Just picked up a Dell Inspiron desktop for photo editing - my laptop is having a lot of heat management issues. I get kinda surprised every time I buy a computer nowadays.. everything seems so cheap. 2.5 GHz dual core, 3gb RAM, 320gb HD for $300 flat, shipped. Compared to when I was a kid, I think all the computers were like $1500, and you had to build your own stuff if you wanted a decent price.

^ Thats a screaming deal~ You still have to build your own if you start to go in to high end and more complex set ups but yeah for the majority of consumers, going retail is definitely cheaper.

My recent toy/purchase back in December was a Canon 5Dii and the 24-70L lens. Loving it~ Also just bought a EVGA Gtx 295 graphics card 2 weeks ago.

^ Really? I can't really tell the real world difference between component and hdmi (in terms of picture quality) to any noticeable degree. Sure if you zoom in and really analyze the picture, you'll come up with benefits but sitting a couple of feet back on my couch, it looks the same to me. *shrugs*

Didn't tell anyone I just packed up and left for a week. My employees were wondering where I was that day, called them from Chicago O'Hare airport and told them I needed a vacation

Actually I flew up to go surprise my girlfriend and family. I just needed a vacation from all the work. The recession has caused a lot of programs and loaded me with work. So I just told my employees to try to take care of things while I'm gone and I'll handle the rest when I'm back. Now I'm back and I'm overloaded lol.

Lol - we got our bonus at work last month so I used a little of it. I see it as "boostiing the economy". At least I didn't go nuts and buy that Kate Spade bag that I've been eyeing for the last month.

my last big buy was my new pc. It's a quad core 2.67GHz, with 6 gigs of memory and a GTX260 896Mb geforce graphics card as well as a 5.1 sound system and a 22in widescreen monitor. All up it was about 1600pounds (US$2300). I'm showing off I know, sue me =P

I remember when I first saw the photo of the white M8 -- I stared at my silver M8.2 and all of a sudden, it looked dirty

I could have bought a 24in or a 27in wide but that would have reallu pushed the price up. The other consideration is that the larger the screen the further back you have to sit and anything bigger than the 22in would have been too close to my eyes which are bad enough as it is. My left eye is -5.25 in short sightedness although my right is -1.25.... I'd rather not have my eyes get any worse

I was in AC yesterday, was hung up over buying some crazy BV bag I wanted.. my gf kinda persuaded me that it's not worth it though.

About to buy tickets to Barcelona for 5/31-6/7, and then tickets to New Orleans 6/8-8/30. Also, just won a Polaroid SX-70 on Ebay. Looking forward to my summer after my first semester of graduate school. All I need right now is money to spend while I'm in Barcelona and New Orleans.

Diesel is having a 30% store-wide sale right now.. that hasn't helped me at all. Sigh.

^May I ask why you bought the SX-70? Polaroid's stopped producing film for that camera for many years now

The cost of the second pair of sunglasses would have bought me 2.5 kate spade bags but I really really loved these more than the bag. I was dreaming about those glasses so I went back and bought them the next day. And the shoes were on sale at Nordstroms and I really love the red (very pretty), plus it matched the outfit I was wearing yesterday so it was a total impulse buy (I seriously need to stop shopping.)

Very expensive film: Polaroid 6000 film with a cut density filter makes it work. If I don't end up using it I'll at least let it sit there pretty, but I'll at least use one box of Polaroids with. It's so expensive. I didn't get into Polaroids until after they stopped producing it, hopefully they or a third party decides to start manufacturing it again.

I'll stick to my lovely 120-film cameras for now.. love them! I'm looking/thinking about a Mamiya right now .. RB67 or 645. Cameras and photography has become such an expensive hobby.

But I'm no where near you! No way I could afford a $5k camera .. nor all of those lenses and dslr bodies you have that I've seen in the DSLR thread.

Yeah I have the ND filter on my SX-70 as well but I still don't shoot with it because $15 for a pack of 600 film just seems ridiculous but other people don't seem to mind. It's sitting in my drawer collecting dust

And yes, the M8.2 did cost $6000 for the body alone, but it's worth every penny to me If someone told me I had to get rid of either my M8.2 or my 5D Mark II, it'd be the 5D Mark II getting listed on eBay

Wow.. you guys have an amazing camera budget.. I don't think I would spend that much for anything besides clothes / accessories.

Anyone heard anything about the Pentax K200D? Or Pentax in general?.. I was thinking of getting this for an entry-level DSLR. Seems to have some good features.. but everyone seems to recommend Canon/Nikon.

Pentax is good too -- it's just not as mainstream as Canon or Nikon.

And it's only that our priorities are different -- I really save up where I can (clothes, food, etc) and spend on things I want to spend on (photography and gadgets). I'm sure I'll probably freak out at your clothes/accessories budget

I want to get a Canon EOS40D.... I saw a Photographer of the year exhibition at the Natural History Museum in London... it was one massive ad for Canon, the vast majority of the entries were done with canons with a smattering of Ricohs, Nikons, Fujis and Pentaxs. The image quality of the Canons were simply astounding... I want one!
