I haven't seen any thread on Italian music, and if there already is one I apologize but I posted some music in the native language thread, but that's not very active so I thought I'd move my links to a thread of there own because that one more people would see that there is very good Italian music and I could update more if people wanted. Italian is a gorgeous language, there are a lot of great singers and voices out there, but apart from a few singers who also sing in Spanish, Italian artists aren't that popular in terms of the World Market compared to Spanish or some Asian artists. So I've noticed that not as many people listen to them, hopefully that can change.

Tiziano Ferro - Sere Nere (One of the most beautiful ballads ever) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzK5vQWzZ_E
Tiziano Ferro - Stop! Dimentica (Techno influenced song from him, Excellent!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUwR9yTR3Pc
Tiziano Ferro - Alla mia Età (His newest ballad) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxRvmHW81uw

Giusy Ferreri - Non ti Scordare Mai Di Me
(Similar to Amy Winehouse, she's very popular now) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vh6_EXy9jpw

Emanuele Dabbono - Ci Troverrano Qui (Acoustic Pop, a favorite of mine) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7GjZCL6DWA

Baustelle - Charlie Fa Surf (Pop Rock, similar to a band like Loveholic) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0JlEbgJf8o

dARI - Tutto Regolare (Similar to Metro Station, Electro Pop Rock) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0igGH-evW38

Luca Dirisio - Usami (Great pop song) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRng4wr7wZU

Il Nucleo - Vorrei un Motivo (Pop Rock band) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6snkBUw_RdA

CapaRezza - Vieni a Ballare in Puglia (Hip Hop) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QDgFqdTy54

Marracash - Badabum Cha Cha (Hip Hop) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9d3F3D8tM0...feature=related

These are all somewhat more recent songs, I personally am a huge fan of the older artists from the 50's and 60's as well, like Adriano Celentano (greatest singer of all time), Gianni Morandi, Little Tony, Mina, and Rita Pavone. Those are for somewhat of a more acquired taste though, so I stuck with the songs from this generation, so hopefully some of you can find some new music you like and I can add some more. smile.gif

I love italian music! I haven't heard any in a while, thanks for the links to these.

Sere Nere is one of my favorites as well.

I am a big fan of Laura Pausini. "Volevo dirti che ti amo" is such a beautiful song.

thanks for all the links!

I live in a really Italian neighborhood and sometimes they start singing all these Italian songs (esp when we all went to italy this spring).
Some are actually pretty good!
I wanted to ask for some recommendations. like the oldies that they sing @ weddings. those songs seem so fun haha

I like Laura Pausini too, never one of my favorites even though she's pretty much the standard. Have you heard her new album? It's pretty good.

Well I don't know what you've heard at weddings because I really have only ever been to one and I was real little so I don't remember but as for oldies, I'm sure they've played songs by Adriano Celentano, Mina, Gianni Morandi, Luigi Tenco, Fabrizio De André, Rita Pavone, Rino Gaetano, Claudio Baglioni, those are some of the bigger names from the late 50s-70s, Adriano, Gianni, and Claudio are still around though.

If you want links to some of their hits I can do that, and I'm Italian American actually.

Oh, nobody? sad.gif

Il Genio - Pop Porno (Electro Pop, really catchy!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPX8z5H1-aU

Anna Tatangelo - Profumo di Mama (Pop, more adult contemp sounding but very pretty and relaxing) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXxXKjdPjn0

Nek - Laura non C'e (Really Popular when it came out, Pop) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_jwIeoAP8Q

Adriano Celentano - Preghero (Cover of Stand By Me from the 60s) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgZXQ7u4fBE

Wow, an Italian music thread? Sounds good (:
I'm not Italian myself, but I study the language and I have to say, it's really fun and absolutely beautiful <3
I'll definitely listen to the links everyone's provided, but since I'm on a computer with slow net, Ima have to go to a relatives xD
Can anyone recommend more rnb-styled Italian music?
mizer_unmei
I haven't been able to find much Italian music I really like. Most of what I've found is boring ballads or really typical soft rock. (Pick up the tempo!)
I have 2 albums by Carmen Consoli, and whom I kinda like. I like Autunno Dolciastro. I also have an album by Valeria Rossi, but it's really generic pop-rock. Nothing too special.

