i heard O's chinese version. i have to admit that junsu and mickey's pronounciation are still about the same, and i hardly get to really hear yunho, so i guess it should be around the same standard too.
but i'm impressed by jaejoong's improvement. lol, i still remember his favourite chinese sentence : 你的爸爸妈妈身体好吗? (Are your parents healthy?)
As i expected, changmin's pronounciation is still quite accurate and clear.

thank you for the lyrics, when i read them only can i understand what they're singing. The lyrics are really bad, they don't rhyme at the last word or something. so it sounds weird. But i have a little hobby of collecting the different versions of their songs, so Thank You!

Well, just some random thoughts here ; On DBSK's Chinese Version of 'O'
Someone [my apologies, cant remember who] mentioned about DBSK's producers, that they should do something about the song lyrics and yes, I totally agree to it Their lyrics translations for Korean/japanese songs makes sense but for most of their chinese lyrics, sad to say, I can't comprehend what they're trying to tell us through the music =(

Still, I'm kinda glad to hear that they might be concentrating more on the Chinese market this year; Finally a common language=)
For a comfirmation, is it true that they'll be releasing a chinese album this year?

omg...i'm like...so frustrated and about to cry T.T

i saw their schedule a few weeks ago (quite a few weeks actually) and i saw that there was a gap in two places...meaning that they could either go to peace concert or hollywood bowl....

but of course, they didn't go to peace concert, so i assumed that they were getting long rests T.T

i'm happy that they are coming to cali, but seriously, i'm so depressed because i didn't get tickets

my friends and i were laughing and joking about how we would get tickets immediately if they were coming...but since they released artist list after ticket sales.....we decided not to buy them T.T (and now the ticket prices are ridiculously sky rocket)

Regarding the Chinese 'O'... I did not understand the lyrics half the time while listening to it! And I am Chinese!

When I read the words, yeah its about the same meaning as the original versions but I don't see why they should sing it in Mandarin though.. kind of 'trying to hard'?? I mean just imagine let's say.. erm.. Backstreet Boys singing one of their songs in English.. and then French.. and then Spanish... you will be like "Wtf?"

And that is the kind feeling I am getting... when I hear 3-4 languages of the SAME song sung by the SAME group and having similar meanings due to the direct translations. Abit too much too handle man!!

I know this sounds bad of me but I really hope they are not planning to conquer the China market next. In Japan alone they stayed for so long and hardly returned to Korea.. with China......omg.. they will never go anywhere else as they have Japan, Korea and China. Those 3 markets are enough for SM to generate tons of money.

I seriously don't want to see them start producing Chinese albums and having concerts in purely Mandarin. I will be pissed off. To sing in Japanese and produce albums and songs in Japanese, I can sort of understand because Japan has a very strong and unique music culture too so Korean artistes don't look and feel too out of place there. But if I am going to be seeing the next 2-3 years worth of albums and DVD concerts in Mandarin...... I have a feeling I will no longer listen to them. It's kinda like they are trying to be everything at once, losing their unique group characteristics and appeal and also forgetting about all the other fans who loved them when they first started out singing in Korean.

Now this is just my opinion, don't bash me because I really do like DBSK's acapella singing skills as well as their dancing. Oh yeah and their ultra interesting/hilarious/cute personalities!

I'm a chinese & I think their pronunciation were clear!
Maybe they are korean, so they got this korean accent, they roll their tongue while pronouncing the words, so maybe some will find it unclear. But when you are looking @ the lyrics & listening to it, you find that they pronounce all the words correctly! It's just the accent! But its okie! Practice makes Perfect!

Haha, I own a lot of DBSK merchandise and while some things are not very used (like old singles) I still try to watch their dvds and photobooks when I got the time (rare nowadays ^^) Yesterday I treated myself to watch through the Prince in Prague photobook, since I had studied a lot
But I do listen to their cds a lot, ok, I still have to buy a stereo to get the best sound, but so far all I got is my computer and a bad cd/clock radio

Anyway, I'm in the process of making a home cinema, so when thats done I think I will watch a lot more, just imagine their concert dvds being played on a projector (which will mean the film will probably be about the same size as my wall)

(well, the work havent started yet, but sometime this summer perhaps?)

cookiedough i think it's pretty safe to say that the boys won't be expanding to the chinese market anytime soon. i think that sm have sort of allocated countries and markets to its singers so that dbsk, csjh, and boa are targeted towards having a japanese identity and suju, snsd and jang ri in towards china. lol. plus, even if they want to do it i don't think they'll have the time to. with their tours, hollywood bowl, korean comeback, it's going to be close to impossible to record a chinese album in between.

regarding on how often i watch the dvds, well when i first got them i couldn't stop watching them. lol. non-stop basically. i would spazz about them, dream about them, clean them, and just stare at them. okay, that may be slightly hiperbolic but you get the point =) after a while i just stopped watching them i guess and just stashed them somewhere safe. lol. though watching them again once in a while is enjoyable. but i realize that i tend to fast-forward parts which i don't like after watching them a few times and just skip it to the parts that i like.

btw, you know how junsu's gotten over his oyaji gag phase and is trying to be mr charismatic? i wonder what they do between intervals now? if they don't do oyaji gags anymore, what do they say during those moments? hmm. elune? lol =p

just listened to beautiful you. it was alright, liked some of the guitar parts. lol. thought it sounded a bit santana-ish. hmm, i guess i'll give it time to grow on me. overall, it's a nice song but i don't think it'll be one of those dong bang classics that i just play all the time.

