Welcome to the Fox's Dollhouse
Starring: Eliza Dushku
Created by: Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly)
Season premieres FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2009
In
Dollhouse, Eliza Dushku plays a young woman called Echo, a member of a group of people known as "Actives" or "Dolls." The Dolls have had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas, including memory, muscle memory, skills, and language, for different assignments. They're then hired out for particular jobs, crimes, fantasies, and occasional good deeds. On missions, Actives are monitored internally (and remotely) by Handlers. In between tasks, they are mind-wiped into a child-like state and live in a futuristic dormitory/laboratory, a hidden facility nicknamed "The Dollhouse". The story follows Echo, who begins, in her mind-wiped state, to become self-aware.

Joss Whedon's creativity is awesome! will be eagerly following this though I'm not in the US...Eliza is very suited for these kick-ass these roles and I'm getting Jessica Alba/Dark Angel vibes from the show too. OOh excited!!

Soon as I saw Eliza was in it I knew I have to watch it. The show does look promising. Eliza is doing quite a few interviews of late. Here is the one with Conan last night.

Well, to me the concept does not sound too attractive, but I'm gonna watch for Eliza and Joss Whedon. I hope it is interesting enough that I will keep following it.

Joss Whedon is awesome. This show will be on my radar but I probably won't be able to watch it cause I don't think any Australian networks have bought it yet.

First episode was awesome! I can't wait for the next episode too! The episode has a disjointed feeling which fits considering what happens to the 'dolls' every time they finish an engagement. I see many familiar actors and actresses! And Amy Acker!
T__T I wonder what mission that brought about to death of those people who knew Echo? It looks to be her parents...and why the hell is the guy naked??
And man, Tamoh is hot. I knew he can do Muay Thai but seeing him do it is freaking awesome.

^I tuned in for the first episode too! And it was so good...and I agree, the last part was just so weird, and it sure does look like they're her parents or at least people who knew her, because those were family videos. It's kind of sad though...she doesn't even know who they are anymore, and I wonder why she chose to become Echo. The beginning office scene didn't really give me any clues...

Yes, first episode finally came on tonight!!! I was so STOKED!!!!
I think it's gonna be interesting seeing ECHO play all of these different people and personalities...
one thing that confused me though...is...when they program each "Active," do they
actually use other people's personalities who have actually DIED?!! I mean,
do they just wipe out all of their memories and save them so they can program them into
the Actives?? What's up?? lol.
Because I think the guy that was doing the program...said that the girl
whose personality is in Echo died because she didn't escape from her kidnapper??
Something like that...
BUT anywho, loved loved the first episode...can't wait to see more...
Echo and the guy she was with at the beginning was cute

sad her memories
were erased

Those people were definitely people who knew her...I'm guessing they were her parents too...
The beginning office scene, I think...was Echo
before she became Echo. The Dollhouse lady, if you listen carefully,
called Echo "Caroline." I think that was her name before they named her Echo.
The Dollhouse lady was trying to explain to "Caroline" what she would be doing
at the Dollhouse...

The girl who Echo became didn't die as a child...she grew up (after she was thrown into the river) and took on the profession of a kidnapping negotiator. As for the first part, I understood that she was negotiating with the boss of Dollhouse regarding how her actions had consequences, and she was introducing a new life for her...so I'm assuming that in her previous life, she'd done something bad. But nothing in her previous life has been leaked yet...I can't even guess what profession she had because I don't think they've mentioned anything just yet.

My DVR must like Dollhouse more than Terminator 'cause when I woke up, Dollhouse was the only thing left. D: Haha.
Right now, Echo reminds me a little bit of Cameron (Terminator: SCC) with the memory wiping and the personality kind of thing. Even though Sierra (that was her, wasn't it?) only showed up for a few minutes near the end, she's already my favourite character for some reason.
First episodes never excite me so much, same with this series right now. I'll watch a few more until I come up with a better opinion.

a house full of insanely gorgeous people walking around without personalities.....I don't know it seems wrong to me.
But I suppose that's how we're SUPPOSED to feel....it's really up to that one black guy and the mysterious blond guy to redeem this show and help these "dolls" break free, but neither of them seem like strong actors. I get the feeling that they invested everything in Eliza Dushku, which I think is a mistake. As insanely hot as she is, she's not a good actress.

Dushku, Williams and Acker. So gooooooooood.
I never cared for Buffy and Angel, so if it wasn't for Whedon's Firefly/Serenity, I might not have given this show a look.
Friday night death slot = typical Fox move.

