality to exude confidence which pretty much nullifies the height advantage.
The most positive thing that comes to mind is I have been told by my gf and exes that they like my height and that they can wear heels without worrying about being taller than me.

hahaha i notice that too
a good rule of thumb for the internet:
reported height - 2.5 inches = actual height (standard deviation of 0.5")
having said that
I am 5'11.5 aka 5'9
and i admit i do feel intimidated among really tall people like 6'2+
i hate looking up at them - makes me feel like a child

my random rant for the day...
lots of girls set standards on a guy based on height, and it's just swept under a rug
but when guys set standards on weight and figure for girls, it's like he's a jerk and shallow
at least girls can work on it and attain somewhat of a standard by healthy diet and exercise
guys wont grow more no matter what they do
plus, i know plenty of girls who prefer not to date overweight men
[though i do admit that women generally have a higher tolerance, but the standard is still there and very real]
we can also throw the wealth factor into this fire, but that's another topic
just wanted to throw in examples covering physical attraction

standing up straight meaning correcting your posture and maintaining the correct S-form of your back bone would add a little cm or atleast make you feel a little taller...
at times i feel a little taller than my actual height, 160 cm, depending on my mood and clothes that i wear...and most of all by the people surrounding me ^-^

Yeah I agree, almost every single girl I've talked to wouldn't date a guy shorter than her...although some do, but they have that mind set before they look for a guy. I think I only care because of societal norms. Personally, it doesn't make a difference to me. Okay so that's an excuse, oh well, too bad.
Well, usually when someone is 6 feet, they're not going to be very "fat"....at least I hardly see people who are that tall and still quite chubby. High metabolism or something? Who knows....

I'm 5'1" and wish I were taller. Height does have some effect for first impressions but in the end, personality and charisma trump any physical characteristics I think. My BF is not that tall (5'7") and calls himself not so good looking, but he has a great personality and a lot of social intelligence. One of my good friends (female) is 4'10" but has an outgoing and super lovable personality that captures everyone's attention.
I wouldn't date a guy shorter than me, but then again, I've never seen a guy (my age) that was shorter than me haha. The shortest guy I ever dated was 5'4" and it didn't really matter to me since I rarely wore heels back then.

I'm 5"1... My mom is even shorter than me. My dad and brother are quite tall though. I guess the height issue is only a problem for the females in my household. I don't feel short where I live since it's heavily populated with people around my height. I think if I moved more easttwards, I'd definitely notice my lack of height. Although I don't think I would want my boyfriend to be shorter than me... it wouldn't be very probable that a guy around my age would be shorter than me.

I'm 5'0, female, and somewhat proportional for my height. Being taller would be nice, but I feel perfectly fine with my height. I do wish it was easier to find jeans/pants. Recently, I do feel an attraction toward taller guys, but I attribute that to the fact my dad was tall. But I've come to like the height interaction between the two heights. I don't rule out "shorter" guys though, because everyone would be taller than 5'0 me.