I am not Chinese, so I would not argue about Chinese market issues.
When it comes to producing the same song in different languages, I do not see anything wrong with this.
Chinese version of "O", most likely, isn't to conquer Chinese market, but a small thank you to Chinese fans for their support.
On the other hand, speaking in their own language effects people like a magic, and opens more hearts ears to listen to them, don't you think so?

If it isn't your taste to listen to the same song in different languages, you have an option, just choose one version of the song, and never add other versions to your playlist. That is all.

EDIT: ah, about Korean fans and singing in Korean. Do you think Cass is disappointed because they are singing in different languages? I, personally, do not think so.
If I am not mistaken, in Korea, from the very old time, speaking in Korean, Japanese and Chinese is very much respected and it was MUST for a Royal family. So Boys' learning those languages and trying to master them in any way possible (I believe) is mostly welcomed by Koreans

O.jbh chinese version: i think its kind of cool that they have a chinese version specially for their chinese fans! i'm chinese (proud to be in singapore!) so i'm kind of glad that they have a chinese version~ they have improved their pronunciation already~ compare it to the chinese version of hug, but nevertheless whatever language they sing, the power of the song is still there!

I think for me personally.. it's just that the lyrics in the original version is meaningful enough and I rather just read a translated version of it than to hear it being directly translated into my own language because honestly, the 3 languages are very different from each other.

I guess in Japanese it might still sound pretty poetic.. but in Mandarin.... the lyrics of course made sense... and it would prob sound normal if it was read as an essay, article or just a plain poem.

HOWEVER!!! You really normally do NOT find such wordings and sentences in a SONG!! It sounds .. rough and crude and abit communist-like (I am saying this with NO intention any communists supporters here, so please refrain from bashing.)

If they do want to sing in Chinese, I think they better get a person who is able to translate the meaning more artistically. Kinda like the Jay Chou type of lyrics where the structure of the words and sentences flow like a beautiful poem. Because right now, the song really does sound crude as I read the lyrics.

And when I DON'T read the lyrics, assuming that they have proper pronounciation, it is very easy to mishear the lyrics as these are not things you would normally hear?

If I did not read that character which means Rebel/Opposition (something along that line), I would have thought that he meant '烦‘ which means frustrated/troubled because both would have worked!

Correct meaning: In this chaotic generation, do you want to rebel forever?
Misheard by me: In this chaotic generation, do you want to be frustrated forever?


Oh and when Yoochun (it's him right?) sang the second line in the song "没道理 没原则 绝对真理也不存在", I was like ok this TOTALLY sounds like a communist protesting down the street and punching his right first in the air as he chants this.

Like I said, I love DBSK! And I totally admire their ability to sing and dance so well, but some of the moves like singing more songs in Mandarin, though seem like a nice gesture to thank their Chinese fans.. I don't know man.. the way the lyrics of 'O' was translated... was really quite a put off... and while they boys probably are under the impression that they are singing the same meaning as their Korean and japanese version (which they are), the way the lyrics are worded can really affect a song I feel. It's a fine line between being an inspiring song and being an rebell(rather crude) rebel song.

The concept of the song can definitely be preserved even if the words are expressed more artistically.

It is not badly written....if it wasn't a song? It just doesn't really seem very DBSK for some reason.

You are right about it sounding awkward to someone who is used to listening to mandopop from the Taiwan/HK as well as Malaysia/Singapore side though! Because when I first heard the song and the lyrics I was like "?!?!?!?!!?!?!??????????". And it was not because I did not understand the lyrics but more like "Why the heck was it written like that?!"

Perhaps I am a little biased but then again most of the famous/popular singers seem to come from the other countries and not China?

China singers generally are not able for some reason to break into the other Chinese markets with their own songs? Right now, I think there are probably only a handful around who managed to get accepted by the other Chinese markets?? (I could be wrong but right now I really cannot think of many names)

However we often see the other stars from the other markets going into the China market with their own songs and style of lyrics and the China fans happily accept and welcome them.

So right now I am thinking... yes perhaps the lyrics is written by a Chinese.. perhaps it makes sense.... perhaps it preserves the meaning of the song..... but... but... somehow overall, something doesn't really click.


I know people are going to start being defensive on this so I guess I will shut up about this topic as there will be tons of people with varying opinions. This is just mine and let's put it this way: I am Chinese, I do listen to alot of Chinese (as well as songs from other languages) and I love DBSK.... BUT... if they continue consistently churn out covers after covers of all their songs in the Chinese Language with similar direct translated lyrics, I will not be buying or even bother listening to any of the songs. But as one of you have pointed out, the will be other die hard fans who still will. Which is fine! I will just continue listening happily to the Korean/Japanese version of the songs!

Kris_argee: My korean is very limited but from what i see, i'm guessing it as the guest list for that event. For the artists that have a bracket with korean words in it means that the guests have been confirmed. For those who doesn't have it, like dbsk and epik high, it's not confirmed whether they will attend that event. So the status for DBSk to attend this event is still pending.

To a newcomer like me, going on stage for the first time, it's a very nerve wrecking experience. However, due to the presence of Junsu sonbae, it felt like I can rely on him. Cool: How did Junsu lighten your nervousness before going on stage?

I heard the Chinese 'O' Zheng Ban He, I thought they sounded okay, just the slang there. Hmm I'm not really a great fan of DBSK's Chinese version of songs, but I do like to hear them try. It's kinda closer to heart, since I'm Chinese and I can understand the lyrics.. (provided with a lyric sheet but well! They tried! And are still improving, to sing, for us!) So let's just support their songs yea? ^^
