PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME
PLOT Based on the video game, which follows an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world (IMDB)
CASTJake Gyllenhaal - Prince Dastan
Gemma Arterton - Tamina
Ben Kingsley - Nizam
Alfred Molina - Sheik Amar
Behind the Scenes Footage________________________________
It's unfair. Ryan Reynolds has a buff body, Hugh Jackman has a buff body...now Jake Gyllenhaal has a buff body. ENVY! :@
But seriously, this movie looks like it has the potential to be the best video game to movie adaptation ever. Unfortunately, I probably won't get to see Gyllenhaal decapitate some enemies in bloody fashion because it's a Walt Disney picture. Nonetheless I can expect some great action scenes and enjoy a purely entertaining film (from the looks of it so far). At it's heart, PoP was always just an adventure game (mostly talking about the original side scroller here) and it looks like they're doing good on the adventure aspect. (Y)
And because it's a Walt Disney picture produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, I can expect it to be very Pirates of the Caribbean-esque.

Naveen Andrews? Oh hellz yes he would have been rad.
I mean I don't have any specific actor(s) in mind but I really wish they could have gone for a more Middle Eastern looking actor. Really childish I know, but still....

I'll doubt they'll ruin it. Highly doubt it.
I mean it's being overseen by Jerry Bruckheimer who has produced movies like Pirates of the Carribbean (a critically and commercially successful movie made entirely from a Disney ride), Bad Boys 2 and King Arthur. If anything this project will be worth seeing and looks really entertaining.
Just don't expect it to be bloody like the newer games. I will remind people however that PoP was never about the bloodshed and carnage. The first few PoP games were action/adventure side scrollers; successful ones too. The Prince will have the look of the newer PoP games but will retain the feel of all the other PoP games made. Besides, this one is being adapted mostly from the Sands of Time game anyway which wasn't bloody at all if I remember correctly.

Did anyone hear that
they showed footage at D23?? Apparently it was super intense, lots of awesome special effects and word is that they incorporated parkour into the fight scenes (remember the scene from Casino Royal where Bond is running thru that construction area, bouncing from one beam to the next – that’s parkour!) Sounds like Bruckheimer really did the video game justice.
Oh and not to bore you guys with a long history lesson on Persia, but Jake is actually perfectly in line with what an ancient Iranian would look like – did you know that back at the time when the film is based, Persians were mostly ancestors of Northern Europe? (just like Jake!) I am kind of surprised that no one has pointed out how fitting Jake is for the role, considering that Arabs and Mongols didn’t arrive til way after the timing of this film. Just wanted to get that set straight.

Have you seen any of his movies? He got great reviews in Jarhead, Zodiac and of course there is his role in Donnie Darko. So many different genres and he still delivers - considering his resume, I think he'll bring a lot to the character, you know?

If you read thru that trailer review I posted before, I think you’ll see there is reason to be excited. And considering how much I love Pirates of the Caribbean which was also produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, I am optimistic that this will be a great film – hopefully that same mix of action and comedy just like Pirates!

the original cover of the game:

and
The Fresh Prince of Persia
(found this picture and thought it was so funny lol)

anyway, I'm really so excited about this movie. I love Jake Gyllenhaal, Mike Newel as the director just thrilled me and with Jerry Bruckheimer on board nothing should go wrong! but I'm a little bit worried it will suck! I love the game to pieces and I will hate it if the movie won't do justice to it! so I'm expecting to see all of the amazing uses of the dagger of time (freeze, slow motion, turn back time... etc) and all of the amazing acrobats of the Prince (especially walking on walls) and the music too. I wish if they use one of the soundtracks of
X ray Dog cause it's so epic. I hope we get to see the trailer before the end of this year.

One of my favorite games ever, awesome that it's gonna be a movie.
At first I was a little ehhh on JG, but he has bulked up for the movie and gosh darn you're right, what's with all these men and the muscle gain?
Funny fact: In that picture of JG you have, I heard the makeup people trimmed his chest hair to make it more "organized." Haha.
And yeah the whole no gore thing is a little bummer, but Sands of Time wasn't gory.
I trust Jerry Bruckheimer. Make it good man. Looking forward to this.

