Wait..didn't Se7en make his debut already? Or did it get postponed....again....?
sweetgirl_121
^I think it was, but I'm not sure
angelixer
First Charice (the girl got David Foster and Opes behind her, enough said), then MAYBE Rain (waits for the movie) or Se7en (I'll wait until his video is released, but I'm very skeptical)... I'm not sure about BoA yet (the reception for Eat U Up was meh, plus that accent is still waaay too thick for a lot of people to fully get in to).
miss scarlett
Utada Hikaru is also coming back. Well, she released (two?) albums in the US before, but she wasn't that successful...

LOL personally I think it will be Charice. She's doing great. Her voice is just too amazing to miss.
Maybe BoA as well. She seems to be doing okay so far... well, at least better than Se7en.
Chakra'ca
I wish an actual Asian American would make it big in America.

I don't really care if any of them become popular but since Rain, BoA, and Charice have all had some publicity, things are looking better for them than they are for Se7en, even though he was on some CD right?

BoA's chances seem to be ok, I know a lot of people who had no idea who she was before and now really like Eat You Up.
China-doll
most likely Charice..she's already adored by a lot of popular americans..ie oprah
LucasBunny
At this point Boa can forget it
SM better try again.

I can't really say, as much talent alot of the artists have it comes down to promotion.

Rain will known as an actor which I think will help him as a singer, SE7EN could have been successful if he had decent management, it saddens me because I know boy has talent off teh chain and he can't expose it right sad.gif
Spiffy Girl
Charice will probably be the most successful. She's working with the American producer who worked on Andrea Bocelli! Now that's a team that will make a star succesful!
ayuki baby
Charice, duh .. I think the picture of her with Celine and Oprah is proof enough

Yeah and she probably has a lot more appeal because she's young. Like "oh my god she's so amazing and she's young!". I think we all gush more over kids with amazing talents.
crunkyp0p
In my opinion, Utada and Charlice are the only one that have a chance to make it big in the US
Charlice because she has gotten alot of exposure in big shows and with other big celebrities.
Utada because she seriously have talent and she is American born, people might be more willing to accept her and she speaks english.

In America, all you really need to hit it big is publicity and catchy songs, and of couse english skills.
kiki
Charice is making it in America.
she's got A LOT of big strong supporters.
I love Charice. =)
PockyUpNose
charice already made it LOL, BoA should be next in line.
Tonyc402
Utada could make it a lot farther then where Boa is , and thats due to the fact that shes American born , doesnt have an english accent and she has a lot better vocals as well. As for Rain , he hasnt done much in his singing career in America but has been focusing on acting from what I see.

To be honest , I dont really give a crap for overseas Asian artists to make it to the American music scene . I'd very much rather see more Asian American talent coming out .

charice definitely ..
the girl can sing, has charisma, and can dance (although not of pop star caliber yet)

boa.. i guess she has the potential..
although i don't like sm, he's a genius and definitely knows what he's doing
but its just boa herself that's the setback
her engrish is not pleasing to the ears and her vocal capabilities are very questionable

se7en? lol he should just really forget it
however, from what i've seen..
out of the hopefuls from korea, he can actually converse in english naturally
*cringes as she remembers boa*
the problem is.. him and his music..
its mediocre.. mediocre.. oh and mediocre..
he looks like a mega wannabe..
seriously, why pick the mediocre wannabe when you've already got the real thing there (usher, chris brown, justin timberlake etc etc)

rain is so-so
he's getting the best publicity out of the korean hopefuls.. not as a singer/entertainer but as just himself, rain
if he continues the acting path, he looks like he'll do well.. not as phenomenal as he did in asia though

utada hikaru.. should just stay in japan

bystander
I really think Rain should stick to movies.
He has potential to be the next asian action star.

It'd be nice if Se7en makes an impact, but RMQ is not doing a great job handling his debut.
Also, the songs they give him aren't "great".
He definitely has talent though.

Agree.