However Il Genio sounds cool. They make the type of music I like. But the girls voice seems too mellow for it. Maybe other songs will be more uptempo. ^^

Also it's never good, because I've been studying Latin for the past 3 and a half years, I look at Italian and just think "you're doing it wrong!." >.>;

I really like "Don Giovanni" by Mozart though! smile.gif <3

RnB's not the easiest to come by, actually I probably have the least rnb out of everything. If you want rnb, it's most likely always going to sound somewhat poppy but you can try the early style of Tiziano Ferro. He's more well known for his ballads but in his first 2 albums, mainly his first, he was considered more rnb. From his first album this is, "Xdono" (Perdono) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnuPRQ1PrNA
Gemelli diversi is also considered rnb, even though I don't know if I would because I always thought of them as just a boyband with some rap mixed in but I guess compared to the other boybands they are closer to rnb. I like them though so who knows, you can try the song "Mary" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ylQEdIxbtM

The rnb scene isn't really that big over there. As far as mainstream goes, Pop/Ballad and Hip Hop is mainly what you're going to get. There's a lot of great bands and rock music but the mainstream ones are a bit more poppy and a lot of the good rock scene is more indie.

I see a lot of people say stuff like that, I think the problem is, outside of Italy, especially outside of Europe (i don't know where you are but just saying) Italian music doesn't much of a following. It's not like Asian music where there's tons and tons of sites and shops and things dedicated to it, kind of more hard to come by. So all everybody ends up seeing is basically Laura Pausini, and a few others that do all the pretty generic pop music, ballads and all that. A lot of them are good but if that's not what you're into then it doesn't really make anybody want to keep trying. I don't know how much digging you did but I'm just saying in general.

Until recently, Il Genio was more indie, see there's a lot of interesting indie artists but there's good mainstream ones too, just not really mainstream to foreign listeners. Their songs do get more upbeat but not many, and Pop Porno is one of the best ones. As far as her voice goes, I think she's energetic in one song (Gli eroi del Kung Fu) and that's about it. If you want more exciting music I'd suggest trying more male singers because I barely listen to any females because they all tend to sound the same to me. There are some exceptions of course but I generally like music by males, because I think they're voices are better and also because they tend to be more interesting. If you like the electro pop sound, Bugo is kind of a pioneer in that. He's pretty popular, his albums always seem to be well received. He's not so electro sounding as Il Genio though, he mixes actual instruments with his music. This is a really pop song, I think it's cute. If this doesn't suit you then I think you could try some of his other songs because he tends to have a pretty wide range, from really poppy like this song, to a more rock sound. It's worth a shot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xoc_zk6bdJc...feature=related

Hahaha, they're doing it wrong. I guess that's one way to look at it.

And I don't really think Mozart counts...especially since he was Austrian
rumpshaker
The only song I've heard is the Stop! song by the Ferro guy.

I'm gonna go listen to all of these though. I'm so excited to hear it! I hope I like the electronic pop songs. I even have been looking for electronic Spanish songs, but like Italian the majority of them are either crazy ballads or a rock group that aspires to be AC/DC. So far I've only come across Belanova sad.gif

Bugo sounds pretty good, but I think his voice kinda takes away from the music. I can't listen to it for too long.
I really like this song Il Genio song, Povera Stella, which is on the slower side but it's really pretty, but not too soothingly pretty.

I while ago I found this group, Paola e Chiara, and they were the closest to what I was kinda looking for. For they still don't sing too fast. I like good beats, but if the vocals aren't up to the same speed and sometimes it just sounds like ethereal/pure moods stuff. Blehhh.

and also Vieni con me by paps n skar

The only Italian song I've listen to in full is L'amore Immaginato

Would anyone have any vocal jazz recommendations? I've never heard jazz type songs sung in Italian.

Paola e Chiara were good back in the early 2000's. I think they are kind of past their prime though. They tried the english market and after that I wasn't too interested.

Now let me introduce you to a lovely man, who I happen to adore.

MARCO CARTA

Marco was last season's winner of Amici di Maria de Filippi, or just Amici as most people call it. It's similar to Idol or X Factor (which they also have in Italy) but Amici features dancers and actors in addition to singers. Amici also has all contestants live in a house together and that segment gets plenty of air time. Right now Amici is in the middle of its 8th season. It's a pretty entertaining show, I watch it a lot.