Bruckheimer is a big plus for me too. If you’re worried about his ability to turn a video game into a film, think about Pirates! That was only a park ride and he turn THAT into a movie with great action, funny dialogue, suspense, and characters that go down as some of my favorites. I think we’ll see the same magic with Prince of Persia. The cast talent is there and with the addition of parkour fight sequences, the acrobatics should be solid too! Shaping up to be another Bruckheimer gem.

its gonna be interesting. and how come a lot of ppl keep sayin it shld be asian character? prince of persia wasn't asian? i guess it all depends on how Jake portrays his character and such. hope its not like dragonball movie (omg! no comment. it was okie but...) but yeah.

not sure if you saw this or not yet, but this is a trailer that "Jordan Mechner" (the creator of the original game of
Prince of Persia) created to persuade Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney to make a POP movie. He said that he saw the trailer of the movie and
it is awesome
and it looks a bit like the trailer he created from the game:

probably we'll get to see the trailer this December *crossing fingers and toes*

^ so good to know they really wanna make a good movie and working hard for it. Gives me some hope lol
in one of the forums I read, someone said he went and saw the screening and that the movie is
awesome and looks
just like the game and the prince
is doing all of his awesome stuff from the game. He also says it
it doesn't look like a Disney movie at all! (not sure if this is a good or a bad thing!)
anyway, I saw this video and it says that
Johnny Depp turned down the offer of
Bruckheimer to join the movie, so the title role went to
Jake Gyllenhaal!!

not sure if I got it right, but were they really gonna offer the role of the Prince to Johnny? lol

Oh good to hear that the trailer shows a lot of the same intense action as the game. Did you see this
trailer review? They have some pretty promising things to say too -
The film really feels like a revamped version of an Indiana Jones film, only this is set centuries before and also has the benefit of the amazing special effects and cutting-edge technology. It's also quite fitting since Mechner created the first game in 1989 off a heavy influence from the film Raiders Of The Lost Ark. However, fans of that 1989 original should know that the film was based off the more modern Sands of Time game Mechner created, and not the original game. Still, this really does look like a film that could easily spawn a blockbuster franchise and - despite the numerous misgivings many had about the casting of Jake Gylennhaal - it truly does look like he pulls off this Dastan character in wonderful fashion, and they did a nice job in the trailer teasing the chemistry between Dastan and white-hot newcomer Gemma Arterton's Tamina.Great news, right? Looking forward to seeing the footage!
Hmm not so sure about the Depp rumor, but sounds like Gyllenhaal was the perfect choice!

"Have you ever wondered how you could have found such a treasure? The gods have a plan for you. A destiny," we hear the princess saying as short clips of the scenes mentioned above play on the screen.
We then see Gyllenhaal jumping off a cliff and a few seconds later climbing a wall with arrows as his stepping stones. Someone shoots at him and he turns around looking nervous but annoyed as well.
"The sand turns back time," the audience is told a few seconds into the trailer. "Only the holder of the dagger is aware of what's happening."
A quick clip is is shown of the prince holding the dagger and turning into sand.
"Only the dagger can unlock the sands of time. There are those who would use this power to destroy the world," Arterton's character explained. "The only way to stop this Armageddon is to take the dagger to the secret guardian temple."
Although the footage we saw was brief, which made it difficult to see where the story is going, the rivalry and tension between the prince and princess was very clear. Their witty banter was entertaining and well-written.
"You really enjoy telling me what to do don't you?" Gyllenhaal's character sarcastically asks.
"Only because you're so good at following orders," the princess quickly snaps back.
"Don't press your luck. The Sands of Saint, they strike terror into the heart of all they cross," he replies.
"Such a noble prince - leaping to assist the fallen beauty," she says.
"Who said you were a beauty," he laughs.
"There must be some reason why you can't take your eyes off me," she says.
He then tries to say something but begins to stutter, not knowing how to respond to the princess' feisty comebacks.
Next up was a scene showing a wicked force holding a snake.
"The high temple is guarded by some sort of demon," the princess said.
The following scene was the two with a group of people walking. She asks where the dagger is and he tells her, "You're welcome to search me for it. You need to be very thorough."
She looked intrigued by his scandalous offer, but tried to pretend like she was irritated by him.
The final clip in the trailer was the prince fighting off a rather large snake and the mouth of the reptile was open and about to bite him.
