wooot! finally a thread for the freshmens!
i was gonna make one but i was scared lols.

anyways, this year has been a tough but fun year(; it was definitely a big transition from a middle schooler to a high schooler. my teachers are great. i can't ask for a better one =D but i'll def miss them next year cuz we only have 4 months left till were almost sophomores *sigh*

my dream right now is to get into nursing. but my absolute realistic goal right now is to get all 4.0 throughout high school so i can get a free ride to one of the CSU's. so far, im on the right track 8)

here's my list for next year's term :
AP Psychology
AP World History
Algebra 2
Dance 3-4
English Honors
Chemistry
Spanish 1-2 or Piano 1-2 or Guitar 3-4 (not sure yet D: )

thankfully we still have a month or two left to decide our schedule.

i'm glad freshmen year is almost over!
its not like i dont like it, i just dont want to be look down as the little freshman.

i dont know what courses im taking next year cuz im so indecisive.
but i know i'm definitely doing graphics and spanish honors.

highschool is so amazing. i absolutely love it <3

O: A freshmen thread! Haha. I feel like we're going to get pulverized by the upperclassmates at any given time, haha.

What's everyone's schedule like? I have Honors English 9, Honors Bio, Honors Geometry, French 2, Health/Computer Operations, and PE.

So, I believe my school's going to start our registration next week, maybe? Or the week after, but my schedule is already pretty set:

Honors (AP? I'm not sure if they're offering it as an honors or an AP class) Chemistry

The transition from junior high to high school was kind of...a wake-up call, but I'm just not motivated for school really. I feel like I'm just bs-ing through it all, and personally, I don't want that. I want to fix it...but no motivation. Ugh. If there was one thing I could change about my teachers, it would definitely be them motivating students. I mean, half of my teachers just sit there and give us work (English, Computers, Science, but it's a good thing I like English and Computers). How the heck would we find the will to succeed? The workload is only going to get worse, and I am definitely not look forward to that. D:

I want to work somewhere in the language department. I think it'd be pretty cool to be an English teacher in Taiwan, or a graphics designer for some sort of company.

1. Do you guys have Spirit Week? And did you guys dress up?
We definitely had Spirit Week, and we ownedddd. Haha. We tied first with seniors for the skit, second for spirit and all the decorations and things, but then we got fourth for canned food drive (....XD). Spirit's huge at my school, so, we all for the most part dressed up lol.

2. Was high school what you thought it would be, or completely different?
Mhm, more or less for me. I knew the work was going to pile up, but I was freaked out about upperclassmen for a while, but they just ignore freshmen, so it's all good. Haha.

meteorstarbb829: freshmen year has passed by so fast. such an amazing year. and omg, i will miss my freshman teachers too! they were amazing and soo funny. i love teachers who are so close to the students up to the point where they swear in every sentence haha. aww you're lucky =( i have like 2 weeks in june. but hey, we will have more days off due to upperclassmen testing (:

indigo_sky: i am so jealous of you. taking so many honors. i am only taking one right now and i'm still deciding if i should. i mean, i know i should pick a level that is just right for me but i really want to challenge myself. but good luck with those classes! and registration has already started for me. i actually thought the transition was pretty smooth. junior high definitely prepared us for it. and it was far from what i expected. so much better!

spirit week was such a fun week. and yeah, a lot of people do it because we love our school a lot <3 wooot go tigers!

As for classes for next year I can only decide so far cause if I am taking summer classes my schedule would be different. But for sure I am going to be taking 7 periods next year

Was high school what you thought it would be, or completely different?
High school was, high school. No other word for it. It wasn't as a big as a transition for me as people made it seem. But overall, more freedom was given, and that's a big plus. Social wise, nothing too big is going on. I'm honestly at the moemnt just trying to focus on education period. Nothing more and to bring my gpa up. Our school is pretty lame anyways, our events are hardly huge or anything.

What do u think of the way High school teachers'teach?
Its different for every teacher. Some of them are just wonderful and teach me a lot. others just throw work at me and expect it to be done at a certain time and the we get tested on it. I like some, I dislike some. But one thing, they definitely don't baby you like the teachers did in middle school.