I really think Rains got the voice to make it in America and the style but he just needs to get the English down to become really successful.
jingaling.
i hope utada does better this time. she could make it big here~

charice, mainly because she's started singing with the big stars already
she's a guest at popular tv shows and have overseas popularity
and the fact that america likes her and praises her as the next diva

ive also read that her manager is Bocelli's manager too!
David Foster always brings her in all of his gigs
(Oscar's after party. Charities, semi concerts/shows)

haha. and dont forget
about Oprah stopping a plane that was about to take off just to get charice
Bethany
Charice will make it first because of her vocals and she got Oprah. Oh, and her English is fluent, which means she'll be able to connect

with the audience better. Go Charice!!! cool.gif
akr49
^^ she's really not that fluent (vocab wise) but of course she will learn quick and no heavy accent
oohdi
oh wow that fingerprint song by charice is really good!
i think she has the best chance of making it big out of the list you gave
boa.. her voice is weak to me..and her accent is =\ i cant get into her eat you up song.
goodnessgracious
NO ONE. Charice maybe, but I bet people will loose interest in her as fast as she reaches puberty. There is absolutely no chance for Se7en, Rain and Boa to become popular outside Asia. The only ones interested in them are Asians and Asian-wannabes. People should stop dreaming. Asian pop music is not gonna become popular in the West anytime soon. BoA might be a pop-princess of Asia, but she is no competition to Britney and Rihanna. It is not about talent. Entertainment industry is a battlefield for producers and their money. There is no way SM and YG can come anywhere near Jay-Z and the likes.
I do think however, that someone like Clazziquai can gain some recognition in the West. Their music is not mainstream, but thair sound is very fresh and unique. They can definitely become known in the West with the right amount of promotion. Look at Teryaki Boyz. They are not that popular, but their music was recognised by some big people in the Hip-Hop industry.

BOA: She needs a lot more english lessons before she actually think about competing in the high stream American market. I was listening to some of her interviews in English, and I was very disappointed. She kept going umm.. um... Probably some public speaking classes would help her. Her song "Eat You Up" was annoying. It didn't show talent or vocal strength. I just didn't like it. All I heard were beats and I didn't pay for a CD to hear beats :/ She has a NO for me!

SE7EN: What can I say. The boy is cute! I watched some of the fancam from fans at the club. His english is good. It is not perfect, but if he continues to work at it. I can see great improvement. I was listening to his song "Girls." I like it at the beginning, but as I continue to listen to it. It was catchy anymore. I don't know. He has a maybe for me.

RAIN: His dancing is amazing. He was lots of talent and potential to make it in the Asian market. I don't know about American music, maybe acting? I haven't watched his American movie/s yet. I can't wait to check out his acting. I listened to some interviews of him speaking english. He still needs a lot of improvemnt if he wants to be able to converse with interviews and American audience, in general.

CHARICE: I am going for Charice! She is definitely going to go far with that strong and powerful voice! Oprah is helping her out, so she is going to be big. She has already sang with America's greatest artists such as Celion Dion. She is heading to the top thats for sure.
SongBird
Eh. Out of the people in the list, I think Se7en has a good chance. But I still feel that an American born Korean singer might fare out better than a singer with a language barrier.
seryberry
im sorry but i dont think there is a chance for se7en, rain or boa....i mean look at jin the chinese rapper, what the heck happened to him????

i dont kno who charisse is.
CitrusFlower
Boa.. Maybe, some people who had no idea who she is now know her because of "eat you up" Se7en... not a chance to me, like others have mention he seems like a wannabe and trying to come out like Usher and stuff which we don't need, not to mention after years in the state he still hasn't done much promotion I think he would get alot more done in Asia but since he wants to make it big in America so bad good luck to him.

Asian American have a better chance, with the right songs and right promotion their can be a big Asian star.
anjaigirl26
yah charice has the biggest chance among the list to go far in american industry....

and if you want an american-asian singer???

i would go for RIN ON THE ROX....they have amazing voices.... RIN is 100% filipino and ROXANNE is half filipino half white.. and they are american born...... check em out on youtube... they have been in ELLEN SHOW thrice .......

another one is JENNIFER CHUNG she's korean american born..... she has a powerfull voice..sad thing is she hasnt been recognize yet... i love her original songs......

ok i would also like to include.... JASMINE VILLEGAS, JESSICA SANCHES, THIA MEGIA, GABBY WILSON...... check em out in youtube......
as for JESSICA she's a finalist in AGT and GABBY WILSON is under the help of SNOOP DOGG's ENTERTAINMENT.....

boa's accent is wayy too thick, i dont know about rain or se7en
i dont see much in the future for them .___.

