LAS VEGAS (AP) — Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao both easily made weight Friday before their rematch bout for the WBC super featherweight title.
Marquez weighed in right at the 130-pound limit, while Pacquiao weighed 129 pounds in front of a spirited, pro-Mexican crowd at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Marquez and Pacquiao are the main event on Saturday night, nearly four years after their acclaimed first matchup ended in a draw.
Both fighters appeared to be in exceptionally good shape, even by their own lofty standards. Neither had any evidence of body fat as they flexed and shook hands while the crowd chanted rude slogans in Spanish at Pacquiao, who has beaten Mexican fighters in his last six bouts.
Pacquiao (45-3-2, 34 KOs) could have even a bit more muscle in his next bout. He’s a slight favorite to claim Marquez’s title, but the Filipino champion has said the fight will be his last at 130 pounds.
His next fight is expected to be at Mandalay Bay in late June against WBC lightweight champion David Diaz, who’s fighting Ramon Montano on Saturday’s undercard. After that, Pacquiao hopes for a unification fight in the fall with Nate Campbell, who won the other three major 135-pound belts last week by beating Juan Diaz.
Marquez (48-3-1, 35 KOs) hopes a victory over Pacquiao will lead to a third meeting, since both fighters have rematch clauses in their contracts. Marquez won his title last year with a unanimous decision over Marco Antonio Barrera.
Steven Luevano and Terdsak Jandaeng also made weight Friday before their undercard fight for Luevano’s WBO featherweight title.

I really doubt a rubber match between the two, Pacquiao already stated he was done with this. Of the two, Marquez was the one who seemed more upset about the decision of the match, and rightfully so. Unless the rubber match includes a very large purse for both fighters, I just can't see it happening.

Congratulations to Manny for winning a very close split decision.
As for the possibility of a rubber match for Pacquiao-Marquez III, it's not in the cards - at least not for now. Manny seems to have a bigger and better opportunity to prepare for the time being.
QUOTE
Although fans and media naturally would like to see a third fight between them, it isn't going to happen, at least not right away.
"I don't think so, this business is over," Pacquiao said about a third fight. "I'm moving up to 135 pounds."
Indeed, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said he will move forward with his plan to have Pacquiao challenge lightweight titleholder David Diaz, who won a nontitle fight on the undercard. They are slated to meet June 28, also at Mandalay Bay. Pacquiao, however, suffered an abrasion next to his right eye in the fourth round, which Marquez (46-3-2, 34 KOs) cut open in the seventh round. The cut could delay Pacquiao's June bout.

Pretty late post. I just the HBO PPV vid of the fight and it was a close one. A rubber match would do great for boxing but with the way things are going it doesn't look like Manny will return to the Lightweight division.

I'm happy that Pacquiao won and even more proud that he acquitted himself well in this fight and won it definitively.
Conversely, however, insomuch as I wasn't that much of an Oscar De La Hoya, I did respect his accomplishments and was disappointed at how he went out on this (and possibly his last?) fight. I was shocked that for a fighter of his caliber that showed great heart throughout his career, he ended this fight practically not having enough heart to answer the bell for the next round. I would have thought that if Oscar was going to go out, he would have at least done it swinging. I'm sure this will be a tough pill to swallow for DLH, not so much that he lost but how he lost it.

Dec 6 2008, 11:09 PM
oscar is concerned about his health..he knew if he went out for one more round he would be getting some brain damage..what good is being a multimillionaire if u lose ur brain?
in that sense oscar was smart..
but he just killed his career..whose gunna watch oscar fight now after losing to a former bantamweight! lol
besides..oscar's ego must be crushed now..if i was him i would never go anywhere near a boxing ring again.
the fact that he just mentally and physically gave up in round 7..he just stayed in the corner, did not throw any punches, and just took all punch after punch from manny.
he's lucky manny's a nice guy..if he really wanted to, he could have loaded up on those punches, but manny probably thought oscar was baiting him lol

[OT:]I missed that part too! I was waiting for my auntie outside who didnt know where the place was.
And BAM! He was already on the corner praying. Grrrr!
Thank god for UTUBE, i'll watch it after I post this.

This is what I saw while waiting for my auntie outside. Haha.

^btw, i think this is an artwork. credits to creator.
Hmmm.. I wonder if the fight would've been different if they were about the same age.
I mean there's a 6 yrs. difference and physically, DLH was a bigger opponent but Pacquaio
is younger and has more strength.
Although I enjoyed this fight, it was very predictable in the first 2 rounds who the winner was.
I felt like the other poster above^ it was scripted. (i dunno. *shrugs*)
But I do not like to think that because DLH has a reputation to maintain, and even if he won most of the money since he's a co-promoter, it hurts more to think that the world thinks so low of you now. (or at least another mexican boxer that pacquiao executed? <--that the right term?)

the thinking before the fight was that oscar was just too BIG too HEAVY too EXPERIENCED and HIGHLY technical for manny pacquiao, now that pacquiao has won, the thinking became oscar was too OLD, too SLOW for the fight.... how people would make excuses...
i have never seen anything like it. oscar surrendered. smart? maybe so... brave.... i doubt it. but i give respect to oscar though. but pretty boy looks arent just enough nowadays.

before the fight, i was worried that the size would be a huge factor for pacman, but OMGah.... just by the 2nd round, pacman just killed de la hoya. Dude, i felt bad for de la hoya, he was just standing there. Never expected it to be such a HUGE one-sided fight.
Man, when pacman had de la hoya on the ropes, i freakin wanted a physical KO, not a technical one. It would've been awesome if pacman brought him to the floor, but de la hoya's big.
GO PACMAN!!!
shortboy
Dec 7 2008, 07:24 PM
I honestly believe that size went more towards Manny than it did De La Hoya. I mean...it's easier punching upward than it is downward.
But Oscar did the smart thing by throwing in the towel. He didn't need scorecards or a KO just to say that he lost - he already knew it was going more towards Manny.
Fun fight, but not exciting.
Mayweather needs to get his ass out of retirement.

ahhh the pacquiao and delehoya fight was quite entertaining. totally worth the $64
the first three matches though were like 'wtf???'
none of em even lasted past the second round

but yea damn i love pacquiao.
felt sorry for delahoya though. he seemed all sick and malnourished like he was on crack and hadnt slept for days or something
but i wanted so badly to see delahoya go down by a knockout
was hoping pacman wouldve have done it when he cornered him for like a minute. delahoya was hella scared =X
but the true fight would be between pacquiao and mayweather.
wanna see how pacman holds up :]

that would be awesome if mayweather came back.
but mayweather is so good defensively. and he has such quick reflexes. i can see him catching manny the same way he caught ricky hatton to end the fight. the only way manny will win is if mayweather got really slow (old) all of a sudden or if he tried to beat manny at his own game. but i don't see that happening. still hope manny wins tho haha
