MC Sniper is high quality. There's some good stuff there, let me know if you're interested in underground hip-hop, got a pretty big list =)

lots of irony in having Drunken Tiger, MC Sniper, Big Bang, and MC Mong in the same list... but I suppose as long as you're enjoying the music it's fine, and it's good that more people are listening to underground in Korea, lots of talent that has too small of a fan base.

Yeah... super junior... big bang... that's k-pop like no other...

Well, some interesting playlists... just some are uninformed as to what constitutes being of "k-underground" =P

Last time I listened to big bang was while at the beach, with 25 people, and I was forced to listen to it because I was physically unable to get to the stupid boombox and turn it off >.<

Huh, now that I look at that list...it's actually kind of embarrassing how much Korean hip-hop I have on my mp3 player right now, and that's not even counting all the additional stuff on my computer that I'm too lazy to catalogue right now. Damn. I don't mean that it's embarrassing 'cause of the music--no, the music is good--just that I'm not Korean, so it's pretty weird.

8:45 Heaven really is a special song... The Quiett wrote the beats and music, Tiger JK wrote the lyrics and worked with The Quiett on the music, and Bizzy did the accompanying vocals on the actual production track. Might not have sounded the best in that vid (I've seen it before), but if you listen to the actual track, it's Bizzy doing the support vocals. Don't think he messed up the album version =/

To be fair, I agree that his radio performances and live ones aren't the best (i wasn't a fan of his "good-life" performance with JK)

But, some of his new stuff is really good. Check out Movement IV off his album...his part and JK's parts are sick:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f59d7iXr9_A

and his english is pretty good too! he sang "gagnsta's paradise" entirely in english (with yoon do hyun):

Whattuup guys

I say American hip hop has fallen to the victim of corrupted music. Pretty much the same, lyrics really don't make too much sense, not enough soul in the song.

Korean hip hop still lives strong, and artists like tablo have inspired many

YES the new Briks album! An extremely good album, I also added it to my playlist fairly recently, it's an excellent album. That song truly is perfect... glad you know about The Q doing the instrumentals, so few people know about this!

Haha! I think I've listened to his work enough that I can recognize when he's the mastermind behind any new track...such a distinct smooth and classic sound. He's brilliant and I'm so glad I got to see him perform in Seoul biggrin.gif

siliconrex, out of curiosity, where did you find the Rhymebus album? That must be a monster playlist, unless those are separate smaller playlists... no Drunken Tiger? Also noticed P&Q, what about The Quiett's solo stuff? Just curious since it seemed like such a monster list, hahaha =)

so i listened to soul connection inc. song called "Hey Ma" (ft. Kuan), and downloaded their album "Rapsody" too, which is pretty good. I am totally their new fan. So i wonder , is there their thread here at soompi?
jennylee528
this is an excellent thread for me to stalk because i hardly listen to legit k-hip hop but would really like to learn more about it. there is such a giant list here so i was wondering if someone could recommend a few k-hiphop artists that i could start off with? so far i've listened to pretty much the entire epik high discography, drunken tiger's first album, and all of buga kingz. i enjoy all three groups, and appreciate good lyrics.

Oh man, you're in for a treat! Those albums you've mentioned are a perfect way to delve deeper into the genre.
Some recommendations to get you started.

I suggest listening to the Soul Company compliation albums first. You'll also get exposed to a lot of artists this way, and maybe you'll find someone you like.

The Bangerz (2004)

Official Bootleg vol.1 (2005)

Official Bootleg vol.2 (2007)

--------------------------------------------
Try these key albums to ground yourself on knowing what's worth listening to and what's not (of course this is totally subjective and other people will probably recommend something different).

Virus - Pardon Me? (2003)

화나
Brainstorming (2005)

그날이 오면 (2006)

If you liked these, try his his Fanatic album.

TBNY - Masquerade (2006)

Infinite Flow - We Are Music (2005)

If you liked We Are Music, try their Respect 4 Brotha (2002) and 연애편지 (2006) EP, both of which are excellent.

Verbal Jint - 누명 (2008)

Actually you should try all of his releases if you get the chance.
--------------------------------------------
Some lighthearted fare.

감자 - EPtizer (2009)

People & Places vol.1 (2003)

Simon Dominic - Lonely Night (2007)

Overclass
Collage 1 (2008)

Collage 2 (2009)

Ahh, I love this thread! So much new music to check out.
My favorites have pretty much been listed, hah. All of Soul Company.
I'm sure there's more I listen to, but I forgot now.
I'll definitely check out the stuff listed here.
davidfresh
@asadal: Hm, I've tried all of those except for People & Places. I'll get around to it soon then (;
I love how Overclass dominates 3/5 of the "lighthearted" section. Well maybe. Is Gamja Overclass? He's always with Rimi.
All of them up to VJ's are classic in my opinion. Miss IF :l

My playlist at the moment: Soul Dive's album, VJ's new, Loptimist's first, Spectrum Shot (by Rimshot), and Artisan Beats & Minos.

But I often turn on some Epik High, Rimi or Garion. I don't get tired of them much.
PoppinBC
Epik High is actually off of my playlist right now, I go through a weird love / hate deal with them, sometimes I love listening to Epik High, other times I can't stand them. They'll talk about how important it is to be who you are and identify yourself as what you are not what everyone wants on their independent albums, then they have singles like "Love Love Love". Not wrong to appeal to both demographics, but I always flip back and forth on how I feel about them hahaha.

Just built a side playlist of all Jazzy hip-hop, got P-Type, Addsp2ch, Primary Score, Primary Skool, Mild Beats, and a few others...
davidfresh
Jazz-hop is always nice <3 Of course P-Type would be at the top of it (; I really liked Primary Skool too. Beenzino~

Epik High does have a couple crap songs out, but their albums are always worth it. And some hypocrisy happens, even Pac and Biggie would have had some sell-out moments had they not died lol (my opinion). But EH topics are great in my opinion, even a lot of underground rappers talk about crap (although I don't mind much, if the flow is good, I'll buy).

What's your opinion on Salon 01? That's where I personally have the love/hate relationship lol. Seriously, Gerith Isle?..
But the beats are so fresh, so when people like Von/Giant/Pento TRY, I love it.
asadal
I like Gehrith Isle. That JA remix of Monstershit with Giant is one of my favorite songs ever.

감자 and Rimi are just in the same record label.
davidfresh
I won't lie, I deleted that song because Gerith was on it. But I guess I should expand my mind, as did Loptimist.
The Salon guys are a strange bunch, but talented and entertaining.

Gamza's album was sick, if not a little mainstream. His flow it just too good. Plus......
Rimi = <3 x Infinite.

Who's in Virus again? Minos and....... Can't put my finger on it ㅠ.ㅠ
asadal
What? You deleted it because of Gehrith Isle? gtf away me mang. You're officially on my sihtlist.

jaykay (or am I...)

You should watch that one Mooreup Pak DoSa episode with Tablo, where he addresses the issue with following one's dream and one's own reality. I know I've come to sympathize with his methods, and Love Love Love is not a bad song by any stretch.

Plus, listening to serious preachy songs all the time can make a guy go crazy.
