What are some good grammar books? (i hope its not some gigantic textbook)

i was wondering, when u guys/girls read a book do u pay attention to how its written (grammar wise), or do u read many books and get the gist of how writing works?

-I'm paying attention to every sentence..but sometimes i'd doubt the writer's grammar 0_o...so are all books edited and corrected in grammar?

there are tons of mistakes in textbooks...lol...and yes textbooks usually go through editors...however, sometimes its looked over...and sometimes...the writing is grammatically correct, but it just sounds all weird...=)

I have this really, really good grammar book called Eats Shoots and Leaves. it feels like the author is just conversing with you about good grammar - not lecturing you.

btw, the title of the book has a funny background story. it's about a Panda who went into a bar, eats shoots and leaves. but with a usage of the punctuation it can completely change the context.

a panda goes into a bar, eats , shoots and leaves. vs. a panda goes into a bar, eats shoots and leaves. *wink, wink*

my freshman year english professor made us buy "The Little, Brown Handbook Brief Version" by Jane Aaron. it has everything from grammar, spelling, to usage and documenting your references.
