I haven't found a thread for this yet. So, i've decided to create a thread for all you paddlers out there.
I just started paddling last year. At first, I didn't like it very much because it's so energy draining. But half a year later, I'm pretty much in love with it. I paddle for CYC. What about you guys?

^ You mean dragon boat race?
sorry that water sport is not recognized as international sport.

It's more cultural outdoor event than being in sport chat.
Move it to cultural area because there are few other water sports similar to dragon boat race.

yup. I don't know if your applying to any other uc's but for sure ucsd, ucla, berkeley, and uci along with usc all have dragonboat teams. I *think* davis has a team too but I don't know for sure. I paddle right side also! my left side is now unproportional to my left now wacko.gif

orisaki,
dragonboat is a type of sport categorized under rowing. it became an international sport in 1976, popularized in hong kong. Although dragon boat racing is primarily practiced in only a few nations: Asia, North America, and Canada, nothing in this section of the forum states that only international sports threads can be created. This sport takes a very large amount of discipline, energy and practice. To call it merely an outdoor event- is almost insulting.

fatwalrus!
I did get in to irvine. and it's very likely that I'm attending. Irvine elements WOOT.

the big race April Youth Race is in 2 days- SF- lake merced from 8-4. =D
i hope my team dominates ;p

whoaaa, awesome, I was just looking to see if there was a thread for dragon boat! haha. I started a year ago as well. It's pretty awesome... gives you such an adrenaline rush. I'm so much more in shape now, too. It works every part of your body. People think it's just the arms, but it's not. You have to have good leg drive and a strong core for rotation! I don't know why people don't call it a sport. ANYONE can paddle. It's not just a cultural thing. It is pretty much a water sport. There ARE international festivals dedicated to this sport! It brings teams from all over the world. Pretty awesome.
Same here, at first, I was totally drained!! But I learned to love it. It's really fun. CYC is pretty good.. oh, I'm from SF too, I paddle for Galileo, but will paddle for Cal next year, lol. LONG BEACH NEXT WEEEK!! smile.gif Lol I went to Vancouver for the Rio Tinto Alcan festival earlier this summer, too. Very fun.

Good Job Galileo for doing quite awesome @ Long Beach. Your tents were right next to ours.

im quite devastated that i won't be watching the sf international dragon boat festival this year.
which is on Sept 26, and 27th - if anyone was interested in watching @ treasure island.
