i think this is the right section?

ok so my dad keeps saying how singers don't sing live. like they do but they put the tape on, turn their mic off, and the singers just sing onto it like its real. i tell them that that's impossible because like wondergirls (no offense) you can tell if their singing live or lipsyncing but he keeps telling me how their not singing still and so i compared lipsyncing and live singing but he still didn't believe me. he says singers without a band always lipsync.. is it true? idk it just annoys me cause i know that boa sings live and whatnot lol so answer my question?
jagiya

its true. they do lip sync
but its not all the time.
they lip sync most times when the dance moves are over the top so they focus on the dance moves instead of singing.
like DBSK- Triangle. they always lip sync when performing it live. boa is featured in the song too, and she lip syncs it.
but i dont agree with the "singers without a band always lip sync"
walkrunfly
now a days people sing live. But most performances have back-up vocals.

edit:

I do not agree with any lip-syncing at all! If your dance moves are too demanding to sing live, then don't do them. Or for the love of God, change it.

I remember reading somewhere that in Japan most singers sing live. Even if the singing ends up horrible because of over-the-top dance moves, or the dance moves become completely lame in order for the performer to sing properly.

^ haha yah they have a lot more lives..

its true that singers sometimes lip syce.
usually to the chorus, but when its their solo, they sing it live
cuz they have bak up solos.
and no,if they have no band playing doesnt mean its not live...
they have a instrumental version or something haha
Flicksityy
They have back up vocals, mostly because they might stuff up from being too occupied if they are somewhat dancing and singing at the same time.

Many singers do lip-sync, especially if they're dancing at the same time because they want to concentrate on getting all of the moves. It would be a shame to have practiced for so long and not be able to perfect the choreography, you know? Dancing could also strain your voice, and then it could just turn into a bad performance. A lot of fans would be disappointed because they want to hear the song the way it was recorded. I know that many people condemn singers who lip-sync, but I think that it's understandable due to the demands of a stage performance.

Singers DO lip-sync...at times though.
They sing live too!
Like DBSK for instance smile.gif They sing live but plays the track as a backup since you know it's REALLY hard singing & dancing at the same time
Plus, singers without a band doesnt mean they dont sing live. They have the instrumental version of the song playing behind or just the track from the album as a backup like i said before.
`Koko
They do lip sync, but not all of the time that they perform.
At times it can be really difficult to sing while dancing certain dance moves.
Dancing is a really good work out, so sometimes you don't have enough breath to even talk -
and nonetheless, sing.
bitter SOOweet
yes and no
there are those performances that you can tell are lipsynced and those that you can tell that are not
like the wonder girls perfs
a lot, if not most of them are live.
u can tell when its lipsynced.
they have back up vocals and thats how uc an tell its live. not just in their case but for other singers.
and some dances are just impossible to sing along to so those are lipsynced
SUMM3RxBABii
mostly they do lip sync...lots of singers do that nowadays to make themselves look good. no offense or anything but there's a lot of people going in the industry these days who are "talentless" and they need that benefit.
step-on-me
Yeah, a lot of singers do lipsynch. But that just makes it easier for them to perform, especially if their songs require them to dance.
Another thing some singers do is to have backup singers who are so loud that they almost overpower the voice of the actual singer.
Tahmnong
Obviously not every artist lipsyncs all the time, but yes, it does occur quite often among pop artists. I think everyone's already covered the basic reasons why already

i know singers lipsync when they need to like if their dance moves are hard to do but like wondergirls nobody they shouldn't have to lipsync cause that dance move is easy and like i can actually tell if their singing live or not because of sohee but my dad keeps telling me how singers without a band sing onto the mic when its off so they don't mess up ugh lol
dolcedor.
Not always true. o.0 You can usually tell when a singer is lip-synching or not, it's really obvious. (ex. not a note out of tune, mic never pops, notes sound exactly as they do in the studio recording, no loud intakes of breath, etc).