Dushku looks like a vampire (something about her mouth and teeth).
The pilot/first ep was OKAY.
I just want to know who that creepy (naked?) guy was sitting on the table watching an old vid of Echo. That piqued my interest (same with the kick boxing scene).

I thought it was an okay episode....kindda bland...
But that naked guy at the end was really creepy. I'm so curious as to who he is.
I felt a really strong emotion when the lids/doors closed up on them when they go to sleep though

YEPS! I agree!!! First episodes never really PULL me in...but for a first episode,
it was pretty good. There's plenty of mysteries and curiosities
to keep us wanting more!
The CREEP at the end has it for Echo. What a weirdo :S

I deff. wouldn't say the pilot was disappointing, but as far as first episodes go, it certainly was not spectacular. The pilot received a lot of bad press in the media, which was truly sad, because I believe given the chance, Dollhouse really has the potential to be something wonderful.
The Friday night scheduling is a bit perplexing, and truly disappointing. But as long as Fox gives this series support and time to grow, I'll be happy. *The wounds from the cancellation of Firefly are still fresh*

But It's Whedon, so it's worth it. Hoping it gets a bit better? I don't mind Eliza Dushku too much... D:

Dollhouse's second episode came on tonight!!!!
I guess they were trying to explain who that CREEPY guy was...
apparently, his name is ALPHA and he was an active too??
At least, that's what we think!!!!!!!
What the heck...how did the perfect date turn into a
hunting game?!?! LOLS! The only thing that irritated me was that
Echo was programmed to have this guy's personality and
abilities...and yet when he went after her, she was HELPLESS...
until the END!
Can't wait for next week's episode! haha...

Just watched the second ep. I have to say that I found this way more interesting than the first one. The first one showed you an interesting set-up, but kind of clichéd situation (with the kindnap/rape imprint). But the second ep was more thrilling and explained a lot, which really helped.
But yeah, I was also like 'huh?' when he was suddenly hunting her. Talk about not-so-smooth transition.
Only downside to me right now is that Dollhouse is just not that funny. In both episodes combined there were only a few not-so-funny jokes. But you know, I kind of expected at least snarky or witty or dry jokes, because to me that's also Joss Whedon. (I know Dollhouse is drama, but frankly, the drama is not that great. The drama mostly comes from the story set-up.)
Also, anyone else feel that the Actives are just getting pimped out? Instead of Dollhouse, I keep thinking of whorehouse.
The concept is still interesting though, so I'll keep watching it for now.

Feb 21 2009, 11:52 AM
Last night's episode was more interesting than the first. But all of sudden, the guy starts hunting Echo? Like wow...talk about a psychopath. So is the Dollhouse organization lying to them that Alpha's been killed? I wonder why they'd do that...cuz it's pretty obvious that he's still out there after the first to episodes. It's getting more interesting because this Alpha guy is linked to Echo, there's a reason behind why he didn't kill her and wants the investigator to find her when he sent him that picture of Echo.

the 2nd ep was sure exciting!
but so weird how some parts do remain in their memories after the wiping...like the shoulder+wheel stuff at the end?

I really like the concept of this show -- and suffice it to say, Joss Whedon rarely disappoints.
However, Eliza Dushku ruins it for me. She's great in those action sequences... but playing vulnerable and blank... she's cringe-worthy.
Agent Ballard is kind of hot. Which reminds me... what was with that character introduction of his girl neighbor?

Goes back to "You can wipe a memory...but you can't wipe a soul"
or something along that line. No matter how you try to erase a person's memories,
some things just stay with you!

i really like the show so far. i watcehd both eps 1 and 2 last night LOL. joss whedon never dissappoints me.
but the whole time i was thinking.. this is a bit like firefly
before you all start yelling at me hear me out.
i am referring to Rivers(Summer Glau) part of the story. how they play with her brain and get her to fight for them.. its very similiar in a sense.
i like it more that way actually, cause its almost like we are watching the other part of FIREFLY

if that made ANY sense to anyone.
eps 2 was really good, when he slept with her then hes like " you have to go, right now", i thought he was gonn help her escape cause, i thought hes gonna fall in love with her or something hahahaha. then hes like. "you have five minutes" * picks up arrows*. iwas like HOLY SHIZ!!!

totally didnt see that one coming , i hahahaha.

I miss the recent episode but I caught I think the one before that where she was going on a date with this guy then ended up being in some kind of twisted date game where he hunted her. anyway, what's with the police? is he her boyfriend or something? I think little by little, she's remembering what she did

can't wait to watch rerun of the latest episode