What is your dream right now or future?
Its kind of far off, but I'd love to go to Stanford. It's hard to get in and costs a lot. I'm more worried financially. I would like to be a pediatric oncologist. If that doesn't work out my fall back is a pediatrician.

What is your school's mascot?
Eagles. And the school is called Eagle's Landing High school.

The last class i have to take it after school: Beginning Chinese
I tried to double up most of the classes, so that i can take Honor and AP classes in my junior and senior years.

ermmm.... It in between for me.. Most of my friends is upperclassmen, so they kinda helps me around the school. I actually don't have many homework to do ) cuz. most of my stuff gets done in grade room.

yeah we had spirit week ^^ it was really fun. there was nerd day, mix it up day, pajama day, switch it up day...uhm i forgot the rest xD but it was really interesting. i didn't really dress up though i just participated on the nerd day

it was completely different from what i imagined. i thought it would be like the ones in movies but uhm...it was really fun.

i'm currently attending a Art based high school. that's why we have more fine arts than other schools (; oh really? we didn't get called up yet and im glad cuz im still deciding :/ i know! i feel the same way XD high school was great. the upperclassman def picked on us but ahahha it's our turn next year so it's all good ! jk ~~

Ours school expect to have the minimum of 135 credits to pass the freshmen year...

we do. we have a portfolio for our art stuff cuz many art universities look for that so they push us to make one. hahaha. i want to major in art but at the same time....i want to become a doctor ><; im still confused with my life. we'll see in a couple of years =D

no, we do not need credits to pass freshmen year. all you need is a D or better. but to graduate high school, you need 240 credits in all 4 years and stuff like ROP and summer courses at city colleges count. i still haven't done my community service hours. i was planning to do them this year but the library was full. i wasn't old enough to work as a volunteer at the hospital. nor am i not that interested in beach cleanups ><; i'll do mine sophomore year cuz i can't do them over the summer. (going on a vacation) but im sure that i'll suffer mega hard cuz im taking APs next year ><; plusss drivers ed >:O

random but they changed the age limit to get the actual license here in CA.
i could get my permit next year though.... aigoo.

I wanted to take it easy next year, but my parents are like x_____x "take honors chem!" So I'm pretty much killing myself over by taking all these classes. x_x I heard Honors Chem is math-based, and it's also the central science, so, ick. >< And then AP Euro, we have to take a lot of notes. So, that really sucks. D: Yeah, I think it's good to just find your own level, but challenging yourself is always good too. Maybe you could go for another honors class? You never know. Haha (:

HUSKIESSSS (: orange and black, haha. We're the oldest school in the city, so, we used to be called the Cornhuskers. Hahaha.

Credits
We get 10 credits for two-semester courses, 5 for one semester courses. Students usually get 60 credits per year, since we only have six periods in a day. The graduation requirement is 230 credits, but we end up with 240. We also need 40 community service hours to graduate. And we have to take like, 3 years foreign language, 2 years fine arts, 2 lab sciences, 3 math courses, 4 english, 2 (or 3? i forgot) history classes, 2 years pe, to meet the requirements to apply for UC schools.

man, lucky for all ya'll who don't need community service.
but still, it would look good on the portfolio. i've done 1 so far and it's almost the end of the year x____x

actually, i want to become a nurse. i heard most of them make more than doctors.(well if you have experience and the types of stuff you have a degree on) idek. im still deciding. totally confused with life. i don't know what i really want to be....yet :/

At my school (and I think for my school district also) we have to fufill these 'A-G requirements' that show how many years you have to take a certain class. And also, because I'm in a special program I have to have like a certain number of AP classes to take and etc. I can't think of the rest atm, lol. All I remember is that I have to take a foreign language for 3 years T___T.

