G.E.M.'s mother and grandmother were professional opera singers, and under their guidance, G.E.M. grew up with the desire to pursue in singing and performing. She began writing music when she was 5 and when she was 10, she began entering singing competitions. She's also a very gifted pianist, having finished grade 8 when she was 13. When she was 14, G.E.M. entered the "Spice-It-Up" singing contest, which won her a recording contract with Hummingbird Music.

In her debut EP (mini album), she wrote the lyrics to "Waiting for Him", "Where Did U Go", "Sleeping Beauty" and composed "Memories of the Hourglass" and "Sleeping Beauty."

She literally swept the HK's music scene last year and has won many new-artist awards. She's also going into the acting and dancing fields. She just finished a movie with William Chan. She is currently preparing for her first album, and it is estimated to be released in the summer.

I LOVE "Dang Yat Goh Ta" (did I spell this correctly?)! That's my favourite song from her and I feel like I'm the only one who thinks so, haha. I keep on smiling when she pets the panda head in the MV. I don't get why the person is wearing a panda head. O.o Could somebody explain the video a little more? I know no Cantonese whatsoever. ;_;

I'm glad to see more fans on soompi! This girl is not the best, but she's quite the power. She can control her voice fairly well, and her lives are done well. G.E.M. is like a younger HK version of Zhang Li Yin

I don't know what's with the panda, but the song is about someone trying to express her feelings to a boy. Something like that o_o I don't know what's with the panda though LOL It was cute... her panda also shows up in "Where Did U Go"

Anyways, this is the live performance that made me become an instant supporter of G.E.M. A live performance of "Lady Marmalade" with Teresa Carpio! An amazing strong performance! Her English wasn't so good, but with time and practice she can get to the top in no time =D

I just heard a little bit of her mini-album yesterday. I think she has pretty strong vocals, and I'm definitely gonna listen t some of her other songs today. XD (I just think it's ironic I only heard about her yesterday on LJ, and here 's a topic. XD)

If you guys haven't heard of it yet, here's the remix of "Where Did U Go." It's included in the 3rd edition of her G.E.M. EP which is still selling now. Although I like the original version more, this remix is also really nice

That remix isn't that bad. I quite like it.

I like the remix, but there's one thing that irked me, they took out the really long Where Did U GOOOOOOOOOOO part, that's one of my favorite parts! XD

Besides G.E.M., the other guests were Meng Yao and Amanda S. I haven't really started watching yet, but when they first introduced the guests, Ronald tested them on some Cantonese tongue twisters with the excuse of claiming that they're Cantonese wasn't so good ^^ Meng Yao is a Mandarin-speaker, and Amanda speaks English and French. It's funny how G.E.M. is the most fluent Cantonese speaker out of the three (well, she is a native lol) but Meng Yao did slightly better than her in terms of speed, although Meng Yao had an accent. XD Amanda S also did realy well lol

I'll update more later when I finish watching the episode! Their theme was Chaozhou food.
