Hey all, so unless you have ignored all the announcements this year, you should know that we are working on some awesomeness for the site. And the relaunch date is nearing! Beta testing will begin with FOS in June and we hope to relaunch in July. So it is right around the corner

To prepare, here is some important housekeeping for the new launch:

1) Make sure the email address you have for your SOOMPI account is CURRENT. All new log-in information will be sent to the email address on file. Under the new system, you will log in using your email address and NOT your user name. If your email address is out of date, you may lose access to your account. So update it!

2) If you have an account on the main site, make sure the email addresses for both accounts is the SAME EMAIL ADDRESS.

3) Account merging between the main site and forums can only happen ONCE. And that is during the relaunch. If your email addresses are not the same and your accounts are not merged, then there is nothing we can do later. You snooze, you lose! So really, get your accounts linked by making sure they have the same email address now.

4) When we relaunch, your forum username will become your universal username for the whole site.

5) Make sure you know your password - a lot of people are permanently logged in the site, so they forget their password. Make sure you know it because you will need to enter it fresh when we relaunch.

FAQs

How do I edit my email address?
in the forum - go to MY CONTROLS, and click on Change Email Address on the Menu (left side). You will have to verify your change so check your email for a message from Soompi for instructions.
in the main site - click on MY PROFILE at the top, click EDIT tab

What if I don't have an account on the main site?
Then it doesn't matter. This is only if you do.

What if my user name is different in the forums and main site?
Thats ok - we just need the email addresses to match. That is how we will know you are the same person!

Will all my old posts be erased?
No, all old content will be kept and will stay in Soompi! So don't worry, be happy!

When I tried to change my email to my main account email, it said:
How am I supposed to give them the same email address if it does this?

Considering I haven't logged in to the main site in forever... I just double checked both and it's all okay. Both main & forum accounts have same e-mail, same username and same password. lol.

It's not letting me change it -__-

it keeps saying this:
Sorry, the email addresses did not match, please go back and check the data you entered.

Can you PM me the email address you are trying to change it to? When that message appears, it is usually because you have a second SOOMPI account in the forums which you registered using that email address.




You may have mistyped it when you had to re-enter the information (it should ask you to enter it twice for security reasons.) You may have typed it incorrectly once - try again and let me know.

During this relaunch, will those accounts be deleted or something?

Ok let me just make double sure. I don't have an account for the main site, only the forum, so does any of this affect me? Do i have to do anything?

What is the error msg you are getting? for 90% of you for whom this is not working, it is because you have TWO forum accounts - one under each email address. So think back and see if you ever registered a second FORUM account using the new email address. If you want, you can PM me the new email address you are trying to change TO and i will check for you.

The accounts will not be deleted, they will just stay dormant and inactive.



if you are only on the forums, then you only have to make sure that the email address associated with your forum account is CURRENT AND UP TO DATE. this will be important for logging into the new system.

ok this might be the dumbest question but how do I delete an account from the main site?

I have an account using my old email and one using my current email on the main site (I forgot I had made one using my old email) however the account using the old email is synced with this soompi forum account (if that makes sense) and I don't know how to change it.

Help please! I would hate to lose my account!

I don't have an account on the main site now. If I am going to make an account after the relaunch, can I still use my forum account to log in. Or do I have to make an account now, so you guys can merge it?

After the relaunch you don't need to make an account to the main site because it works with this one you have in the forums.
At least that's how I understood it ^^"

you just need to make sure the main site account has the same email address as your your forum account. after the relaunch, you will only have 1 username (which will be the one you use here in the forums). we will merge the accounts by matching them via email addresses.



send me a PM with the error message you are getting and the email address you are trying to change it to. usually this problem appears when you have registered a second forum account with the other email address...



That means you have 2 soompi forum accounts - send me a PM with your main email account and I will look up what the second forum account is. if the second forum account is inactive, then I can delete it to free up that email address.



you can click on "My Controls" at the top of the forums and then from there, on the left navigation panel, click on "Change my Email Address" - then you can update your forum email address to your current email address.

Will we be able to change our emails here after the re-launch if we change them in the future or is this a permanantly stuck forever thing after it becomes our log-in names? and 2. My username in the main account is slightly different with the forums- which username will I permanantly be changed to? (I'd like to stay as scribbles* please)

Dude I was freaking out because I updated my email address and didn't receive that confirmation email for like 10 minutes and kept resending the validation thing but ugh thank God it finally went through (freaking lagging man, I swear)

i need help majorly, i had to use my brothers new/old account because my main one wouldnt activate and i cant post for help or anything

someone please tell me why i keep getting 'There are no pending validation requests for that member. Please check the name and try again' or 'Sorry, that member does not have to validate their account. Please double check the data you entered. If this validation isn't recent, it's possible your old account has been removed'

the thing is i updated my email address last night but i realised i mispelt it and there isnt one so i changed it again and i get my ID with the validation password but it keeps coming up like above .. so i thought i'd change the email address again & its coming up the same .. i dont want to lose my account .. & right next to My Controls it says 'resend validation' or something ..

any help?

Please send me an email to support@soompi.com with your username and a more clear explanation of what happened. I cannot tell from your post which is your account or your brother's account, etc.
