Plus, The violin's bow (the stick you hold to play it) has a thick amount of strings compressed together.. If guitars (Though it doesn't have a bow to play it) have 6 strings, the violin bow has like, more or less a hundred of them.. The violin is the smallest member of the string family. Because its strings are the shortest, it produces the highest sound. There are more violins in the orchestra than any other single instrument. The violins play in two different groups, with the first violins playing the highest-pitched part and the second violins playing the second-highest.
Anyways.. I think those strings that fallentenshi was talking about are not loose strings but, the actual strings of the violin, only it's too long.. I guess Henry has replaced it an awful lot of times before..He doesn't cut the extra length anymore.. Well, I'm not sure, but that's what I think..
I don't mean to point fingers at you or anything, but i really want to clear this up.
strings and bow hairs are DIFFERENT [I think you're confusing the two]
A guitar has 6 strings. A violin has
5. [edit:HAHA I mean 4...sry x_x;;]
A guitar is strummed with a pick. A violin is played with a bow.
A violin bow has horse hairs strung on a wooden stick. When the bow has too much pressure/speed when playing on the strings, the hairs will naturally break. In normal circumstances, it's normal for the bow to lose one or two hairs now and then. Since the bow hairs wear out, the bow is regularly rehaired about once a year.
So, no worries ^^ This is totally normal and doesn't affect the performance at all. And, IMO, impressive ^^ [he plays with so much feeling/passion!]
On the other hand, if it were the actual violin STRINGS that broke, it would be disastarous and he'd have to stop playing or air bow it...
I don't think the violins are separated by pitch, but by difficulty
btw, I know this because I've been playing orchestra in school for more than 5 years.