actually Jin in doing stuff in Hong Kong.

and also have to agree that its almost impossible.
charice has the best chance, if she sings with Disney or something.
i don't think singing alone can make her, especially at her age.
JJ no Baka
At first I'd say Hikaru Utada. Then I went to listen to Charice because I never heard of her. Let's just say she made an impression on me. smile.gif
rumpshaker
My money is on Charice. I think that most people are so amazed by her, because she has received no formal training and she has SO much talent at such a young age. There wasn't any company behind her, making her train for years before she got the chance to "debut", she just went and did her thing and look where she is now. Her career is pretty much set for the time being, all we have to do now is wait for her to release an album. I just listened to her "Fingerprint" clip that someone posted earlier and was pleasantly surprised to hear that it's a rather upbeat song. I was expecting her to jump into the Adult Contemporary category to please all the housewives that love her, but I actually liked the song.

What I've heard from Boa's upcoming album seems pretty redundant and boring. I can see it being popular in the clubs, though.
Cherry-sama
I don't know who Charice is, but if she's already recognized by America becacause of Oprah, she probably has the biggest shot.

Utada Hikaru has the second best shot, since she's already released English albums in the US in the past. That. and she's fluent in the language. I can see her doing...well. Not great, and probably not even acknowledged by most Americans, either way.

BoA, in my opinion, has a chance... with a better company, and a further imrpovement on her English accent (I think she's at least reached chinatown level. XD). Her song, Eat you Up, wont do it for the whole debut or anything. It'd sound better in Korean, let's face it. XD I do hope to see her do well. biggrin.gif

As for Se7en, I don't believe he'll ever debut. XD And his songs, while they're likeable, they're forgettable. they aren't Top ten material. Not even close. I'll support him and all, but i think he needs to step it up a lot. XD

And Rain? I didn't even know he was debuting. :x IMO, he's not very good-looking, but his songs are pretty good (Korean ones, i mean.). Since he's been doing a lot of acting, he has a chance. Maybe. Not much, though.

Jane Zhang aka Zhang Liangying

I was hoping that she'd be on the list. Her voice is absolutely amazing, on par with Mariah Careys, her range and tone quality are beautiful. She can also sing in several languages. You can still tell she has an accent in English, but if she worked on it a bit, she'd definitely lose that.

pandoras0nymph
right now the only asian singer i know making waves in US that is not included in the list is Arnel Pineda of The Journey.
anjaigirl26
^^^^^ yah i forgot about ARNEL PINEDA..JOURNEY'S comeback has been very succesfull..
kinchin123
lol I think Arnel can't be counted coz he already debuted...
Angel88
I think ONLY asians who're able to speak good eng with clear and proper pronunciations should debut in America =.=
Other than that.. they're probably making fools of themselves.. *shrugs*
elainee
Charice of course she is already pretty popular and was featured on Oprah, Ellen and other shows plus she performed with many big stars and she performed in a oscar after party she is gonna be the biggest in my opinion
festo
I have a feeling Rain will succeed. I'm from Australia and most of my white friends know of him.

Good luck to them all
susongie
Charice is such a LUCKY girl. She get to sing with Celine Dion^_^...Charice, you are a FABULOUS singer...

If I were to rank the ones listed,

1. Charice - She has the ability to impress people with her voice and has bigshots backing her up. She's already made progress by getting on mainstream shows like Oprah, Ellen, Good Morning America and has been featured on Fox News, E!, PBS and other shows. She also gets invited to sing at high profile events.

2. BoA - From what I've heard so far, her American songs sound hit-worthy and once people catch on, I think she can make it because she's the package. Her voice may be average but she'll attract people with her dancing and she has the looks.

3. Utada - I don't know, I guess I'll have to listen to her album first. Her first single Come Back To Me sounds good but for a serious song, some of the lyrics made me go wtf. Her vocals are too shaky at times.

4. Rain - He has a movie coming out and that might get him good exposure. He's been recognized in American media as a Korean superstar.

5. Se7en - It seems like he doesn't have anyone powerful backing him up and in America, you need that.

Se7en is much more talented than Rain, the fans are the ones who put rain where he is, se7en is much smarter his English is on spot, se7en people are doing their best and he stills has powerful people on his side.