Marco is really popular right now. He's released his first album earlier this year in June, Ti Rincontrerò, and released a live album, In Concerto, in I want to say October, but I'm not sure. Let's just go with October. Both excellent, he's got such a nice voice and he sounds great live. He's a pop singer, focusing on ballads and more mid-tempo pop songs. He's got a bit of a sob story as well. When he was 10 years old his mother died in a car accident, so he was raised by a single dad until his father also passed away 2 years later. Then he was raised by his aunt and uncle in Cagliari, where he's from in Sardinia. Until Amici and his new found fame, he was actually a hair stylist (obviously from his always styled hair - no bed head for Marco!) Now he's a super popular singer with droves of girls screaming his name, not only because he's a very talented man but also because he's quite attractive haha biggrin.gif

this is such an interesting topic! though, honestly i don't really listen to the singers you've written about.
they're good, but when it comes to pop i only like the asiatic one ^^'
btw, if you like genres like rock, pop rock or nu metal, i suggest you to listen something from these amazing guys:

Linea 77 - Sogni Risplendono [it also features Tiziano Ferro, who wrote the lyrics]

then i really love Caparezza, he's a rapper, [not like all the gangsta ones XD] and he's very good. he writes amazing lyrics which talk about how politic goes here [a mess] but imho he's a genious, you should try him too.

Caparezza - La Mia Parte Intollerante [here he sings about he wants 'less fu***** bullies and many more gays, more dreadlocks and less monclairs, more stratocasters and less djs' he means he's on the weaks' side]

THEEEEN.. if you like genres like electronica you should reaaally check these guys.. they're famous in italy and they do loads of concerts all over our country X3 [and they just love doing fanservice here and there]
and don't let me start on their songs.. just AWESOME lyrics.

Subsonica - Aurora Sogna
Subsonica - Incantevole
Subsonica - Veleno

hope you'll like them ^^ cause i do.
Chakra'ca
^ nice picks, I love all those artists, subsonica was actually my favorite band for a really long time but then I kind of moved on, but I still like them a lot!

I think you're right about Caparezza, I think he's the best Italian rapper. Way better than Fabri Fibra, I keep trying to like him but it's not really working.

I listened to Linea 77 for the first time when that song came out because it featured Tiziano but I've listened to their other releases since then and I have to say they're really pretty good, even if that's not always my style.

Here's some more songs:
Le Vibrazioni - Dimmi
Paolo Meneguzzi - Una Regola D'amore
Gemelli Diversi - Mary
Jovanotti - A Te
Gianluca Grignani - Ciao e Arrivederci
Matteo Branciamore - Addeso Che Ci Siete Voi - Theme to popular television show, I Cesaroni where he stars
Alex Britti - Oggi Sono Io
Raf - Non è Mai un Errore
Modà - Sarò Sincero
Alexia - Grande Coraggio
Gianna Nannini - Suicidio D'amore
Luca Butera - Wow! (Una Star Così Vera)
Pquadro - Francesca

I don't like Fabri Fibra either, his songs are so himself-centric. -.-

'A Te' has such wonderful words ** i really like it.
I also like Mary from Gemelli Diversi, though when a french girl told me 'they're like the italian Big Bang' i totally lmao.
It's kinda true but, ew. I totally prefer GD or TOP over Thema.. or.. Grido. XD but they did pretty catchy songs too.

Yeah he gets on my nerves, and "In Italia" gives me headaches...

I really like A Te too, beautiful song. Safari was a really good album too
haha I guess in a way they are...I don't really like Big Bang that much but I see the similarity
None of the guys in Gemelli Diversi are attractive at all though! haha but yeah I like their voices and the music is good...well for the most part (sometimes it just gets on my nerves)

That video is ridiculous, they do not make pretty girls. I do like the straightening of the hair bit though XD

Well, Italian music isn't very popular when it comes to listening from music from around the world.
I think the majority of people who listen to Italian music outside of Italy are of Italian heritage, at least that's why I started listening to it.
I think a lot of the really popular Italian singers are the one's that also sing in Spanish and that's why they're well known. Since, way more people like Spanish music, and when I hear of somebody mentioning an Italian singer usually they're listening to a song from them in Spanish.
So basically, unless you are actually of Italian descent, I think Europeans are really the only ones that listen to it.

I was so happy when Marco won, he was my favorite Amici contestant and I'm so glad that even after the show, he's very successful!

Ah, grazie! Ho studiato l'italiano per sei anni e sono un quarto d'italiano, ma non ascolto la musica. (Thanks! I studied Italian for 6 years and am 25% Italian, but I don't listen to the music.) Off the top of my head I only know some opera, Zucchero, Andrea Boccelli, and Lunapop. I only know Lunapop cause my cousin told me about them. I've never listened to them.
Edit: Oh, and can't forget: "Nel blu di pinto di blu"

I'll definitely give these artists a listen.