I don't remember how many credits they give, but I think the total comes to 240 credits by the time I'm a senior. & I'm also one of those people that have to do community service to graduate 40 hours in total. T__T. I haven't started on mines at all

well, A-G isn't really required to graduate, but they push you anyways. and 90% of the school meets the A-G requirement by senior year.

completely different A lot happened from just the first day of high school... It was probably one of the worst days of my life.
I did make some new friends, but I kinda lost my best friend from middle school T____T

High school was never the best when it started. My best friends are scattered I hate my school lol. There's no originality in the individuals and there's too many "over-exaggerated" preppy girls x___x The policies and a lot of the old teachers are retarded....

As you know budget cuts are coming due to the recession, so new question(:
How are you and your school dealing with the budget cuts?
For me well our district is thinking of cutting sports, but definitely we're fighting not to.
So next year there's going to be a fee that athletes are going to pay if you're on a sport team.



& one more question just to keep this thread going.
College/University you hope to get accepted into?
Cornell, Columbia --> I know, but a girl can dream about it, since I want to be a surgeon.
and any UC or USC.

our school is pretty small and nothing drastic happened. but they did cut off 1 teacher so far.
and uhm...their being really cheap with paper, ink and stuff like that.

im hoping to get into Stanford Uni. just like a few, i can dream myself but i know i can do it : D
i was thinking of going to San Jose State Uni as my last resort. i plan to go to yonsei (korea)
during my sophomore college year. idk. it really depends on what happens in the future

Yea, ours school have that stupid rule 2 .. wearing uniform...
(but most of the time, i don't even bother to follow the rule ) cụz. HS teachers don't care much about it.{except for the old teachers.. they really strict about it) as long the clothes are not too revealing, the teachers not going to say n-thing.

I have my 4sight at the end of every months. :cry: (i hate the reading part the most.. some of the questions they gives us almost the same answer, and i don't know which multiple choice to pick ) zzzzz...

really? I live in Cali too, but PSATs are for everyone. This year I took it, wasn't so bad, but the words really got me.

i was part of the asian culture club but it was impossible for me to stay committed to it.
now they are having an asian culture night soon. i am definitely going but i feel guilty for not putting work into it.

I guess those tests only required in my state (pennsylvania)
It's a test that they gives you and see your progress of each months and determined the classes level for next year

i believe PSAT's are free. but then again, i don't have to worry about it till sophomore year.

Lols, how is that racist? There's other ethnic clubs at my school. I just can't seem to think of them atm, lol.
It's funny how the supervisor of the club was Caucasian. Or at least, that was what I was told. It was because his wife was Filipino I guess :b

like there's the mexican, african american, asian-pacific islanders, filipino, korean, japanese, chinese and there's even a cambodian club or something like that. it's actually pretty normal here in california. based from my experience, people join based on where they belong. but there's other ethnicity that join in just for the heck of it. like i see a few caucasian people once in a while in a japanese club. so i hope this clears up...the racism ? lol.

of course this depends on where you live.
it's typical on big diverse, populated states. ^^

How are you and your school dealing with the budget cuts?
Uh. It seems like my district's doing the worst compared to you guys.
About 90 teachers were about to be cut in a district next to ours (they
only have about five elementary schools and one middle school, one
high school, but the cut is being delayed). My district is considering
and more like almost positively cutting art programs, technology and
elective classes (like health, computers, woodshop, etc). I believe
teachers have to pay an amount per copy or something, and honestly,
it's just horrible. >_____<

College/University you hope to get accepted into?
I'm probably not going to be accepted into some huge UC school like Davis,
LA, or Berkeley, but I really want to go to a university in Taiwan or somewhere
in England or France (since I'm taking French as my foreign language)

Yeah, we can pretty much start taking it at any time, as long as you pay the fee
(PSAT) and it's optional. It's mainly just a test to see where you would stand on
the real SAT.

Did you play/join a sport this year?
Always played basketball, but I didn't join it. I wanted to join badminton with all
my friends too, but I didn't have time. Might next year though.

Were you in any clubs?
Environmental. And I kind of sort of checked out Interact, American Red Cross,
and Key, except eh, it didn't work out too well. I'm not that assertive lol.
