Money Today's Star news on the past 8 ~9th had done a poll of the 2008's Best Artist, Best Song, Best Male Female Singer, BEst Newbie, Best New Happenings in the en tertainment industry to the 20 of the 3 STATION (KBS MBC SBS) PRODUCERS. Star News asked the entertainment producers from the gayo programs and variety shows because they were the people who were able to see front to front the popularity of these celebs.

The PDS chose BIG BANG because of their music quality, popularity among toe public, style and etc. they were the group that were most able to gain acceptance and had the most hit songs this year.

Wonder girls got 3 votes, Seo Taiji got 1 vote, lee hyori got 1 vote, and Jang Gi Hwa and faces got 1 vote.

the PDs choice for best song of the year was WONDER GIRLS' nobody.


The PDs votes of 8 went to NOBODY. the pd's said " Nobody is a fun song and you want to sing along to it." they said this was the quality and uniqueness of the song.


BIG BANG 's haru haru got 6 votes

JEWELRY's one more time got 2 votes

BIG BANG'S sunset glow got 1 vote

SON DAM BI crazy got 1 votes

brown eyed girl's L.O.V.E. got 1 vote

Jang Gi Hwa and faces's cheap coffee got 1 vote.


This year's BEST MALE AND FEMALE SINGERS went to BIG BANG 13 VOTES and WONDER GIRLS 14 votes.

The rest went to Bi 3 votes, Seo Taiji 2 votes, Jun Jin 1 vote, jang Gi hwa 1 vote. For female, lee hyori 4 votes, son dambi 1 vote, uhm jung hwa 1 vote. We picked lee hyori and bi because on the gayo shows if they attend the ratings go high up.

Shinee got picked as the best newbies.

Behind Shinee were

Son dabi with 6 votes, W and Whale 3 votes, 2pm 2 votes and Jang Gi hwa with 1 vote.


The best new happening of 2008 was " IDOL GROUPS POWER" 10 of the PDs picked BB WONDER GIRLS DBSK SHINEE AND ETC. as the ones who lead kpop for 2008.

and SEO TAIJI, BI KIM KUM MO SHIN SEUNG HOON COOL, AND ETC. were the ones that all made their comebacks this year. and chose the comeback of the artists in 2008 as the second biggest happening.

another was the 19 underage banning music as another happening of 2008.

I don't have full information on Jang Gi Hwa and Faces but they're a band and they write these hilaroius songs with intersting lyrics. The guy is funny because he sings these songs with such a straight face. JGH went to Seoul National Univ. Looks like your everyday company/office salary man.
i don't mean to say that their songs are jokes though. don't take it the wrong way.

What about the ‘Best Singer’, ‘Best Song’, ‘Best male and female singers’, ‘Best newcomer’ and ‘Best incident’ of 2008?

20 PDs from Korea’s 3 largest broadcasting company KBS, MBC and SBS came together to vote and here are the results.

A survey was done on 8th and 9th December amongst the PDs to find out the ‘Best singer’, ‘Best song’, ‘Best incident’ and ‘Best newcomer’ etc for the year 2008.


Best singer



Big Bang has been voted by 20 over PDs from KBS, MBC and SBS as ‘This year’s best singer’.

And Big Bang has been voted ‘Best Singer’ by 14 PDs. With such strong support from the PDs, they have voted the best male singer group for 2008 in Korea.

And the reason why they have won their votes “Big Bang’s production and work, popularity and style have gotten the acceptance by many. They have also given us many hit songs this year.”

The rest of the votes went to WonderGirls (3 votes), Seo Taiji (1 vote), Lee Hyori (1 vote) amongst the others.


Best Song



Best song of the year’ went to ‘Nobody’ by the WonderGirls. During the survey for this category, Big Bang’s ‘Haru Haru’ got 6 votes and ‘Sunset Glow’ got 1 vote. Other songs that were given votes were Jewelry’s ‘One More Time’ (2 votes), Brown Eyed Girls ‘L.O.V.E’ (1 vote) and Son DamBi’s ‘Crazy’ (1 vote).


Best male and female singer



Big Bang and WonderGirls were for ‘Best male and female group’ havin received got 13 and 14 votes respectively.


Best male singer



Rain was voted the ‘Best male singer’ with 3 votes. Other singers voted were Seo Taiji (2 votes) and JunJin (1 vote) amongst others.


Best female singer



For ‘Best female singer’ it went to Lee Hyori got most number of votes of 4 votes. Other female singers voted were Um Jung Hwa and Son DamBi with 1 votes each. Best male and female singers Rain and Lee Hyori were voted by the PDs because “viewer rate soars whenever they appear on tv”.


Best Newcomer



This category went to 5-member group SHINee.

They debuted with ‘You are so pretty, noona’ in May, and subsequently released other hit songs like ‘Love like oxygen’. They received a total of 8 votes from the PDs.

Son DamBi also got 6 votes even though she debuted in June last year. Groups W&Whale got 3 votes and 2PM got 2 votes amongst others on the list.


Best incident

10 PDs voted the occurance of idol phenomen in 2008 as the ‘Best Incident’. Idol groups like Big Bang, WonderGirls, Dong Bang Shin Ki and SHINee has led this year’s Kpop scene strong.

The phenomen of many top stars like Seo Taiji, Lee Hyori, Rain, Kim Gun Mo and Shin Seung Hoon’s comeback in 2008 were given 6 votes by the PDs. Other than that, the incident of Rain’s ‘Rainism’ and Dong Bang Shin Ki’s ‘MIROTIC’ being ruled as unhealthy material for teenagers causing so much discussion and debate was also on the list.

lol! i saw Jang Gwi Hwa and The Faces performance in Lee Hana's Peppermint.
awesome! their songs were pretty cool. haha the guy performed the songs with a super straight face.

I thought that this year was a hard choice, considering Seo Taiji, HyoRi, Rain, TVXQ, and the others makign a great comeback.
but then again, during their absence WG & BB were topping the charts and earning more respective attentions.

2008 was a great year filled with music. Especially because I was caught up with the most current event and music on airplay. 2008 will be a year to mark down in history for me. I can't wait what's in stored for 2009, ESPECIALLY because I'll be in Korea for the first half of the year!

I must really be out of the K-pop scene. None of the artists that won appeal to me, except for maybe Big Bang. Maybe I'm too much of a big fan of ballads.
There are so many underrated musicians on that top 10 list though. I'm such a big fan of: Sung Shi Kyung, Nell, VOS, Gummy, Shin Hye Sung, Son Ho Young.... man, they could have picked anyone else on that list, and it would have made me really happy.
