So i'm 19 and i'll be 20 by the time next fall runs around.
I'm thinking of stopping school in the US and starting over in Korea (due to family reasons)
I was supposed to go this past year, but I had to stay in the US for various reasons.
If I go to Korea, i'm going to have to spend about a year in the language program, and since
I was planning on changing majors (and countries lol) I found out only 3 of my classes will transfer.
I'll pretty much have to start over as a freshman.
So my question. Is 21 too old to be a college freshman? Not just in Korea, but in the US because I plan to
eventually come back here. And the major i'm switching to is pretty much a "have to go to grad school or work at mc donalds"
major so is 27-28ish old to be graduating college?

well from what I know, there's a lot of older people nowadays that go for degrees. I mean the worst thing is probably hitting on the opposite sex w/ the age difference and all, but other than that, what they gonna do to you, single you out in any statistic course

don't even worry about it!!
my cousin, who was in a language program for 2 years in Japan, just came back to the states and he is in his late-20s...and he is only NOW starting college. yeah, the majority of people in college may be a lot younger...but it doesn't even matter.
my mom also didn't start college until her early forties...so i think it's never too late.
my major is something that i'll need to have at least a master's degree to do anything with...but i plan on taking some time off after graduation to do volunteer work in either the peace corps or teach for america...so really by the time i get done with grad school...i'll be 26-27 as well (and i started college at 18).

Don't even worry about your age. JUST FINISH SCHOOL! A friend of mine has been putting off school for a few years now, and because it's coming on 4 years since we left high school, he's jealous of all the people graduating. I keep telling him it's not about when you finish, as long as it happens. Don't get discouraged because your credits won't transfer; just make sure you decide on a major you really like this time around and stick it out.

There's no such thing as too old to just be starting college. You start when you are ready to start and not any sooner. Otherwise you are wasting time and money if you aren't ready. Hopefully, being a little bit older, you'll be a little bit more focused on what you really want out of college and not have to spend 6 or 7 years in school drifting from major to major because you just don't know.

No because I see a guy that's probably like 60s (with white hair) in this noobie math class. Kinda normal, and since you're 21, theres no problem with that.

NEVER!
There are lots of people who go to college even later in life. In their 20's, 30's, 40's, etc. Sometimes people need some life experience before they realize what they really want to do.

It's never to late to go to school. At my school, there's plenty of people in their 30's & 40's (& maybe even older) that are back in school. Actually, my dad is planning to go back to school too

Definitely not! A lot of students at my school are international -- it's not uncommon to have a ton of 20 or 21-year-old classmates.

21 is not old. it's actually in a good range; you're still young enough to have a fresh start, but still old enough to be considered for some more opportunities, especially for jobs.
there were people around the age of 50s and 60s in the college near my high school, so i don't think your age will be a problem.

To be honest, you'd probably blend right in.
There's a 35yr old guy in a few of my classes and he's awesome. I always forget his age and I'll think he's my age.
There's a 25-27yr old lady in one of my classes and she's great as well. And I also forget her real age all the time and think she's my age.
Etc., etc., a lot of people transfer or start new majors all the time, so you'll be with a lot of people your age who are freshmen as well.
No worries.

You're not old. In korea guys have to take 2 years out of their life to serve in the army so they're also behind in schooling sometimes.
My friend is 24 and he's a freshman after 2 years of college in korea 2 years in the army and finally going to a Uni now full time. =)

When I was 18 and a freshman, there were two people over 40 in my intro to mandarin class, and they were cool as hell!
I am thinking about starting up college again too, never should have quit, but you live and learn I guess =)

i was 20 when i was a freshman in college. i didn't like the other freshmen as much since a lot of them were a little immature, but i got along with other students pretty great. to be honest, i'm glad i had a little it more direction and knew what i wanted to do by the time i got to college. a lot of people i know ended up not really going to college (i.e. open major) until they're 20 anyway and end up staying until they're 24-25. and as others have said, there are people going to college in their 30s and 40s. you'll be fine.

Nobody is too old to go to college. I personally don't think 21 is too old to start as a freshman. There are many people who decide to go to college even when they're 40 year olds.

i don't understand why people ask these kinds of questions.

and there's like aged 30+ and people with kids in my classes.

And, I actually have a Korean classmate that's 23 years old when he was a freshman. Age doesn't matter in education as long as you get one.

21 isn't special in european standards. people overhere often go to highschool until they're 20 and start college at 21. no biggie.
i know a bunch of people, who decided to go to work after highschool. made some good money and then started college at 26+. why not? it's never too late to start something new

. when i started off as a freshman, i made friends with people in their early 30s.

21 years old is young actually since I know a ton of people who go straight to work after high school. About 3 or 4 years later, they decide to go back to school to work towards their degree. Some people I know were just burnt out from school so they decided to take a break from it by working full time until they felt ready for college.

It is never to start over as a freshman. Heck, I turned twenty-one this year and I am starting all over again becuase I will be going to a new school this year for a completely different program. A lot of people are going back to college/University these days anyway. Most of them used to go back to upgrade themselves, but these days, you will see a lot of older people going back (graduates - middle aged people) because of the recession.

no not at all.
first of all, i have a lot of friends who are from Korea, so they got held back a year while in junior high/ high school. so my roommate was actually 21 as a freshman, and there are a bunch of other koreans like that at my school. Plus... i know some oppa's who went to the army and came back or they plan on going to the army and coming back. that makes them a lot older than the average undergrad student, but honestly it doesn't even matter. If you're older, you'll probably be more focuses on your studies. If you're scared to go into college as a 21 year old, you'll never be able to attend college when you're older. trust me, you won't regret having gone to college while you're still young and you still CAN...

I don't think it is. I go to a community school and see people all the time there of all ages. I once had a religions class with someone who was a mother with teenagers and she was a first time student. It's never too late to go to school if you need to.

Is 21 too old to be a college freshman?
Nah. Like other people mentioned, it's not unusual to see older students in the classroom nowadays anymore. I know this one unnie who is a year older than me but started attending Uni two years after me, and being an older underclassman doesn't bother her.
I think age will only be a personal obstacle if you let it be~ and think of it this way, you already have some college experience under your belt so you can be like.. the perfect froshie x)
